Will not get swine flu shot as I currently have swine flu. Did get a seasonal flu shot, though. Yes, I consider it a chronic condition.

So what is your doctor's explanantion for the bronchitis?
Likely activation of the brain's microglial cells (major inflammatories), Blaylock discusses the phenomena of getting sick following a vaccine...due to cytokine storms (yes, industry jargon, sorry that's what it's known as). Then, there's the reaction to the toxic output of some viruses, so if you get both you get really, really sick. I've had 3 flu shots and I got horribly sick following all 3; I no longer get flu shots. When I read about the immune system affects of vitamin D, this neurohormon is mis-labled as a vitamin, and flound out just how low my levels were, it explained at leas to me why I caught everything. Now that my D levels are just into normal and my daily supplement is at least what the Vitamin D Council recommends I haven't caught any of the illnesses going around. I plan to increase as we move into cooler weather depending on the results of my next labs.

Interesting take on "chronic". The standard accepted definition is a condition that is long term, which apnea certainly is.

In my mind chronic implies 24/7. I have arthritis, I have it 24/7. It is a chronic condition.

I only stop breathing when I sleep and then only sometimes, so not 24/7 and thus doesn't meet my own personal requirement for "chronic".

Well, I have always been sort of a rogue. Each to their own. Someone asked me to explain why I said "no" so I did.

I prefer not to view OSA as a chronic condition. It is a mind thing for me. It helps me keep a positive attitude about things.

I don't know from storms...and the viral bronc is not immediately following the vaccination. It can be a month later before seems to start......

I was quite sick in early 1990 with some viral thing...docs prohibited work, told us we were sicker than we felt and we needed to stay home, in bed, take it easy, fluids, whole TLC thing. I thought I was just losing my voice.... I remember going back to work one day early....and I only lasted 45 minutes......

I didn't start getting flu shot until around 1993 or so..... got them to be around a sick elder fighting lymphoma.... Was the only reason I got the shot.

The vaccination occupies my immune system with work to do....... this gives the viral already resident there pretty free reign to go wild....and apparently that is just what happens. When I don't get a flu shot, I don't have a bout.....

Doc finds my reporting credible, and agrees that doing what keeps me healthy is best.... given my history, that means no seasonal flu shot for me.....

Been following this thread trying to decide for sure if I'll take the new vaccine. Have had flu and pneumonia vaccines the last several years, due to interstitial lung disease making me high risk. Can't remember last time I had a bout with the flu. Still thinking I'll take the shot - will talk to my doc about it.

A couple of observations -

-Surprised no one mentioned the airway congestion that often comes with the flu and the concomitant difficulty of dealing with that congestion and using CPAP. IMO, flu is much more difficult for CPAP patients.

-According to our local paper, the first vaccines available will be the mist type containing live virus. That one I will pass on and wait for the shot with only dead virus.

Do you consider sleep apnea alone to be a chronic medical condition?

For the H1N1 strain, the NFID recommended the following patient populations be vaccinated:

•People 6 months to 24 years old
•Pregnant women
•Healthcare personnel
•Adults 25 to 64 years old with chronic medical conditions
•People in close contact with infants younger than 6 months
No, to the swine flu vaccine (even if it was available ), and Yes to the chronic medical condition. I consider it a chronic condition because it's something I need to treat every night, probably for the rest of my life.

No to the swine flu (and regular flu) vaccines because I'm not at any real risk, considering where I live and who I encounter on a regular basis. (I'm also skeptical and cynical re: the U.S. healthcare system, Big Pharma's profit-driven role in it, and the fear-mongering that takes place. But that's another issue.)

Most all of us suffer lousy sleep while we're sick, whether we have OSA or not. I lived through nasty illnesses before I was diagnosed, and I'll manage to get through again if need be, whether or not I'm able to use my machine. Hopefully, I won't get sick, but I'll take my (limited) chances.
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy. ;))

1. Yes
2. No

And for the record I don't consider sleep apnea a disability either.

AKCPAPGUY
I had dinner with a guy yesterday who refuses to treat his sleep apnea. I have known him for 25 years and believe me, he is slowly slipping into disability. His paperwork will probably say, "Disabled from heart disease or stroke or dementia." It should say, "Disabled due to refusal to use CPAP".

No way - not unless forced to by my employer or the borg govt (the collective).
And then if forced, I'll do everything possible to reduce the possibilities of an immunotoxic response.

I'll choose a few days in bed with a fever anytime over being paralyzed or killed by Guillain–Barré.
If you still think that the swine flu vaccine is the greatest thing since sliced bread, you might want to watch the 60 minutes program on Swine flu that is archived on Youtube.

No - I consider a chronic condition is one that has chronic (uncured) symptoms. My SDB is completely cured by my CPAP therapy.
