I meant a soft copy as in a PDF file. It's not for the S8II though - only the original S8. The S8II isn't available on the web yet.

Well, I sure do appreciate the offer, BigK. But, like I say, I have a printed out copy here somewhere to the Elite. Just gotta get off my duff and round them all up. And find a permenent place for them where they are easily accessible (and remembered).

I have the Auto Vantage, and if I press the start and hold it down, it goes through the mask fit and says "excellent". If I play with it and cause leaks, it goes from excellent to poor. If I put it back on right, the "excellent" comes back on, and the high pressure continues. I don't know what the pressure is, as it doesn't say, but its way to high for my liking. How can you tell its 10 cm?

Ha! I don't remember what I did to get the 10 cms show up briefly. I think I quickly released and then pressed the Start button as soon as the machine started and the Mask Fit appeared in the screen. It only showed very briefly and then went back to Mask Fit.

Thanks for jumping in and telling us. I'll have to go play around w/it some more after we eat supper. Or dig thru the books and boxes here to find where I put those manuals. BIG MISTAKE to decide to paint this 'puter room again.

OK From the clinicians manual...

Mask Fit

When the device is in AutoSet mode, the mask-fit pressure is the 95th centile pressure of the previous treatment session, or 10cmH2O, whichever is greater.

When the device is in CPAP mode, the mask-fit pressure is the set treatment pressure, or 10cmH2O, whichever is greater.

Further

When using the mask-fit feature, the star rating values are indicative of the instantaneous leak calculated over the last 10 seconds.

Smart Data (designed for the patient) also uses a star rating for mask fit. The smart data star rating values correspond to 70th centile mask leak for the last session. A five-star rating is displayed for example if the leak rate was less than 0.10 L/s for 70% of the session.

Playing with mask fit won't affect any stored numbers.

Anything that happens while the xPAP is in ramp or settling won't either.

Thank you, BigK! I'm NOT losing my mind! I DID see 10 cms on the LED screen (and I sure can tell the difference between 8cms and 10 cms of pressure!! HARD for me to exhale against!). And I DID read something I was only vaguely remembering in that manual! I'm NOT as senile as I was beginning to wonder that I was! Ahhhhh.

I'm on the s8 Elite CPAP and have been wondering about the effects of trying to get to sleep on my high AHI. Since I just started treatment, It'll take me a little while to save up for the software.

It looks like using mask fit, settling, or ramp could help equalize the numbers. I know what mask fit and ramp are, but what is the settling feature? Is it an s8 feature?

Settling time is a period in which the S8 will not score your breathing. This should normally set for the approcximate amount of amount of time it takes you to fall asleep after you start PAP treatment, so that non-autonomous breathing events are not scored.

Cheers,

Bill

Settling is to APAP what Ramp is to CPAP.

Settling gives you x minutes at a lower pressure before increasing therapy.

Also what Bill said.

Is settling at a lower pressure? Or is it just a period where the machine just pumps at your minimum pressure and does not record data?

Colin

Settling pressure on an APAP is the lowest pressure your machine is set for. The default is 4cmH2O (Maximum default is 20cmH2O). So at the default, the settling pressure will be 4cmH2O - most people increase this as it's difficult to breathe at 4cm

Its at whatever flow rate has been set as the starting flow rate in the APAP parameters.

The basic message about settling time is that since the S8 isn't scoring events during that time, it has no data to act on in terms of APAP flow rate changes that might result from events (though it will still do automatic flow rate adjustments for leakage etc.)

Cheers,

Bill
