Had a nice bottle of Syrah with dinner tonight (and some help from the wife). Will report in the morning. LOL

I worked in Alcohol and Drug treatment/rehab for 10 years and alcohol is defeintely a depressant- unless in the very recent past it has been reclassified- if I find out anything different- or anyone does, please post. It usually bothers sleep in that initially it makes one sleepy but a few hours later it can cause interruptions in the sleep pattern, and can cause the person to awaken- maybe that is where she got the "stimulant' thing from. I am very interested to know. Thanks

Alcohol is sometimes referred to as a stimulant because it depresses the inhibitions, and consequently some drinkers do things they would not do otherwise- hence the supposition that it is a stimulant. It is, in fact, a central nervous system depressant.
Red wine, and other alcoholic drinks, also contains congeners, which can seriously exacerbate the effects of the alcohol; think very bad hangover - then multiply by 10, and include the whole body, not just the head. However, different congeners affect different drinkers in different ways, as does alcohol itself. You may be lucky, or not. The one's that are not will certainly know it.
Can these congeners affect throat tissue - is not a question often asked.
It is also the most dangerous drug that we have on the planet, in terms of the effect it's use has on society.
