kicked ass via long distance

when i woke up at 1:50 pm ( i work 3rd ) i called apria just to see if they were open and they were! so i sent my father out there to raise hell.

unfortunately when he got there 2:30pm they were CLOSED... WTF.

so i called and they said " oooooo, THAT office by YOUR house closes at 2pm, sorry... " GRRRrrrr

anywho, so i figured i'd jsut stay and talk with the apria rep over the phone..

REP: so youre calling about the CPAP machine?
ME: YUP, my dad is giving it back first thing monday morning
REP: oh im sorry, did he not like it?
ME: he received the wrong one.
REP: HUH?! how?

ME: i sent 2 scripts.. 1. states his address/info/pressure/flex/heated humidifier/mask/etc and the other 2.DR dx: script saying RESMED s8 ELITE II W/ Heater HUMIDIFIER etc.

REP: ooo we didnt get the DR dx one, stating the specific machine.
ME: well, if thats the case, you probably just gave him a similar machine, right? ( that meets his script )
REP: yeah, thats what we did.
ME: so you ignored the Flex setting? and gave him a M series basic?
REP: oh.....
REP: we must've overlooked that, sorry
ME: look, im not out to step on peoples toes, but the reality is my dad is going to have to deal with your DME company for a long time... and we're already off on the wrong foot.
REP: im sorry, etc etc

then i was also understanding, i mean, its not HER fault... so in the end, she said to have my dad bring his DR. script to his local DME and they should exchange it first thing monday morning after reading the notes she left on his file...

...HOWEVER... we'll see

Well now two things could happen. They will now keep an eye on your dad and make sure to cross their t's and dot their i's and be his new best friend or they will be nasty to him from here on out.

Talk to him each time he deals with them and see how they are treating him. If they aren't his new best freind they should be and you will need to call them again. Was the person you talked to a supervisor? If not I would find out who the supervisor there is and contact them.

But for now just wait and see and hopefully all goes well.

Tick tick tick tick. Time just ticks away waiting.
Once this is over you should let others in your profession know what happened. You have a unique situation and can see things from both sides. I am sure you can understand how a few bad apples tarnished the whole bushel full.

I know their are excellent DME's out there. I am lucky to have one of them. But it is like anything else it will take hundreds to fix what one did wrong.

Hope this all ends well.

In dealing with service providers of all types, I have thought about making a business card that says something the effect '(Name) Member, Society of Consumer Fraud Prevention'. Underneath it would list things like 'Auto repair fraud', 'Home Improvement fraud', 'Financial services fraud', 'Medical services fraud', etc. Put your phone number(s) on it. Hand it to a service provider when they ask for contact information. I bet you will get better service and an honest price.

okay, well Monday came around ( when they opened... and before i could even call my dad to remind him to exchange the machine.... a Apria customer service manager located in another state called me...

Rep: HEY! its me again, we spoke the other week?
Me: hey how are you.
REP: i called the apria dme in which you stated the wrong machine was sent... they have the Resmed Elite II watiing for you now
me: GREAT thank you, etc etc etc
rep: you are very welcome!

i send my dad there.... and GUESS WHAT.... the tried to shove him the S8 escape II "sir, its the SAME THING"... dad showed them script, told them to follow the order... and that esape =/= elite II... then the people at the DME said ... " well we dont have the ELite II in stock... we have to order.... so they did.

i was livid at this point, i called the manager and was like WTF MAN....
well, actually i was nice... but you could tell i was clearly annoyed.

she apologized for the mix up... and said this THURSDAY they get the elite II in stock, and she'll call and verify before sending my dad out there.

Amazing. Incompetence abounds.

As I've said before, it's a good thing your father has you going to bat (I hope not literally!! ) for him, onesight1.
