the way he describes how it works, indicate he is a fraud who even doesn't know how the apnea happens

he says:
"Treating Sleep Apnea works by relaxing muscle tension that aggravate the problem of getting the breathing signal to your diaphragm. "

"Herbal treatment for sleep apnea is achieved by relaxing you so that you can fall asleep easier."

what is this cr#p?

"Light sleeper" and "breathes heavy" are code words for sleep apnea - you both very likely have it. The PureSleep device is treating one obvious symptom (snoring), but sleep apnea is silently and slowly destroying your health.
A little alarmist wouldn't you say. Since you know nothing about me.. I'll tell you. I sleep almost silently, barely moving all night, mostly because of the best bed ever made.. ergo system tempurpedic (moves up/down). I don't snore or toss and turn, but unless in deep sleep, I wake easily. She sleeps much more soundly now, with pure sleep. I can tell that when she breathes heavy, its because she is dreaming. Other than then.. barely a peep.

Sleep Apnea? Anything's possible i guess

Our local dentist is really pushing the dental device. She is convinced that it works for anyone diagnosed with mild-moderate apnea. I could go on and on how I disagree with some of her ideas. I have had mild patients take a fairly high pressure to fix, and doubt a dental device would work. However, I am open to anything that helps improve a patients life so we are working side by side. This is how it will work. Patient is diagnosed with mild osa. Patient goes through numerous measurements for the device. Patients sleeps with device for 2-3 weeks, then comes back for a sleep study wearing the device, so we can prove that is is actually working. I'm hoping to have some data on this soon!! The dentist on a positive note is willing to come and watch the sleep study to understand exactly how it works other than just the articles and conferences she has gone to.

I purchased the PureSleep dental device awhile back. I was going to try anything I could possibly afford to deal with I was already suspecting was severe apnea before heading to the doctor and sleep lab. I found it worthless. I refitted it several times but found in the end that I could not keep it in my mouth. I would wake during the night and have to search through the bed to find it. I bought a chin strap but that didn't help either. In the end I stopped using it. After several months I decided to try it again. During the night I awakened without it in my mouth several times and the last time I couldn't find it. Then when getting up and walking in my bedroom, I stepped on a piece of it. Later I found others. My dog had found it during the night and chewed it into pieces!!! Additionally during the time I was trying it out my bed partner told me on several occasions that I was snoring as much as without it. I didn't find it helpful and while I didn't have any clinical way to test my apneas, throughout my use of it, my daytime sleepiness increased and my brain fog spiraled out of control. Thankfully I am now on cpap and the world feels like a much friendlier place.

Just my opinion, but I don't think that this product is worthy of cpap.com's good reputation. Kathy

Roster You A notarized release

Just kidding. Your advice is, as usual, sound. Here is my $0.02:

1.) if you list a device as a sleep APNEA aid you are claiming a "Medical Benefit" (read that you as you are now a Medical device and as such need FDA approval). If you say that it helps "stop snoring" (APNEA is a recognized, medically treatable "condition" Snoring is not) and don't claim any "Medical Benefit" you can sell it. (yes remember the FDA is an arm of the "Gummimint" it "don't gotta" make sense). If you manufacture a medical device then you, supposedly, have to prove something to the FDA (clinical studies, trials etc.). So if you want snake oil you can have it.... or not. If you are trying to treat sleep APNEA, then the device should be fitted by a pro and the results must be monitored by a sleep study (or three). Recording Oximeters for daily monitoring would be nice too (as Roster points out).

2.) But what of us who suffer from severe Bruxing (he asked ). I have to wear an appliance anyway, so I figure that if I have to wear something to protect my teeth maybe I can get some snore relief as well
I am not touting this particular product AS AN APNEA CURE or even a snore reliever. Also, I admit my situation is different than a poor schmoo (sorry Al Capp wherever you are) who has not consulted a doctor or had a sleep study. I am under a doctor's supervision. I just want to stop my snoring with a FFM. I think there could be some help with a MAD device (but, maybe not this one). I am thinking about the Tomed SomnoGuard AP, but, it can't be shipped to the USA as it is a listed Medical Device, hence, the conundrum. If I can get my hands on one, I do intend to try it. I will let you know the results. Again, I am not even thinking of abandoning CPAP therapy for the device. I only want to investigate the MAD as an adjunct to the CPAP Therapy.

And yes, it has been a little bit of a struggle finding my way. This forum with it's free exchange of ideas has been a Godsend!

OBTW a shout out to SO WELL I am firmly in the immersion stage!

God bless and Cheers,

Dave

Our dentist made a custom dental device for my husband when he admitted how badly he snored. My husband wore it for awhile, BOY, it was quiet in our bedroom! Then it fell of the dresser on to the floor. We came home, and discovered the puppy had pretty much chewed it to pieces.. now this thing was REALLY, expensive, and my husband did not bat an eye lash that the puppy ate it.. He later admitted, he hated it, and it was very uncomfortable to have his jaw setting in a differnt position.. so GOOD DOG!
He still needs to go in for a sleep study, little varment is hard to pin down.

I have a TAP 2 dental device for sleep apnea, and I can tell you it is saving my life. I snored and was slowing losing sleep over a number of years, eventually leaving me a total zombie, unable to concentrate or get anything done at work or home. I got a sleep test and it documented that I had sleep apnea. I tried the CPAP mask, I tried the surgery, then the mask again. Even though my sleep studies said I only had mild apnea I was still unable to get relief - until I tried the TAP. Both the CPAP and the dental devices can take months to get used to, and even when you do get to tolerate them, they still can give you problems and be very uncomfortable. Give things time, like a year, don't give up. Try new things when others don't work. But dont give up. I see no reason why the cheaper non-prescription dental devices should not work. I'm buying one now to get me though the nights when my TAP is in the shop for normal wear and tear maintenance. All these devices do is pull your lower jaw forward a bit. If it helps snoring, its probably helping your apnea too. Only a little bit should still help. Good luck to you all on your own searches. No doubt some things that work for some may not work for others, so don't stop looking for your cure. If Puresleep works for you, use it! And thanks for the link to the 7 stages of apnea - so true, so true.

My husband was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea 2 years ago. He was fitted with a CPAP and really struggled to sleep with the device. We eventually saw an ENT surgeon to hear about surgery as a possible solution. He did a scope of his throat and found that his apnea was almost entirely due to an anatomical condition where his airway was constricted when he laid down. If his jaw could be jutted forward while he slept, this would be remedied. He told us to go online and try PureSleep. He said it was made for snoring but in about 10% of sleep apnea sufferers (those who have the anatomical condition my husband had) it would also take care of the apnea. He said for most people, sleep apnea has several causes and if this is one of them, this device would help to a lesser or greater extent. It has worked wonderfully for my husband. He is like a new man. He sleeps soundly and quietly. I don't have to wake him up several times in the morning. On Sunday mornings, he wakes up before me and wants to get his day started. It's really amazing.
