I have tried several things to get into chat with no luck. I have cleared the cache, cleared the flash cache, cleared my browswer of all cookies and everything else that could be cleared. I have tried four different computers and two laptops, all of which had worked before. I also disabled my firewall (software and hardware) with no luck. I tried one of my laptops via my work network and at a neighbors house. I went into my browswer setting and set security to minimal and still nothing.

Ok - finally fixed my issue with the chat room and thought I'd pass on what I found.

First, My system:
iBook G3 900 mhz
Mac OS X 10.4.11
FF 3.0 / Safari 3.1.1

Solution:
After trying everything mentioned in this discussion, I tried something I don't think was mentioned - update Flash. I updated to version 10 and everything is working fine.

If nothing has helped so far, try the flash update: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Hope it helps.

David

BTW, I reloaded Flash last night while trying to get onto chat; closed down all windows and restarted my entire computer; tried other browsers (IE 7, Safari, and Opera); and still have had no luck INCLUDING today.

Thanks!
Karen,

P.S. Trinh, I know this is frustrating for you, and that sorting out problems (aka bugs) is tricky and seemingly elusive. You have my best wishes as you keep on 'hacking' away at this one!

I get repeated:

Socket Server Connection Failed

and can't get into chat.

I'm using Windows XP, IE 7

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008120122 Firefox/3.0.5

WinXP Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.080814-1236 : Service Pack 3)

I hardly ever use IE, but if I do, it's IE 7.0.5730.11
Can't get into the chatroom via Firefox or IE.

Have been using Flash version 9 until I upgraded to Flash 10.0.12.36 today.

With Flash 9, for the past several days, I do get the login screen, but get the Socket server connection failed error:
Image

After upgrading to Flash 10 (did a cold reboot afterwards) I've not been able to get even the login screen. Not that it matters, since I know it would have the "Socket server connection failed" message on it, anyway.

With both Flash 9 and Flash 10, the "starting chat system" gets only as far as 2% or 3%. One time today with Flash 10, it got to 11%, but it almost always stops at 2% or 3% with Flash 10, just like it did with Flash 9.
Image

To add to the confusion... yesterday, while idly trying to enter over and over (using Flash 9) the "starting chat system" loading suddenly ran its full course, and I was able to go into the chat room. Don't know why it loaded completely that time. I had not changed anything and had been getting only 3% loading on repeated attempts moments before.

After being in the chat room for awhile, I exited and tried to enter again -- success again. Thought I was finally home free!

But today, with nothing changed, still using Flash 9, I was back to 2 and 3% loading and "Socket server connection failed" again.

So...upgraded a little while ago to Flash 10. Still getting 2 or 3% "starting chat system" loading, but no login screen at all.

One minor quibble that pales in comparison to not being able to get in at all (except during those two inexplicably successful times yesterday) -- I used to go into chat with the nic "Laura - rested gal". The new chat will not accept that many characters.

You have my sympathies, Trinh, sweetie!

to get into chat - this is what worked for me - who knows if it would work for anyone else

try to get into chat - get the socket error - stay on that page - clean flash cookies even if there aren't any - yeah I know - phantom cookies - refresh the chat page -

Looks like you're using same things I am.. Firefox, XP, Flash 10.

What do you click to get to where you can clean out flash cookies?

okay - you know you need to do quote to save that with copy and paste but you can open it in save it that way

I have it in another tab at the time and I do delete all sites - no playing around - as I told you the other night when you got to chat, don't bother with the settings as you have to clean out flash cookies often - and settings other than minimal to make you happy (like me font size and colors of everyone) is a WASTE OF TIME

I see RestedGal has a new picture!! WAYTAGO.

Looks quite different than the other one.

I've never gone into the chat ... will have to give it a try and see what happens. I shouldn't have any cookies for the chat since I have never gone into it before.

Nope .. using Firefox ... Shockwave Flash ver 10.0 r12 ... just got the socket error .. once it looked like it wanted to load but then developed sever Apnea and lost conciousness and lapsed back into the blue screen.

I was gonna try under Windows 7 but doubt it would help ... just add more complications to the picture.

ok, I tried it just now, using the steps that worked for you, Jules.

No luck. After deleting the phantom cookies and using my browser-back-arrowing to the chat page, it still will not go farther than 3% on the "starting chat system" load.

Thanks, Willie -- that picture was from my vacation in Jamaica a couple of weeks ago.
