Everything for the ACS-38 is on default settings, as it installs. You don't need to change anything in the device driver configuration.

It is no different electronically, so don't bother. I have both, and they either both work, or on the few occasions when I have had trouble (with the WiFi driver issue on some laptops) they both don't work.
Cheers,
Bill

Sometimes I'll do an sfc/scannow(C:\in the command prompt) with the O/S disk in a drive bay.
Rebuild the system files.Reboot and take a look.
Alternately,I'll do a chkdsk C: /f /r from the Command Line Interface or the Local Disk C:\ Properties-Tools window.
Check the disk for surface errors. You just never know until you try.

Do you have access to another PC you could install ResScan on just to make sure the card reader works?

That is my next plan. I tried my vista32 laptop (with Resscan) and another computer with WINXP but the dreaded service pack 3 (merely tried to install the reader on that one) Same problems.. I plan to look for my mothballed laptop that has XP service pack 2 on it (or can be restored to service pack 1). also: no bluetooth, removable wireless card.
The other option is to consider that the reader might be bad.
I suppose I could make my vista32 computer boot with no bluetooth or wireless /just the bare basics and try that.
I already uninstalled and reinstalled. I am reluctant to dig into the registry to pull out the acr38 related key which seems to involve VID_072F.
annoying!

Has anyone had the experience of trying a generic ACR38, it not working, and then getting an official Resmed reader and having it work? Bill Bolton, who obviously knows quite a lot, says that this shouldn't happen. I am beyond stumped.
Either securetech has sent me two faulty readers or something is off. I do wish I had a standard credit card size card with a smart chip to test. I've tried the reader on several PCs including an ancient HP laptop with just vanilla xp service pack 1 (reinstalled from the supplied disk) and no built in wireless card.
Sliding in the card with 18mm and 14 mm guides I get rapidly flashing green light (also slightly more to the left) and the quicksacn utility shows a card present but not responding to a reset. The same card works at my doctors. There are not keen to have me connect my reader to their computer nor to disconnect their reader from their computer and connect it to my laptop.
I've installed, uninstalled and I am just at a total loss.

Just yesterday I was able to get my card reader to work on my Vista computer. Until yesterday, I had to use the card reader on my XP laptop. In the Resmed/Rescan/Drivers folder in my Start/Programs menu, there is the Rescan USB adapter that I installed yesterday. I don't remember seeing that before but if it was there I would have installed it. It just would not work with my Vista computer no matter what I did until yesterday.
Hope you can get yours to work for you.

IT WORKED! I am stunned. I was sure that the USB adapter related to the optional ribbon cable which connects the machine directly to a PC. But I tried installing it anyway.
When I used the quickscan utility from ACS (the manufacturer) It reported as usual: card present --- not responding to reset
For the heck of it I started the resscan software and (for the first time) it worked .. this without my touching the card which was inserted from before. Only one day detailed data but much to look at.
After shutting resscan I ran quickview again and this time it reported success.
Did I miss some instruction to install the USB adapter driver? And why did it matter to the quickscan utility? Record this someplace to help the next befuddled user.
A million thanks.

Thanks. I'm glad that worked for you. I would think that the USB adapter drivers is for the direct machine to computer option. I tried it anyway but no luck.
Hey, you may be right...but I tried that anyway and I am using the card reader. I don't have the correct connector to do the machine to computer connection. But my card reader connects to my USB drive so that is why I clicked to install the driver. I really do not know what made it work this time. It is my card reader that never worked on my Vista before...and I have owned it for maybe 5 months or so.

I'm so glad I could help you. I just got mine to work with my Vista yesterday, after all these months of trying. Maybe fate allowed me to fix mine just so I could help you fix yours. I read directions diligently...and could not figure how to make it work from the directions. I'll put some helpful tags in the tag area for this post so that if someone else is searching for an answer then they will be able to pull up this post.
