Re: OT by Rooster
Forget the party affiliation.........what sends me over the edge is how the "tail wags the dog" in this nation.
No democracy has ever survived beyond 200 years. We are on borrowed time here. For the past 50 years US citizens have been systematically brainwashed into guilt for everything from slavery, poverty, unjust wars, urban violence, destruction of the environment and the destruction of each other's physical health. Now, we have a nation of bed-wetters who are afraid to stand up and oppose the very viewpoints and persons who have perpetrated this guilt trip on the nation.
What has happened to pride in seeing our flag flying in the breeze; to lumps in our throats when we hear our national anthem; to every school child knowing the words to all the armed forces' hyms; to disciplining children with a swat on the rear? GUILT...can you believe it? Like arsenic poisoning - slow, deliberate, calculated, the brainwashers have finally overdosed the majority and turned them silent and afraid to speak out against the left wing, liberal extremists.
Oh, sure, the party lines were once sharp and clear. Traditionally, the democrats hovered over the underdogs and protected the workers while the republicans were all about big business and less regulation. Why have the republicans lost their way and morphed into something ugly; because this nation has lost its way. This business of unity between the parties or all of us reaching a common ground and marching hand-in-hand is idealistic. For social order and health of government to prevail, there must be differing voices and a NON-SILENT majority. We need to shake this guilt that's been slowly poisoning us and pick back up our traditional values. Once that happens, the republican party will find its way again.
Thanks a lot for stirring me up, Rooster. I usually avoid these OT forums but this one drug me into the debate.

Can anyone figure out why the grill marks don't match up with the grill pattern here ...

Ditto what mdbarthe said, plus:
I think of myself as a "small-L" independent libertarian. While I recognize that there are some things that government (at all levels) must do, I resent this ever growing intrusion into every corner of our lives. Things that should be handled by local or state governments are now dictated from DC. I'm not excluding Republicans or Democrats from blame here because they're equally guilty, especially in the past couple of decades.
I've voted for both major parties over the years, probably more so for Republicans because of their traditional opposition to more and more regulation. However, that opposition isn't nearly what it once was and today there's not a heck of a lot of difference between the two major parties, despite all the rhetoric from bloggers and others.
Now the President and Congress are actually talking about regulating college football playoffs! May God help us all.

mdbarthe,
Best one so far, IMO!
We have a one-party system with two wings called Democrat and Republican.
Thanks,

Cannabilism
Three men lost in the forest were captured by cannibals. The cannibal king told the prisoners that they could live if they passed a trial. The first step of the trial was to enter the forest and get ten pieces of the same kind of fruit. So, all three men went separate ways to gather fruits.
The first one came back and said to the king, “I brought ten apples.” The king then explained, “Next, you have to shove the fruits up your butt without so much as an expression on your face, or you’ll be eaten.” The first apple went in, but on the second he winced in pain, and was killed.
The second one arrived, and showed the king ten berries. When the king explained the trial to him he thought to himself that this should be easy.
1…2…3…4…5…6…7…8…and on the ninth berry, he burst out in laughter, and was killed.
The first guy and the second guy met in heaven. The first one asked, “Why did you laugh? You almost got away with it!”
The second one replied, I couldn’t help it, I saw the third guy coming with pineapples.”

The problem with a two-party system government is that it is only one party away from a one-party sytem dictatorship.
Now is the time to start a third and/or fourth party sytem.

Re: OT by Rooster
True story.
My daughter is a freshman at a large state university. On fall break she asked to interview me about my opinions on health care/insurance for a poly sci course paper. Knowing that more than 95% of the professors are liberals or leftists, I warned her that she would get libertarian opinions from me. She said that is OK.
After an excellent hour interview, I again warned her if she puts all of that in her paper, she will get a 'D' or worse from the liberal professor. My daughter said, "Oh don't worry daddy. After I write what you said, I have to do an analysis of your position. In the analysis, I will make you look stupid."
She made the highest 'A' in the class on that paper!

People with a moral/social acceptance of certain traditional Republican negative wedge issues such as same-sex marriage, abortion, and certain other non-“family values” issues -- lifestyle issues that should be of no concern to government and are protected by the Bill of Rights -- those people are not welcome by the Republican party and often called un-American, or unpatriotic … that is intolerance.
You know, presidential statements like “you are either with us or against us” … that is intolerance.
At least you have a smart daughter

I can't speak for the Republican party, except to say if you count registered Republican voters, it is much more diverse than you would have us believe. However, are you saying that people who believe same-sex marriage is immoral, or abortion is immoral, or sex outside marriage is immoral, do not have the right to organize to promote their viewpoints or even to have an effect on elections?DreamStalker wrote: ....

Yes. I realize that there registered Republicans that are just as diverse as the rest of the people on this planet, but they generally remain in the closet unless they are found out (ie. senators Vitter, Craig and rep Foley, etc.) ... they sort of get kicked out of the GOP except for Vitter who repented and was forgiven/tolerated.
I think the Bill of Rights allows us to do as we please so long as what we do does not infringe on anyone elses rights. So if two same-sex people want to do whatever they consent to ... who's business is it to stop them? If a person wants to marry a monkey ... I have no problem with that but most all registered Republicans would.

Whew!! That poor chicken looks like it's been cooked to death -- doesn't matter what the grill patterns are.....
I haven't visited a Kentucky fried rodent place in more years than I can count. They call that stuff chicken??? Hmmmmm.....some version of chicken I don't recognize.....
As for the repugnantcans and the demodummies.....what can you say. With the exception of the fringes (What was the song?? Lunatic Fringe??? We know you're out there!!!!!) there's not a dimes worth of difference in either, and the fringes are just as scary and dangerous as any fundamentalists of any persuasion!!!! If'n you don't believe what I believe, ya'll be goin' ta hell.....Ok...I'll save ya a seat!!!!
And for the Rusted Limp-paw?? It's really too bad his money allowed him to escape justice on his hypocrisy. Many other pain pill abusing doctor shoppers are convicted felons doing hard time, as he should be.....just goes to prove that "justice" can be purchased just about anywhere in this country......Once again proving, "Life is like a sh*t sandwich. The more bread you got, the less sh*t you have to eat"!!
If you look at his sorid "life" you'll know he's nothing more than a two bit, failed disc jockey, who couldn't keep a job in broadcasting because he couldn't keep his bigoted mouth shut -- until the hypocrite found his niche preaching hate, discontent and stupidity to the ignorant......
cheers

Wars arise from a failure to understand one another's humanness. Instead of summit meetings, why not have families meet for a picnic and get to know each other while the children play together?
