Any body else had difficulty installing encorepro software?
You mean you're not going to tell us how he did it?

Fifi, I don't use the "URL" button when putting links into my posts. I write out whatever link I want to put in, this way:
{URL=viewtopic.php?t=3758][b}Jul 19, 2005 subject: Encore Pro installation problem resolved![/b}[/URL}
The only thing to change...use straight brackets [ ] instead of the curly brackets { } at the beginning and end of the the example, and also where I had the "b" for bold on and off. I had to use curly brackets at 4 places in the example above so that you could see exactly how I write it out (including how to make the written words bold) without it becoming the link again. LOL!
I keep a short example of one (with the correct brackets - straight instead of curly) in a notepad file. I use it like a template, copy/pasting whatever URL and whatever words I want it to use into it.
For quotes and images, I do use the "Quote" and "IMG" buttons, but for URLs I'd rather write it out so that whatever words I put in it are "clickable". Then it doesn't end up being a longgggggg clickable URL that extends way across the page the way using the URL button does it.

It's easier than you think.
1. You decide you want to call the link - I'll put it in red: Rested Gal's explanation.
2. You find the url.
3 In this case, I clicked on the little square next to RG's message, just in front of the word "posted".
4. If you open that message, you copy the URL from the explrer's address windows (the narrow one, beneath the toolbar).
5. Here's the url to RG's explanation: viewtopic.php?p=29383#29383
6. Instead of leaving this in language understood by computers, you connect it to Rested Gal's explanation. by telling the computer:
a. I am going to give you a url address now: {url=this is the address I mean}
b. this is the text I want you to show the readers (e.g. Rested Gal's explanation.)
c. And this is the end of what I want the readers to click on {/url} - the slash always stands for end.
So eventually, your text looks like this: {url=viewtopic.php?p=29383#29383}Rested Gal's explanation{/url}
Except that in your text, you'll have square brackets wherever RG or I have used curly ones.
When the brackets are square, you get this Rested Gal's explanation
And if you want anything in bold, you can block it with the mouse, and click on the bold button - the computer will oblige by inserting a "start bold" in front of the blocked text - a {b} and "end bold" at the end - a {/b} - but again in square brackets.

derek wrote:As many of you will have read in her thread, Fifi and I have been struggling for the past few days to get Encore Pro running on her computer. Each time she would get a message:
"Unable to Load MSDE successfully Please Contact Respironics For Support."
and of course we all know that Respironics will not assist end-users.
I'm pleased to report that we have fixed the problem It is not documented anywhere in the Encore Pro instructions, so I will outline it here in case others have the same problem.
It turns out that in order for the Microsoft SQL Desktop Server (MSDE) to install and function in Windows XP you must have File and Printer Sharing enabled in your networking set-up. This is an option that you set up when you configure your computer for networking and, although it may seem strange, it makes sense when you understand how a SQL server works.
If you have this problem when installing, go to
Settings -> Network Connections -> Local Area Connection
and click the Properties... item under the General tab. On the next window, in the box under the General tab you should see a checked item "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks"
If it is not there you must install it as follows:
1) Click the Install... button.
2) On the next window click on Service to highlight it, then click the Add... button.
3) On the next window click on File and Printer Sharing and OK
This should do it, and you should now be able to install Encore Pro.
Good luck.
