don't see anything in their literature about kinds of machines they will cover - some insurance will only pay enough to cover the bottom of the line ones -- some insurance will have it spelled out you need to fail cpap to get an apap and more - nasty stuff but it is there - the literature online about this company and apnea is minimal - they do want split studies ---- so they want to save a buck and bet they didn't give apria enough to pay for a better machine ------

Your father should call his insurance company and ask what local DME CPAP providers they are contracted with. Hopefully he will have the option of more than just Apria.

If he does, tell him to take ALL of the equipment back - and he MUST do so w/in the first 30 days - plus a copy of his equipment order (script) and INSIST that they exchange this current basic Respironics device w/the scripted Resmed S8 Elite II w/EPR as scripted.

In fact, get him a copy of a new script and change that C-Flex 2 to EPR 2.

Good luck!

We all DEFINITELY wish you and your dad GOOD LUCK! If you have no luck w/the first person you talk to, climb the ladder and ask to speak to the manager. IF still no luck then contact the district manager. There are one or two people in this forum who climbed the Apria corporate ladder and got satisfactory results. The difficult part is that it is you and not your father who is trying to get this straightened out. You just might have to get his POA for just this matter.

Like most other forum members trying to utilize Apria, they were a complete failure for me as well. I recommend you first return all their equipment as they have little reason to satisfy you while you have the gear. You are more likely to get the desired gear without overpaying through online sources. I found a complete system with less than 20 hours for less than my deductible on the crap Apria tried to palm off. There are many of these things sitting in closets by the non-compliant users who never visited these forums. You may not be as lucky but when you realize how much Apria is overcharging for discontinued and obsolete equipment, you will find an alternative. Apria is primarily a Respironics supplier so if you insist on using them as your supplier I would recommend you rewrite the script for an M-series auto. Thanks for sharing your Apria experience and for being a good son.

I figured since you were the Resp person who did the titration and worked for his doc they would talk to since you are the one handling the case. However being that you are also family this crazy Hiipa thing rears it's head. Get the paperwork signed from your dad and then call them. Get it straightened out before they say Oh sorry you waited too long.

Great advice by everyone!

I'd definitely hold out for the ResMed S8 Elite II (be sure it has "II" tacked onto the name -- the "II" is extremely quiet.)

Since your father lives far away from you, the ResMed machine will be much handier for the purpose of you finding out how he's doing once he starts therapy.

You're absolutely right about how easy it is to see AHI, AI, HI, and that all important Leak info on the LCD of a ResMed machine. No software needed for that; and for my money, the info on a ResMed machine is really all a person needs to know about what's going on. Short of a full PSG, of course!

Your father can check that in the mornings and let you know the numbers.

You've done a wonderful thing for your father! Good luck!!

Good point Gerry - I had not considered that.

I can see this being approached several different ways.
1. A healthcare worker (pt. just happens to have the same name?)

2. You sound like him on the phone? How would they know?

3. An authorized family member.

ALL come to mind now.

I have heard of people getting Apria to come around but it takes a make/model specific script which leaves NO wiggle room.

I attended a support group meeting during the spring where the Apria rep insisted they were now using only data capable machines now because it was more cost effective. I guess this office didn't get that memo?

its 0398hrs eastern time, and i just found out Apria is OPEN TODAY until 5pm.

i called my dad and he is actually on his way there right NOW.

he really doesnt know much if the start throwing technical questions at him...

however i told him to simply say " i have severe OSA, my doctor prescribed me a specific machine and you told me this wasnt going to be a problem. Now i want my specific machine requested , the RESMED s8 E-II" and if they throw him shit like, " well its the same, its cheaper for you blah blah" he can say " then he will call me and ill talk via phone.

wish me luck
