If the boards have the same part number (pn) then they are the same board, period. The only difference would be if they have a different Rev #.

I forgot to add
How to check the firmware on a tank -
Unplug the power - then plug power back in - watch the LCD display. 2 digits will display momentarily (mine beeped) followed by the blower hours. Write those 2 digits down.

For example - My Auto tank w/Cflex has version 2.7 of firmware.

I am sure Den will pop-in to add his expertise. Den was there when fire was dicovered

Edit: My pcb is labeled "Auto Cflex PCB 1017735 Rev 5"
The Rev #'s are to track minor corrections after production begins. Usu. not significant which is why the carry the same pn's.

the actual part number on the board - not how it is loaded - guess I worked eons ago in electrical place where the same main board was loaded differently for different models and was thinking this could be the same

I guess I could break down and open up the APAP and the Pro 2 and compare all little things that are soldered in or I could just look at the schematics for these and compare - but you know me, I am lazy and love to take things apart but I would be more likely to take these both apart but not today

Been busy lately......but when I DO get a chance to check, I see you've been talkin' about me again.

Well, back in the Fall of 2006, I sent my Pro 2 back to the factory because it had a little "wheeze" in the C-Flex function and I wanted to get it fixed before the warranty ran out. When it went in, it had firmware version 2.5......when it came back, it had firmware version 2.7.....same as the (new) Auto I had just purchased before sending in the Pro 2. To add more "mystery" to the similarities of these two machines (Pro 2 and Auto), they also both share the same Service Manual (only one set of PCA board schematics in there) and they both record "Variable Breathing". In previous threads, we have speculated that Respironics used (most of, if not all) the same components in both machines and disabled the Auto function in the Pro 2. I've never had any of my own machines open, so I can't verify anything.....yet. It may be that there is only a different "program" chip being the difference between the two......but, whether that's considered the "firmware" or not, I don't know. However, think about the screen programming (setup)......if you just eliminate the Auto functions through the setup function.....you've got a straight CPAP.
On a side note, I have machines with 2.5, 2.7 and 2.8 firmware.....and I'm planning on acquiring one with 2.6, shortly. I can definitely state that there ARE differences in the data recording characteristics and other quirky things between the firmware levels. (at least in the machines I own)

I know the manual for the Pro 2 and APAP are the same - I have it, but do have the manual hidden away somewhere for the Pro (not 2)?

I know I have had my Pro 2 apart 3 or 4 times now. I don't know about the APAP. Hmmm, I guess I need to get the phillips screwdriver out and open it and start comparing.

Relatively few days/nights of REALLY cold temps this year. Not all that much snow, either (but more than in quite a few of the last 20 years)......but Winter isn't over yet. Aunt Weeza is talking about basking out in the sun this weekend in her lawn chair.

With regard to the Pro and Auto conversation, on Page 7-7 of the Service Manual, they give this listing for the PCA parts.

* Contact Respironics Product Support for the proper labeling when
replacing the Bottom Enclosure
** The correct part number of the main PCA for your REMstar Auto
with C-Flex or REMstar Pro 2 is linked to the model number. Main
PCA RP#s are as follows:
• 1021760 REMstar Auto with C-Flex (International)
• 1021761 REMstar Auto with C-Flex (Domestic)
• 1021764 REMstar Pro 2 (International)
• 1021765 REMstar Pro 2 (Domestic)

I re-checked and the schematics (several pages) listed in the manual all have the "Auto" in the description. "Pro 2" is not mentioned in the schematics.
There were apparently at least a couple of generations of "Pro" machines before the Pro 2 because I have the manuals. There is a manual for the Pro machines above the serial number of 2 million (2002), in addition to an earlier one (2001).
The print date for the manual for Pro2 and Auto is July of 2004.

Programming RemStar Pro2

Post by Poppi » Wed May 06, 2009 1:40 pm

I need to know how to program the pressures on a RESPIRONICS REMSTAR PRO2 C-FLEX PAP machine. Mine is like the one shown on the website http://remstarpro2.respironics.com/

I'm new here but not new to PAP machines. I have a RemStar Pro2 C-Flex for the past four years. I have been unable to use the blasted thing because I cannot find a full face mask that will not leak. Yes, I'm one of the open mouth breathers and have tried the chin strap and the whole nine yards. If I tighten the chin strap tight enough to keep my mouth closed, it hurts and I cannot go to sleep. If I tighten a mask tight enough to prevent leaks, it is so tight it hurts and therefore I cannot go to sleep. The last mask I tried, which I now have that I cannot use. (I never have since I had the first BiPAP machine been able to get any mask that would not leak so I could sleep), is a F&P 431. I have a friend who has a RESMED FF mask that has a knob on the mask in the forehead area that he adjusts to remove leaks. He claims it does the trick.

The sleep doctor who administered the sleep study, (I had two of them), isn't worth a dang. He insisted that I use a certain DME that provided absolutely no service whatsoever and as a result I gave up trying to a PAP machine. First I tried a BiPAP, then a C-PAP, then the C-Flex. Pressure was set so high I couldn't exhale using the Bi-PAP and C-PAP. I can exhale with the C-Flex.

At present I am trying to get service from a different DME but they want proof of a sleep study which I have, and they also want a prescription from the sleep doctor for PAP supplies. This doctor, if you can call him that, (he's an insult to his profession), will not furnish a prescription untril I return to see him and he conducts the whole 'nine yards' of testing pressures, etc.. Why in the world would I want to return to him again when he did nothing to help in the first place? I suppose I will have to see another sleep doctor and have another sleep study performed and go through all that crap again just to change DME's.

Email me at GCMP21@AOL.COM

Thanks, Poppi

PS: IF this is not the correct forum, please inform me where I need to post.

I have been trying again to use the C-Flex machine but I am experiencing the same disgusting leaks and smothering I had at first.

I have sleep Apnea very bad. I suffered atrial Fibrillation (afib), and Premature Ventricular Contractions, (PVC'S) for over 34 years. Afib got so bad I had a pva in 2004, an isolations in 2006, and an ablations for pvc's in 2008. Still have both.

The sleep doctor ordered the exhale pressure set so high I couldn't exhale with any of the PAP machines and I leanrned how to programm them myself.

It has been a few years since I programmed one of them and have forgotten how to program the things. Does anyone know how to program a RESPIRONICS REMSTAR PRO2 C-FLEX? Please let me know.

The instructions have been posted many, many times on the forum. Here's one of them.

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36318&p=313927&hili ... up#p313927

You didn't say what your pressure is, but sometimes making a mask too tight can exacerbate the leaks. And then, sometimes some masks just don't work worth a darn no matter what you do with them.
Your friend probably has the Quattro. It's pretty good. I have one......however, I like my ResMed Ultra Mirage Full Face mask better. Have you checked out http://www.cpapauction.com yet? It's a good place to get good deals on many items.

Thanks DEN for your response. It has been years since I have visited these websites that I had forgotten how to find information.

Poppi, have you ever seen an ENT for an assessment? My mouth breathing is caused by nasal resistance - usually a flare-up of congestion from allergic or vasomotor rhinitis. I suffer from the same dilemmas with FF masks and chin straps, so I try to keep my nose as clear as I can, to allow for nasal mask use. I am waiting to see an ENT.

Yep, you're SOL. This model was my original one. Only does hourly compliance. It wasn't until the Pro2 that they added the useful statistics.
