I believe that some of the heaver than air Co2 gets trapped in the tubing as you exhale if it drops below your head and slowly builds up to the point that you are breathing in a lot of Co2 and if you are as sensitive to it as I am it causes problems.

I must have cool air to breathe in order to fall asleep. The humidifier with heat did not work for me.

I tried filling my water chamber with distilled water, freezing, and turning the heat to zero. This worked for awhile but the water chambers corrode and had to be washed daily. I tried filling them with ice chips too, same problem with pin hole corrosion.

My solution is filling the water chamber with water pillows (from Amazon) and keeping one in the freezer to be switched out daily just before bed. I have more than one chamber so one in the freezer and one in the machine. I just switch them out. No need to open them or clean. The only downside is that it takes a couple of weeks for the slight plastic odor to dissipate from the water pillows.

With this method I have no corrosion problems, no cleaning issues, and plenty of cool air to help me get to sleep.
