I don't have any irritation at all from the (size medium) nose pillows of the Swift. I don't need to use any gel etc. The pillows just gently rest there. Comfortably. I think the Aura is extremely comfortable, too, but the dang thing just leaks like crazy (won't stay in place). Also the Aura created tremendous rainout for me, even with insulated hose, heated humifier. Maybe now that warmer weather is coming on, that would diminish.

How did Rested Gal rig up the deconstructed Aura? I guess I'll look up her postings and see what I can find....

OK, I think I found RG's deconstructor fix for the Aura

Has anybody else tried this and are there any other suggestions before I go get the saw to chop this Aura of mine apart? RG, I don't have anything to lose so I'm gonna go for it. Thanks for the great description! Probably will wait until Friday when hubby gets home...

I've used the Swift every night now for a month and have no nostril soreness at all, seals great and very comfortable.

I never use the Aura either; it leaks terribly and won't stay in place. The only reason they say that it should not be used with an Auto is that they haven't tested it with one. Currently, Aieomed does not market an Autopap although that will change in the future. For those that can us it, that's great.

Here's my 'nother reason for liking the nasal pillows (mine being a Swift). If I am at all stuffy nosed (especially on one side) and thinking I won't be able to breathe well on CPAP, as soon as the air pressure comes on, breathing becomes easy. This is not so much the case with my Activa nasal mask as even though it's pressurized, the air travels the path of least resistance and up one nostril instead of both. So another vote for the Swift (don't know if my explanation is clear ...) I rarely have to use nasal saline spray or Flonase. never gel.

i get some nostril soreness with my swift, but I think it's a matter of not over-tightening it.

I've also noticed I need to be more careful about side sleeping or i end up pushing it in such a way that air blows up into my eye, and I have a leaky eye all the next day.

AYR Nasal Saline Gel is a great way to keep the inside of your nares from getting irritated. You can find it at WalMart, and most drug stores.

Artwood wrote:Forgive me if this question has been answered before. What are the benefits of each? I'm thinking mainly three different areas: 1)comfort 2) leaks and 3) how well each works with auto pap? I'm using Breeze awith C-FLEX Auto PAP and it's working OK--would it be worth trying anything else?
to ARTWOOD: i can't speak for the aura or breeze but i have had two res-med swifts so i can give you my insight on this interface! i along with many others on this site have had many different masks-so here goes:

1--comfort-the most comfrotable of any mask i have had to date! it is very light 2.5oz aprox., is easy to put on and take off once adjusted, the air-feed tube can be worn down or up over the head. i like it over my head and out of the way. i secure it with the velcro tab on my right because i don't sleep on my right side other wise it would blow on my wife! so i am very comfortable with it when i sleep on my back or when i sleep on my left side.
2--leaks-there are NO leaks with this nasal pillows mask! it is a very well made mask easy to take apart to clean etc, the mask is secure and has a simple but well thought out design (simpler is better). i think others on this site like it also and i beleive it was rock & roll who gave some good info on how to adjust it for a light touch of the contact of the nasal pillows on your nostrals etc., so read the entire site and links for info from all the other GREAT peaple on this site who are trying to help others. you don't have to worry about sizing as you know it comes with 3 sizes. the med. works best for me (never a leak) and i can also use the large for a change of pace also with NO LEAKS! the small will probably fit alot of ladies and some men with smaller nostrals, i assume also w/no leaks!
3--how well etc-i use it with a remstar auto cpap and it works great and it is very quiet both the machine and mask! as far as cpap machines go the respironics remstar auto with c-flex and w/heated humidifier is the greatest thing since sliced bread as far as i am concerned! my other two machines were both fixed pressure 18 cm H2o. over 11 years the first was noisy , the second (much improved over the years) was a PB420 which i still use for travel also very quiet but basic & fixed pressure. now remstar - the best of all worlds!!!! note: i have had several breeze masks w/dream seal and they were pretty good but prone to break!

i hope the above info (personal opinions) helps you and others! if you need any other info. just ask, i or others will HELP YOU!
