ewwwww, I detest bananas, always have, cant stand the smell or the texture, everyone I know including family has flipped me s**t over this since I was little "eat them they are soooo good for you", now I am really never going to get them off my back why couldn't it have been mangos or raspberries......
I agree entirely, GVD. I firmly believe bananas are the work of satan - they're evil . Can't believe so many are seduced by them.
Smell disgusting, taste disgusting, even feel disgusting. Can't even watch someone eat them!

Weird how there's only 2 of us not falling for their sham! And....

I agree Babs, EXCELLENT restraint!

Prior to SCD, I've had Vegemite -- I may be one of the odd, rare, non-Australians who actually liked the stuff. Bananas and vegemite do sound interesting. Except I can't have the yeast-based vegemite anymore.
2) An equal to die for meal - bananas wrapped in bacon & grilled til bacon cooked - (swoon)
Bacon improves almost everything.... when the next batch of bananas is ripe, I'm gonna hafta try this!
3) A big fav here in Aust is having sliced banana & dessicated coconut as a dressing on Indian curries
Oh, YUM.... now to figure out a curry recipe that doesn't involve rice or non-permitted legumes....
4) In HK they have these tiny bananas called 'lady fingers' to foreigners they look odd but the flavor is special
5) The Tongans (from Tonga in the pacific) grow 'green' bananas & have them with raw fish & coconut milk
There are dozens of variations of bananas.... and I'm still hunting for nutritional comparisons of them all to figure out which I can have and which I can't!
Anyone else got some unique recipe ?
I make muffins with finely ground almond flour, chopped walnuts, mashed bananas, and ground apples, cranberries, and anything else fruit-wise that's handy. Bananas predominate. They make a great, high-energy, portable breakfast.

Kiralynx - Curry is just the combo of spices, not the whole dish. You can put that on anything. Can you have barley or quinoa? You might try that instead of rice. Or just put it on some chicken. Or bananas.

Last night I had spaghetti sauce, olive bruschetta and meatballs. No pasta. The pasta makes me too sleepy for words. Still got pretty sleepy though. So I'm sure you'll tell me what horrible thing is in the spaghetti sauce. No bad mouthing Paul Newman, now. He's dead and can't fight back. At least I think he can't...

LOL,
B.

I know, but I like some dishes... I've been too busy with Louisiana spices to fiddle with Indian ones. Now I'm hungry.

Newman's sauce is one of the better ones. At least he uses real sugar in it instead of high fructose corn syrup... but no sweetening would be better. Did you put the olive bruschetta (it's a tapenade, isn't it?) on slices of bread? If so, there's your culprit!

There's been some research on the benefit of plaintains for Crohn's disease.

Be interested to see that -- since plaintains are very starchy, and the starch doesn't break down to monosaccharides when ripening.

Of course, there are an awful lot of things with starch in it recommended for Crohn's. Too many people have forgotten the work of Dr. Sidney Valentine Haas.

Then again, IBD is a very profitable disease for those doing the treating and selling the drugs. People who go around taking charge of their therapy, and doing a big chunk of the curing by eating healthy food are... well... gasp.... taking charge of their own health! And we all know that's anathema!

Can't compete with those exotic recipes, but grilled bacon wrapped bananas - REALLY?! You've actually eaten those and can vouch for them?

A neighborhood kid used to make peanut butter banana sandwiches. Nearly 30 years ago I fixed a summer treat of skewered bananas dipped in chocolate and frozen. I remember them being good, but it hadn't crossed my mind since then till now. Think I'll revisit that.

That grilled bananas in bacon is both a delight to smell and a flavour to behold. Just try one. Get thin rashers of bacon wrap around the banana in a spiral.
Grill on low/medium heat - the smell alone is worth the experiment.

One more very popular banana dish

Battered bananas fried in oil & delivered with ice cream - I still order that dish when I can - it is quite common in some Chinese restaurants but can be bought in traditional cafes too.

When my bananas get a little over ripe I peel them and put 'em in the freezer. When they are frozen it's like eating banana ice cream. Try it.

Preemiern, very wise of her, I'm sure.

On a more serious note, as Kiralynx has pointed out, the glycemic effect of bananas (and any food) depends on what other foods are eaten at the same time. Total glycemic load is the crucial factor here, and even for a specific food eaten by itself, the glycemic load (and the quantity) is far more important than where the food sits on the glycemic index.
