Yes, our stories are sagas, aren't they? That's sad. But we're on the road to a better future, thanks to the good fortune of finding wonderfully competent sleep doctors. I feel very fortunate, and I'm sure Marilyn and Jan do, too. Everyone should be so lucky!

And yes, I hope to one day be able to "pay it forward" to newbies (or others like me, who are new to the forum but not new to sleep disorders). Every day that I read posts here, I gain more knowledge about my own condition and that of others. I'll never have the expertise or education of Muffy or -SWS, nor the experience and knowledge of Rested Gal or Ozij or Den (or any number of others who've been dealing with this condition much longer than I have), but I'll offer whatever help I can, whether it stems from my own similar experience or is simply a message of encouragement.

Thanks! That's exactly how I do feel, Slinky! If I'd known then what I know now, I'd have searched for this kind of doctor at the very beginning of my CPAP journey. Live and learn. (And soon, I'll really sleep!!!)

Yup. As -SWS said I'd say... Ya found a "good'un", BB!

For new readers who may have missed the beginning of BleepingBeauty's travails with the her previous doctor:

Jump into it here with BB's post near the bottom of page 3:
viewtopic.php?p=360728#p360728

To give you a taste of the saga:
BleepingBeauty wrote:I'm too tired right now to go into many details, but there were no fireworks today. In fact, they beat me to the punch (da bastids! ) I was really looking forward to telling them what I think about their "care," but I guess they have a pretty good idea about that already! (Read on.)

I handed over the APAP and they handed me a letter, discontinuing their service to me as a health care provider. They've been reading this forum (HA! Infamy is mine, at last! ), and they're not too happy with what I've been saying about them.
and on page 7 (bet this was the previous doc's "Clinical Director" woman) this person suddenly appeared:
waytootired wrote:How sad that the actual stories never make it on to this site... how about the truth? I guess that wouldn't be melodramatic enough for a good story. If patients were more honest with their providers they might be able to get somewhere with issues... the shame is that they are not always forthcoming and frankly many are out to just cause trouble. In the end, if patients don't work with their provider, the provider can't help the patient. It's as simple as that. Have fun with your drama on here.
There're plenty of reasons to congratulate BB for getting away from that outfit.

Thanks to you, too, RG. A good'un, indeed, and I am one happy camper!

My thanks to you, -SWS, Muffy and everyone else who's been so supportive during this ugly transition from my former crummy doctor to this new top-notch go-getter who loves a challenge. This forum truly is a gift to those of us who need what the generous folks here are able and willing to offer so freely - their time, expertise, good advice and encouragement. It's invaluable, and I'm grateful to be a beneficiary.

You guys and gals rock!

Say, what's the altitude of Prescott Valley?

About 5,000 feet.

Why do you ask, Muffmeister? If you know of a good lab near there, please enlighten me.

I don't know of any first-hand (or even second-hand) but when you said you lived at 5000 feet, wanted to match up elevation, and a topographical map showed Prescott Valley at about that height, I said "Hey, huh?"

Do you live near there? Do you know anything about the Sleep Disorders Center of Prescott Valley?

Yes, and yes. There are only two labs that I know of in that area, and that's one of them.

The new sleep doc said she's familiar with a lab in the mountains, in a town called Cottonwood (near Jerome and Sedona). The elevation there is about 3,300 ft., and I live at about 4,700 ft. But when push came to shove, she said she'd prefer to have me tested at a lab where she's certain they know how to titrate a potential CompSAS patient and she can set the parameters for the new study. I told her I'd go wherever she wanted me to go, and it looks like I'll be heading to Phoenix (at about 1,100 ft.) for my new sleep study - hopefully, very soon.

Ahh, Muffintop. You have an interesting and cryptic way of expressing yourself. Took me a few minutes to figure out what you were saying, but I got there. I trust most others here (who aren't as sleep-deprived as I am these days) will get it much faster than I did.

Good to know we're on the same page.

Yeah, I figured as much.

Hi, CD! Image

It's pretty sad, though, if she's still so fascinated by anything I have to say in this forum. Our relationship is officially severed, and she'd be far better off if she was reading other posts here. She could educate herself about how thousands of patients are pretty much having to care for themselves, out of necessity.

Oh, well. You can lead a CD to reality, but you can't make her think...
