Pugsy,
I didn't read this entire thread, only the 1st and last page. So if this was said before, please forgive.
Concerning the ultram preventing you from sleeping... I suffer from chronic pain as well, primarily from fibromyalgia. I also take ultram & can't sleep if I take it after about 3pm. There is an extended release version of ultram, Ultram ER, that comes in 100mg, 200mg & 300mg. Because it releases small amounts throughout a 24 hour period, it does not affect my sleep. I take the 100mg everyday no matter what. It has helped with night time pain and allowed me to wake up with a significantly lower level of pain first thing in the morning. Most days, the Ultram ER is all I need. Other days when pain is more severe, I can also take the immediate release Ultram in addition to the ER.
Concerning acupuncture... Before acupuncture, I was taking the 200mg Ultram ER everyday plus additional ultram 3 or 4 days a week. While I am not pain free, my pain has been greatly reduced. Some of the needles hurt a little bit (only briefly) when inserted, but most of them are painless. The painful ones vary from treatment to treatment and seem to correlate with whatever part of me is most sore/aggravated at the time. Additionally, I get my best, most restful & restorative sleep in the 5 to 7 days following a treatment.

DoriC,
The first topper in Pugsy's list of links is the one I bought. I just finished making my bed with the topper and I'll be glad to let you know tomorrow about my first night's sleep on it. I decided on the latex rather than the memory foam mostly because of the odor/toxin issue. Latex is natural rather than synthetic, so even if it does have a slight odor, it wouldn't be toxic. When I unpacked the topper today, it had a very faint smell, but it wasn't offensive. I spread it over the sofa to air a while and left to do some errands. When I got back, I couldn't smell anything. If you decide on latex for your hubby, just be sure he isn't allergic to latex. Some people are. More tomorrow! Must stop . . . I'm very weary!

Re: First F/U with dr after cpap start was today
Dori,
I was concerned about the reported odor of the memory foam. I unpacked the 2" around 6 PM last night. Spread it out. There was a faint chemical odor. It lessened considerably by the time I made the bed around 9:30 PM. I did not notice it while I slept. I just checked the 2" and the odor is all gone now a little over 24 hours after unpacking.
The 4" has the same odor. Not any stronger than the 2" was. It has already dissipated quite a bit from when I unpacked it around 2 PM today. I do not anticipate it being any problem for me tonight at all. This is a basement bedroom. No windows. I have a fan to move the air around. The room never did smell like the topper. I had to stick my nose on the topper to smell it.
Bear in mind that I am also someone who isn't bothered by the blue lights on my machine because I can't see them with my eyes shut. I also think my machine is quiet... I do not seem to be overly sensitive to odors. I never notice mask odors either. So take all that into consideration when I offer my comments..
We (wearyone and I) will start a new thread about what we find after we get a chance to actually test the toppers out. That way it won't get lost at the tail end of this thread and might help someone else considering this sort of purchase.

To magentapolkadots: Thank you for telling me about Ultram ER. I will ask my doc about this when I see him again. I find that sometimes the plain Ultram doesn't quite do the trick and if I take another one too soon it makes me very sick to my stomach.
