Bah, I forgot to login

[quote="Anonymous"]Generally, one night's data.

I'll stick with the 8 for a week and see if the AHI's (especially the AI's) go down or not...

Cranky and tired

Post by jddqr » Wed Mar 12, 2008 8:51 am

Posting an update.

Last night the numbers were

8.2 pressure
0.12L/h
18.2 AHI
7.0 AI
11.2 HI

And, I feel like crud today.

My wife told me that during the night I was very restless, and at several times I pulled my mask away from my face to take a deep breath, and then let it go back on my face. (I have no memory of this)

Cranky & tired. Just wanted to vent.

Which makes how many nights on 8 with those bad results?

With those results, it really no wonder you're feeling like crud.

About 5 nights. I'm starting to wonder if I should try a pressure of 14

NO WAY!! There's no relationship between the number of events and how high your pressure should be. But going too high you may bring on pressure induced events instead if helping yourself. Finding out the right pressure has to be done systematically, and slowly.

I don't know Resmed machines, so I'm somewhat surprised your average pressure is higher then what you set it up to be.

Your pressure is probably too low, by may possibly be too high. The majority of people need edit: [their pressure at 10 or more] - but your psg was for 8, and you may belong to the minority the needs less.

Do you have your PSG report? Do you have any idea why they stopped at 8? Did they mention any central apneas at higher pressure?

At this point 8 is not giving you what you need - and I would contact my Dr. and tell him/her how bad I was feeling, and how bad the objective results.

My worst night when I started therapy was when the RT figured I needed a constant pressure of 7.5, based on the auto titiration I had the previous week. I had one of the worst headaches of my life after that night, and contacted the clinic telling them I refused to go on till I spoke to a doctor.

I then got another RT, a trial on a different auto at 4-8 --- and to this very day 3 year later have never needed (nor been able to tolerate) a fixed pressure of 7.5. On other hand, I'm doing fine on a very narrow range between 6 and 8, touching 7.5 and or 8 sometimes.

The point being that small changes in pressure can make a big change in how you feel .

I'm not saying "don't change your own pressure" I do it with mine. I am saying: it should be done based on info - and maybe the doc has info that will clarify things.

Thanks for the feedback O. Good info in there.

Maybe I'll try 7 tonight, just to see what the difference is. But I know I have trouble breathing when the pressure is too low on the ramp-up (like 4), because the CO2 doesn't get evacuated quickly enough.

Hi

The Resmed machines often show slightly above the set pressure. Someone once explained it as being due to increasing the pressure slightly to overcome leaks, which sounds logical enough. Also I suspect that there are rounding issues on the onscreen data.

jddqr if you're pulling your mask off and taking big breaths I doubt that your pressure is too high at 8.

It works...

Post by jddqr » Thu Mar 13, 2008 10:33 am

Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle. Last night I set the pressure to 7 and

Pressure: 7.2
Leak: 0.10
AI: 3.2
HI: 5.3
AHI: 8.5

and I feel much better!

So the question becomes, should I continue the trend and try 6 tonight, or just let it stabilize at 7 for a week?
