Hi again Muse-inc,

I started in January of this year, I was so fortunate, I found cpaptalk.com that very day. I give credit for my continuance to the Cpaptalk.com vets who encouraged me the first couple of months. It felt like I was encircled with friends who wanted me to succeed. How do you let people like that down. You can't.

I had to stop for about 10 days, twice. I was on a pillows mask, and developed raw places in my nares that would not heal. The Doc sd, I had to give it a rest. The nares have the sore places again, and I had to miss last night, and I missed it.
I really did. It seemed like I was a little girl goin' to bed without my teddy, or something like that.

Sometime I'd like to chat with you about all your medical problems. I read about them, and can't recall where I read about it. You had a terrible time.

Jan

Jan, That's why everyone needs at least 1 fullface mask that they can get to work for them. Xpap has made such a difference for me that a night off will never be an option! When I have congestion I switch to UMFF, not as comfortable for me, but I still sleep well and get low AHI.

Ayr gel will help the nares. Some here use lanolin to help.

by "compliant" do you mean 100% successful or 100% effort? I'm not 100% successful, but I'm working on it very hard, so I put <100% successful....

1yr/1mth/8days
100% compliant
100% successful

Compliant a little over 1000 nights.....missed only (1) night....because I screwed up and left my humidifier tank at home when I went on an overnight trip. I also screwed up because I didn't have the little adapter with me that would have allowed me to hook the hose directly to the blower (bypassing the humidifier). I was "dumb-squared".

I wondered too about the intention of the "compliant" question.

And why just 100%? Perfection is a pretty tough standard to live by.....

I'm 96.12% compliant.... 15 total missed days due to power outage and conflicting medical issues, not resolve nor commitment.......

I struggle with other sleep issues, and at times still find I have dropped off into an unplanned nap with no mask....and boy do I feel that later. I am usually upright in a chair asleep, not reclining nor in a recliner. Often, I am online and my hands are on the keyboard!! Again, I did not plan nor chose to not comply with therapy.....

I now own a 12v DC Converter, and will soon have a battery....

I continue to work on the other sleep issues with my doc, hopefully addressing my other "unmasked events".

I agree with this! I usually use the Simplicity which is the most comfortable mask for me, but I have a Quattro full face mask for back up on those nights I just can't get my nose congestion to clear enough to use the Simplicity. Although not very comfortable (IMO) the Quattro is much better than sleeping without my CPAP.

A better way to ask is how many people tried and quit all together. That answer is roughly 50%. I have variable success: sometimes the machine is with me and sometimes against me.

Not a very useful poll since those who gave up probably don't hang out at this site anymore.

Anyway, almost 3 months and still compliant.

I started April 13 and haven't missed a night. I even nap with my PAP -- something I would never have known to do had I not found this forum BEFORE starting therapy. You guys have helped me so much! I adapted very quickly to CPAP, and it was because of all the wonderful advice I read on this forum!

My second treatment encounter for OSA began December 22, 2008. In January I suspect I might have encountered the salmonella bug...horrific GI distress that intensified at night.......I missed one night of the 4 hour compliance rule by 6 minutes!!!!! My data documents my terrible GI experience...I know every time I was up to hug Tidy Bowl, the time I left for the emergency room, clinic visits for fluids, and all the attempted naps of that week.......So, in my mind, I am really 100% compliant, but according to data I'm 99%.

Five years ago, my compliance was pooh-poohed upon resulting in a sleep clinic self fulling prophecy of patient failure. I wrote about that on another compliance thread.

Yeah, I wouldn't consider being sick a non-compliance time. I had the norovirus last year and did miss half a night with the CPAP because I was throwing up too much.

How true. I know I've had better luck when asking others about themselves to offer things about me first, then ask my questions. Really!
