Can you say anti-bodies? having the "Swine Flu", should give you much better protection against the "Swine Flu", unless you think the added Mercury will kill the virus, better that it kills brain cells. Jim That's why the older population has less trouble with the "Swine Flu", most of us have lived through it one or more times.
I must have missed the natural exposure given the ugly toll this flu is taking on me. Day 10 and 8.5 missed work days, questioning if there is an end in sight. I'll do the dance with the mercy scare as a precaution even though the vaccine could be an overkill. My risk factors for contined exposure are very high, my risk of exposing other high risk groups is very high, the fact I've already been nailed harshly this flu season and it's still October, and finally when the vaccine is available I'll be required to get it at work, I'll comply. Thus far, I've nevered experienced adverse reactions to flu vaccines, but I seem progressively more ill each of the few times I've had a flu virus.

It was easier to find the Swine Flu first before the vaccine

Now, I don't need one, even if I could get it. You know the expression, 'a watched Chicken egg never hatches'

Thanks Federal Govt!!

I have not been able to get a clear answer from the health department as to whether or not OSA is considered to be a chronic health condition in relation to the vaccine priority list, but in researching links between OSA and H1N1, I have found at least two cases of serious complications. One of the original cases of H1N1 hospitalizations profiled by the CDC and described on their web site was a 32 year old with OSA as an underlying condition who wound up hospitalized and on a ventilator. Another case that comes up is a death due to H1N1 where OSA was listed as a contributing factor. I think I am going to go with the shot.

When I went to my doctor last week I mentioned H1N1 vaccination and I was surprised when he told me that I don't need one. I am in my 50's and he says that I am not at risk for complications from H1N1. I work in IT for an assisted living company and from what I understand, my employer has a priority for H1N1 vaccine.

Would you not expect your employer wants employees to have the vaccine to reduce the chance of carrying the virus into the assisted living facility?

Me too. While there is presently a prioritization in effect for the distribution of H1N1 vaccine, CDC doesn't say you don't need it, but if your area has a limited supply, that you may have to wait:
Initial Target Groups Are:
When vaccine is first available, ACIP recommends that programs and providers administer vaccine to people in the following five target groups (order of target groups does not indicate priority):

•pregnant women,
•people who live with or provide care for infants younger than 6 months (e.g., parents, siblings, and day care providers),
•health care and emergency medical services personnel,
•people 6 months through 24 years of age, and,
•people 25 years through 64 years of age who have certain medical conditions that put them at higher risk for influenza-related complications.

No shortage of 2009 H1N1 vaccine is expected, but vaccine availability and demand can be unpredictable and initially the vaccine may be available in limited quantities. Because the amount of vaccine available at first will be small, the ACIP also made recommendations regarding which people within the groups listed above should be prioritized if the vaccine is initially available in extremely limited quantities. For more information see the ACIP recommendations on the Use of Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine at http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtm ... 0821a1.htm

Once the demand for vaccine for the target groups has been met at the local level, ACIP recommends that programs and providers begin vaccinating everyone from the ages of 25 through 64 years. Current studies indicate that the risk for infection among persons 65 and older is less than the risk for younger age groups. However, once vaccine demand among younger age groups has been met, ACIP recommends that programs and providers should offer vaccination to people 65 or older.

The ACIP has issued separate recommendations on who should get the 2009-10 seasonal vaccine.

Have you been able to get the vaccine, if not is there any promise for you to get it soon???

I had my regular flu shot at Costco® 2 weeks ago. I have not been able to get the Swine Flu shot yet. I cannot have the FluMist (we tranny-planters aren't supposed to do that). I hear they are having the first H1N1 clnics on November 9th, however I'll be out of town until the 10th. ARGH.

Still waiting for the swine flu shot. Had the regualr flu shot about two weeks ago. At work, a university, we have a staff clinic that said that they should get the swine flu shot by the end of Oct. I told them that I need it before Nov 15th as I am going on a cruise to Mexico. The nurse said that they would put me on the priority list along with my boss who has asthma. It is getting too close to the cruise and have not heard back yet. I did bump into the nurse about a week ago and she said that they had receive 200 vacines but had to give it to nursing students etc. It looks like I will have to take my chances on my cruise to Mexico. At work we have a lot of sick people, it appears that some have a throwing up bug, others seasonal coughs etc. I am trying my best to stay away from sick people as I am also dealing with a chest cough. My doctor gave me a Z-Pack which is not helping.

I was in the hospital ER last Monday for kidney stones and I noticed that "Tier 1" personnel are getting H1N1 immunizations right now (it was on the computer screen saver banner). There was somebody in the entry of the ER who was giving masks to people with signs of having a URI.

Even though I work for a senior living provider, I am a headquarters IT geek and do not have any contact with residents or even with people who have contact with residents. I do not plan on taking an H1N1 vaccination, even though I get the annual flu shots every year -- I do not feel that I am at risk even if I do contract it.

I got the H1N1 vaccine yesterday. Interestingly, having OSA was not on the checklist to make me a priority, but the fact that I have skin cancer was enough for me to be considered eligible. Go figure!

1. No, maybe, no, maybe, no...In other words, I can't make up my mind, although I'm leaning heavily to "no." I don't have anything that would put me in a high-risk category; I work from home, only occasionally having to go to a client's office; don't have kids at home. Been washing my hands a lot and carry antibiotic wipes in the car! I haven't had the flu or flu shot in probably ten years. My son (who hadn't gone away to college yet) had the flu a few years ago, and I never go it. I did get a flu shot each year when I was working for someone else, but that was eons ago.

2. Probably a chronic condition, as it's ongoing.

Jay Leno had a great video last night from some local TV station's news features department. They are asking people on the street whether they plan to get the H1N1 vaccine. Leno shows one young lady saying, "No. I won't get it because there are too many questions about its safety. But I am going to have my daughter vaccinated."

That cracked eveyone up!

132 posts and then finally Science drops in with the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

(But Leno was funnier.)
