Re: Men Only: McCain checking out Palin (Audio not safe for work
Frankly, I'm getting sick of ALL of the "media" reporting.......it's always slanted one way or the other.
How about JUST THE FACTS......and quit spinning it every which way?!?!

That's cuz journalism is dead and a thing of the past. Corporations have taken control and shaped modern media reporting into ratings generators so that they can market stuff like ... "ask your doctor if blaaa blaa bla is right for you". They try and drug you up and put you into a financial matrix in order to manipulate you into their profit strucutre.Wulfman wrote:Frankly, I'm getting sick of ALL of the "media" reporting.......it's always slanted one way or the other.

Re: Men Only: McCain checking out Palin (Audio not safe for work
I think we have the 24 hour "news" channels to thank for that. Used to be you watched Walter Crankcase, Huntley & Brinkley or whomever for a half hour to an hour and got "all the news that is the news" in that time. Now they have to fill up the other 23 hours with re-hashing the same things.DreamStalker wrote:That's cuz journalism is dead and a thing of the past. And your last sentence or so about the doctors......that's one reason I haven't been back to one in three years. Can't say that I've had withdrawal symptoms about that......

Re: Men Only: McCain checking out Palin (Audio not safe for work
I have BASIC basic cable. That means the local PBS station, 3 religious stations, two shopping channels, the local university, a public announcement station, ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX networks and a faux local station called 'PeachTree' that's supposed to be about Atlanta.Wulfman wrote:I think we have the 24 hour "news" channels to thank for that. PBS is always in fund-raising mode. If I see another 'Doo-Wap' commercial for the golden '50's' I'm going to vomit.
The religious stations really don't speak to me - I've removed them from my channel line up.
The shopping channels don't speak to me - also removed.
Public announcements are always interesting. Sometimes they show the local government in session. Okay.
University Channel: Usually dance or dramatic stage presentations in other languages - pretty unprofessional, but sometimes interesting.
The Networks...
From 1:00am to 7:00am it's all informercials. All.
Some stations run infomercials during the day when nobody is home.
We get some local news from CBS and ABC.
Fox Atlanta is about the level of a fifth grader.
National news on the real networks - ABC, CBS and NBC has become a two hour fashion show with a sprinkling of news and weather. NBC in particular has begun to look like a shopping channel, showing the latest designs from some designer I've never heard of and don't care about and how reasonable a pair of $250 shoes is. Are they freakin' kidding? Weather has been entirely compromised on the national level, so they've become more advertisement for 'With a name like Schmuckhead' wrapped around centenarians.
National "news magazines" have become pure advertisement for whatever products their sister corporations are hawking - because they're all owned by GE or Disney - I can never tell which. They aren't news anymore. It's just extended commercials to make us want to buy crap we don't need.
What little news there is has been so damped down that it's almost more an afterthought than real news. Anchors used to ask tough questions of the politicians. No longer. Now they're restricted to asking questions of actors in films put out by sister industries, or people with interesting new books. I defy you to find a single substancial piece of news on the national networks 'news' magazines for the last eight years. Gone.
Whoa, this is about to become a rant...
Children's shows have become appalling moralizing drivel. There are only a few that are worth anything, and they're created in Canada.
I don't get the 'real' news channels, and I cannot afford them. It makes me wonder if those aren't just more of the same. At this point, I'm so fed up with television in general that I'm just about ready to remove cable television from our services altogether. Our cable bill is about ready to go up again in October. I'm going to tell them if it doesn't stay at the current price or lower, we're dropping the service.

One correction. They did not steal it. They bought it from elected officials.DreamStalker wrote:........... the corporations that have stolen and now run the nation.
A corporation in a free market is an extremely powerless institution. All it can do is produce products and services that people want and are willing to pay for. It is entirely at the mercy of consumers.
Elected officials sell power to corporations. Elected officials are the root cause of the things you rightly fear, DS. You are barking up the wrong tree. Take off that cpap mask and smell the rank politicians in the other tree.

Thank you Sir Rooster for re-posting the link.....
In reading through the entire thread *<heavy sigh>* there was apparently someone who decided that they would attempt to lay their own narrow minded viewpoint on everyone else......Hmmmm. That sounds awfully familiar.....
A few trying to lay their pinheaded view of morality on the rest of us????? Hmmmm. That sounds awfully familiar.....
It's really come down to, "not a dimes worth of difference" -- AGAIN!!!
I fail to understand why, "We the People" are apparently collectively stupid election after election......I view Washington as a toilet that we the people seem to be unwilling to flush. Year after year we send the same lame scumbags back to supposedly "represent" us, knowing full well they will represent themselves and their own narrow interests, or should I say the narrow interests of whomever it is that has the most money this week.......
The creedo of a politician, "I'm a liar, a cheat, a sneak and a thief. While I'm not kissing babies, I'm stealing their candy".
As much as I have very high respect for McCain for the service he has given to all of us, I view him like I did Bob Dole.....He is a very good senator but would make an extremely crappy president -- he can have more direct effect on our government right where he is.
I'm not overly enamoured with Obama either, but given the choices we have, AGAIN, there really isn't much of a choice....
With all that said, the most important message is -- VOTE!!!!! Get off our asses and vote!!!! It's hard to believe that we can't seem to get 50% of the people to the polls on an election day (Which really means we're ruled by the minority!!!!)....we take sooooooo much for granted in this great country -- it's really quite sad!!!!
Just some observations from the left coast
cheers

A Politician Out Soliciting Votes at an Indian Reservation-
"It was election time, again. So, a politician decided to go out to the local reservation to gather support from the Native Americans. They were all assembled in the Council Hall to hear the speech. The politician had worked up to his finale, and the crowd was getting more and more excited. "I promise better education opportunities for Native Americans!"
The crowd went wild, shouting "Hoya! Hoya!"
The politician was a bit puzzled by the native word, but was encouraged by their enthusiasm. "I promise gambling reforms to allow a Casino on the Reservation!"
"Hoya! Hoya!" cried the crowd, stomping their feet.
"I promise more social reforms and job opportunities for Native Americans!"
The crowd reached a frenzied pitch shouting "Hoya! Hoya! Hoya!"
After the speech, the politician was touring the Reservation, and saw a tremendous herd of cattle. Since he was raised on a ranch, and knew a bit about cattle, he asked the Chief if he could get closer to take a look at the cattle.
"Sure," the Chief said, "but be careful not to step in the hoya.""

How to save 5 million bucks:
A president's pension currently is $191,300 per year, until he is 80 years old.
Assuming the next president lives to age 80. Sen. McCain would receive ZERO pension as he would reach 80 at the end of two terms as president. Sen. Obama would be retired for 26 years after two terms and would receive $4,973,800 in pension.
Therefore it would certainly make economic sense to elect McCain in November.
How's that for non partisan thinking???

Nice try Tom but you left out one critical expenditure in the McCain budget ... the Iraq war.tomjax wrote:How to save 5 million bucks:

At $12 billion per month (assumming an 8-year administration) you end up with about $1.2 trillion ... thats $1,200,000,000,000. There are more zeros on the end of that number than McCain has houses
... and that doesn't include taking care of our wounded Iraq veterans past, present, and future.
How's that for a reverse fox spin? ... change the channel once in a while will 'ya!

Just like in a free-market ... it takes two to tango ... buyers and sellers (corporations who buy power and politicians who sell power). The trees are full of both ... pick one, anyone, they are all rank.

Okay, the Demo-Commie knee jerk liberal has a question.
So, the new Beau's father is a retired Navy Admiral. Went to some Navy school with McCain. HATES McCain. Can't say enough bad things about him. Apparently has dirt up the ying-yang about him.
But he's going to vote for him in November.
Why?
I just don't understand Republicans....
Beau says he's not in love one way or the other. I offered him a BJ to vote for Obama, as a joke. He's now taking it very seriously. I told him I had to witness him marking his absentee ballot, sealing it, and mailing it before said services would be performed. He's typing up the agenda, I swear...
LOL,
