I voted that I never check. Not because I don't want to- but because I do not have a card reader. My machine does have a card that I send to the DME for the insurance company. So they call and let me know about my results. If I ever have the funds I would like to get a card reader. I have a feeling that I would be really OCD about it though, which might be a bad thing.

Curious about what results they give you?

I check my readings after I wake up right on the machine - My ResMed S8 Elite II has the option to view the AI, HI, and AHI values right on the LCD for that night. I do have a card reader, and pull the summary data off usually once or twice a month. Unless I am having problems, I normally don't pull the stats daily so I can look at the detailed data.

When I first traded my old CPAP tank for a data capable APAP, I was downloading data every day, even though my numbers were good and I felt fine. Now that I've had the machine for roughly a year, I download and view the data much less frequently, probably about once every two weeks - unless I have a bad night or other reason to want to look sooner.

In my early days I downloaded and checked my numbers weekly, tweaking everything until I got my AHI to 0 - 1. Never have done daily.

Now, my numbers are always steady, and my AHI is never over 1, I have to admit I've slipped to monthly or so - whenever I get time, remember, or .... whatever. If I felt bad during the day I'd probably change this, but so far, no need.

I can be obsessive about some things, but reading everyone else's posts, clearly not this!

I really don't remember when I last downloaded my info myself. They did last week at the ne sleep doctors office. I think I have a couple of reports I took to my family doctor last year but to be honest I would say being as there was 358 days worth of data on the card I could say maybe once a year?
I can't vote there is no catagory for once a year.

I check the LCD display daily, and match that to how I feel.....

I have the software...and I was capturing details every few days for many months.....

I had to start a med that unfortunately totally trashed my sleep....making data misleading in many ways..... so I stopped focusing collecting the details, and just focused on getting sleep.... and making sure I wasn't hitting the top of my range, and that overall my AI number stayed low.... everything I really needed to watch during med transition is on the daily screen, unless the AHI trends high, or the leak is unusual.

At some point I may collect detail daily again....... or maybe only if I have problems.....

right now, I have larger problems that require my attention, so the LCD every morning (or after every sleep session) is the routine for now..... and that is working....

As long as I'm feeling more or less okay I just mail my card off to my DME about every 6 months or so.

Personally I don't see much point to it beyond that. Little blips here and there don't matter to me - it's the long term efficacy that I'm interested in. If my AHI goes up one night but then goes back to normal the next then it's just not worth my attention.

If it goes up consistently than it certainly is but I'll almost assuredly feel it. If for some amazing reason I don't then the 6 month or so checkup certainly will.

I am a newbie, but I have some other illnesses such as Hypothyroid, low Testosterone. I have learned while dealing with hypothyroid disease that the labs are just another gauge. The gauge I use and trust is my symptoms good or bad.
I belong to other forums related to hypothyroid and most of the people are searching for Doctors that treat the symptoms not the lab results. Why I am saying that is that we have a better gauge than the sleep data from the machine, and it is our body. Your body will tell you is something is good or not.

I am not telling you not to keep doing what you are doing, checking the data results from the machine. If you feel better, that is the best, in my case, I am checking the results for now, because I just received my cpap machine and want to know if what I am doing is right.
I am feeling better since day one, and I don't remove the mask not matter what. I always stay with the mask on for all night. Every night is better and better. I found a way to handle it, like tapping my mouth (mouth breather), changing size of the pillow from medium to small so they fit better on my nose.

I retrieve data from my smartcard twice each week, on Mondays and Fridays, to check my numbers. After a few years, I find that the data, AHI . . . are pretty consistent day to day, so I no longer check it daily.

I answered once every other week, but keep in mind that was only after checking daily for many, many months!

Hmmm...I know my machine is hooked up to the phone jack to send in the data to prove I am using it. How does one go about checking the data for themselves given the machine in my profile? Thanks!

Jucs,

Your machine profile shows that you have a Respironics M Series Plus CPAP machine. Your model does not report any helpful therapy data at all. It only reports the hours that you used the machine.

If you want a machine that is capable of reporting full therapy data, you need at least an M Series Pro in the Respironics line of CPAP machines.

What DreamOn said, plus when you get the pro you'll have to get software, a card reader, and learn how to install and use it. If you're serious about being able to read your own data that can all be done.

Jucs was this machine purchased by you or your insurance or is it being rented? How long have you had this machine?

If you haven't had it long, I would suggest talking to your doc to get a machine that is capable of recording data other than hours used. They shouldn't even make those machines any more. Those are just for dme's who want to make money and not worry about the pt.
