Hybrid is awesome !! Positive feedback

Post by Spirit » Tue Aug 25, 2009 12:33 pm

I recieved the hybrid from a super special friend yesturday. Ding dong me, tried to put the cusion over the plastic for half an hour, before I watched the software video, Oh it goes into the groove, Lol !!!! But I adjusted the mask a few hours before bed, simulating sleep, turning on the cpap, tossing turning, and made all my adjustments.

The mask is very comfortable, thought it would be a pain after using Swift nasal pillows. With proper adjustment, didn't hardly know it was on.

Slept solid through the night, no waking for adjustments. Woke up today with 0.0 leaks !!!! AHI: 4.3, AI: 0.0 & Hi: 4.3, mouth was not dried out, and I had a dream !!!! I rarely dreamed in years. All I ever remember was going to sleep and waking up.

But the best part of it all, no mouth taping !!!! The hybrid kept my mouth closed. I did awaken with sore nostrils, but didn't last long.

I would like to thank everyone, for all thier tremendous support, since I began my journey, and a special thank you to my dearest special friend Pugsy, whom has been by my side ever step of the way.

I'm real excited about using the hybrid a few more nights, I can already feel the difference, upon waking.

For those with severe allergy issues like myself, the hybrid is the way to go. I forced myself to mouth breathe, due to severe nasal congestion, sometimes ripping the tape off my mouth, and 2 nights ripping the Swift LT off, when I couldn't breathe through my nose.

Just thought I'd share.

I'm glad the new mask is working -- I think it's a great mask, esp for us ex-pillow wearers. now, maybe your xPAP therapy will have a good chance of really working for you!

Another hybrid mask convert.....!

I sure do like mine. Simple design, few parts, easy to clean, and leaks are easy to manage.

How are people managing leaks with the hybrid? I like it much more than my Swift LT, but I'm still having leak issues.

Using the right size oral cushion? Rooster has a whole thread on fitting this mask...might try searching.

It...only came with one? I got the large mask. Or did you mean the nasal pillows?

Sorry! I just noticed, you have the ResMed Liberty not the RespCare Hybrid...they are both hybrid style masks. The Hybrid comes wtih 3 sizes of oral cushions and 3 sizes of pillows; the Liberty does not. Maybe someone with a Liberty will mention how they manage leaks in that area.

I have tried the Liberty but could control the leaks with the pillows despite trying different sizes. They would slide back and forth throughout the night creating leaks. I don't have this problem with the Swift LT which lock in very well. The surface of the pillow for the Swift seems to be more textured than with the Liberty. I suspect the smooth surface was behind the sliding back and forth and leaks.

How does the surface the Hybrid pillows compare to the Swift?

Good for you Spirit! You took to the Hybrid mask quickly. It is an ingenious design.

For those with problems, here is my guide to using the Hybrid: viewtopic.php?t=14422&highlight=

de lure of de mask indeed. I am on my second Mirage Liberty as the top clip holders on my first one broke which was just as well as it was a large i had got online. Much to my wife's surprise after visiting the DME and using the resmed sizing guide I found out I'm a size small

So after one night with the correct size i am on 0.14 leak rate which is not good, AHI of 13 ewwww

I find it hard to figure out where it is leaking due to the way the exhale port diffuse all the air everywhere. Roosters fitting guide says to put your fingers over the ports to block them and then try and find the leaks but i tried that 2 or 3 times last night and could not block the ports. Oh well better luck tonight maybe.

As for the pillow sizes i assume as I used medium Swift LT pillows then I use medium pillows on the Mirage

de lure of the mask continues as i have the Innomed Hybrid on order too

My fitting guide is for the Hybrid mask not the Liberty mask.

Once you have the Hybrid maybe you can post a detailed critique and comparison to the Liberty.

Hi Rooster,
Thanks !!! Worked like a charm. I read your guide, very informative, prior to mask adjustments etc.... Also watched the video 3 times, Lol !!! I think what helped alot was simulating sleep, and adjusting the mask prior to actually going to sleep. I did have leaks at first, pillows kept popping out of nose, etc...... But spent a great deal of time adjusting the mask, it's worth the effort. I do not advise adjusting prior to bedtime, but a few hours ahead, lay down with mask, toss/turn as much as possible, leaks will occur and can be corrected. Also I didn't ramp up, I tested using actual pressure.

Good luck to everyone !!!
