6PtStar in Hospital but will be back in a few days

Post by 6PtStar » Thu Sep 25, 2008 8:19 pm

This is Jerry’s daughter. He asked me to send a post for him to explain his absence the past few days. Last Friday, dad had major heart failure around 7am in the morning. He woke mom with his gurgling noise and then fell off the bed and quit breathing. Mom called 911. They had to zap him several times (both at the house, on the way in the ambulance, and once he was in emergency) to get his heart going.

The doctors were very concerned at how long he had been without oxygen and prepared us for the worst. We thought we had lost him. Fortunately, they were very wrong. They were able to take dad off of the ventilator over the weekend and he regained consciousness with no permanent brain damage. On Tuesday, he had a catherization test which showed significant blockage.

After a lot of family debate and fierce encouragement from his friends, he agreed to have triple bypass surgery Wednesday morning. The doctors reviewed the results again and decided prior to the surgery that one area of blockage was actually minor and ended up doing a double-bypass. However, one of the arteries that was blocked was the main one in front.

He is doing very well and is already today sitting up, eating a hearty meal, and even standing. Tomorrow he is going to get a new high-tech combination pacemaker/defibrillator. Then we expect him to be home and back online within another couple of days. All of the doctors are now expecting him to have a full recovery that will have him doing even better than he had been.

He is looking forward to sharing his tales. -- Pixey (Jerry's Daughter)

Thanks for the bad and much better news.

I'm not big on prayer but I do wish him a speedy recovery. I hope to see him posting here again as soon as he can.

Pixey, that's so good of you to let us know...and so typically caring of your dad to ask you to contact his message board friends for him. What a terrible ordeal for him and your entire family!

I'm adding my very best wishes to him for a smooth recovery. Hope to see him back here very soon!
