ResScan does not find the reader if there is no card in it.

Mathman,

I have Vista 64, the same machine you have, and ResScan 3.7 with the card reader.
After days of agony trying to get the USB cable to work I gave up and went to the card reader.
I reinstalled ResScan 3.7 and let it do its thing finding the card reader. Worked great the first time.

I am upset that the card only holds three days of Detailed Data (that's why I wanted the cable).

I feel your pain,

I'll try it. So what exact sequence? is it:
1) uninstall resscan
2) uninstall drivers for acr38
3) reboot for good luck
4) reinstall resscan 3.7
4.5) start Resscan
5) attach reader (with or w/o card?) and wait for the program to pick it up

I am truly stumped. So your working ACR38 reacts just like mine until it gets to the step
Calling SCardConnect...ACS ACR38U 0
Success!

whereas I get
Calling SCardConnect...ACS ACR38U 0
The smart card is not responding to a reset.

and then I don't get any of the last few lines. I checked the card at my MDs office on his official Resmed reader and it did work.

When you go to smart card reader in the device manager do you see 4 tabs? On the tab for reader what are the card type and voltage settings?

I just do not know what else to try. I am almost tempted to pay for a official reader but I don't see why that should work if this does not. The one at my MD's office says (of course) ACR38U on the bottom plate. Mine just says ACR38 but in the quickview utility it certainly looks right.

Has anyone had no luck with a standard ACR38 reader and then tried a Resmed reader and had it work fine?

I suppose I could try to dig up another smart card. It is a new reader but maybe it is defective???

I could see if making a guide helps. could the card not be pressed against the contacts hard enough?

Any ideas?

many thanks.

Are you sure that you have the narrow ResMed data card aligned properly in the full-width ACR 38 slot?

Unless I have it in just right the quickview program says

ACS ACR 38U 0 is present in the system
No card is detected on reader

If I slide the card in carefuly then the flashing light stays on for a while before going back to flashing and the quickview program says

ACS ACR38U 0 is present in the system
Card is detected on reader

but in the log it produces it says: The smart card is not responding to a reset.

I will try making a guide and see if that helps.

True,if you do not have the ResScan Data Card Reader, you must reasearch how to make a proper smart card guide.

Lots of threads on here explain how it might be done.

I plugged in my reader and started device manager. In properties, Reader Tab, Card Type is set to MCU (T=0/T=1); Card Voltage is set to Auto Detect; SFDT is checked.

And a number of people say they don't need a guide. BUT I carefully cut out 14mm and 18mm strips from an old card. The left over central piece exactly matches the Rescan card. With guides the Resscan card slides in and is immediately detected as present. Unfortunately I still get the The smart card is not responding to a reset message.

I'm grasping at straws here but I notice that the quickview says
Physical Memory Total: 2,147,483,647 Byte
Physical Memory Free: 2,147,483,647 Bytes
Virtual Memory Free: 2,066,034,688 Bytes

When in fact the installed memory is 4G
of which 3.25G is actually usable (32 bit Vista..)
and 1.6G is free

doubt that this is relevant but at this stage..????

At this point are you using the driver disributed on the ResScan CD or the latest download from http://www.acs.com.hk?

I'd try the latest download if you're not using it.

I've tried both. The CD has 1.1.5.9 and the latest version is 1.1.6.0
