I don't know, I never have gotten a bill. And it has been almost a year since the first night study and 3 months since the titration. I know that they billed the insurance but I haven't seen anything as far as a breakdown.

Sleep study cost

Post by LuvRedDogs » Thu Dec 06, 2007 9:09 pm

First night was $2166.00 after the "adjustment". Second night with cpap was $2384.00 after "adjustment". I work at the hospital and all procedures we have done at our facility are covered 100%. It is good that we are covered but, it still is charged against our insurance and that takes a chunk out of our 1 million dollar maximum.
If it was done anywhere else they would have whittled that amount down before paying any other provider.

$3,616 and I had to pay for every penny of it.

I had a $7,250 deductible.
Now I have a $5,250 deductible. *ouch

I HAD my SLEEP STUDY done at home and only had 5 wires hooked to my body ! They charged my BC Ins.: Sleep Study $2,100.00 - Insurance paid $667.53. Titration ( I had to go and pick the machine up myself) was: $910.00 - Insurance paid $560.00. There are numerous other charges in there that are only listed by codes (I have NO idea what they mean or what they are for) and I have called several times treying to find out and they always seem to change the subject and or forget to send me the codes, charges, and what they all mean ! I bought my Remstar AUTO cpap, HH, & Swift 11 mask with a credit card because the dme said that NO INS. CO. pays for an AUTO (it's considered COMFORT) and Ins. Co.'s won't pay for COMFORT! However, i'm sure they chg'd my Ins. for maybe a Remstar Pro and I only got 1 mask from them and I THINK they charged the Ins. for (3) ! They had the nerve to send me a bill for 611.00 and I called them and said I shouldn't owe anything that I should actually have a CREDIT as I payed for my own machine, mask & HH out of my own pocket in full and LOW & BEHOLD, she brought those charges DOWN to $210.00 so I got that check in the mail yesterday, I figured I better not argue the point any further as she could bring the charges back up up up if she really wanted to, they are crooks! I will go to another place if I ever have to have another sleep study! The one my husband is going to charger $1,600.00 for ( THE SLEEP STUDY & TITRATION) and said they do both of them on the same night , unreal !

I have been fighting the same battle for the last several weeks.

My co-pay came back at over $1000. The total cost was like $7900, but BC/BS's contracted price was $6800 ($3200 for first night and $3500 for second night). My payment is 20%.

I am VERY frustrated, especially because I had two colleages on the same insurance (same paid deductable, everything) and they paid less than $300 for their co-pay a little over a year ago. I do not understand the difference. I have called everyone I can think of to ask why it was so much, and why the difference. The insurance blames the sleep center, the sleep center blames insurance and rising costs. No one will give me a straight answer. I have no options left but to pay it. VERY FRUSTRATING!

Add to this my CPAP rental totalling $350 over 10 months, and this has been an expensive ordeal. It is worth it, as I am sleeping better than I have in years, but I went into it with a completely different understanding of the costs based on my colleages expereince.

Maybe they had met their DEDUCTIBLE and you hadn't at that time, could that be the case? If not, I would contact BC and ask them WHY!

Yeah, that was the first thing I asked them. We all had our deductable paid. The only hint of an answer I got was that "Hospital prices increase and decrease like gas prices"...not sure about that one

sleep study

Post by alv7722 » Fri Dec 07, 2007 5:53 pm

In my opiniion, this specialty is fraught with greed and incompetence. My original sleep study was 1400, I was scheduled for another for "titration". My situation got so bad, I was going to lose my job, have an auto accident, or die, before I would have got help, not to mention the hardship of another 1400 out of pocket for no good reason. I begged the doctor for an emergency prescriptionf for an auto titrating machine, with complete indifference. I got a machine through a vendor on Craigs list, without an Rx, and am improving every night. that doctor would rather have seen me dead than forego the "protocol" for his $1400. My sleep doctor has since fired me, rather than working with me to use the info from the machine. I think they should get rid of the prescription requirements.

Around $3000. Insurance paid 90% and I paid the other 10%.

cost to insurance company

Post by lifeartist59 » Sat Dec 08, 2007 12:13 am

My insurance company sent a statement that they covered the study, which cost $4,800.00. That seemed like an awful lot to me, especially since I was told I would need a new one every time I lost or gained weight, and at the minimum every two years. No wonder insurance in USA is so costly. I really had a problem with this cost, and I am hoping that by using an auto machine I can avoid some of the retesting. Any thoughts?

I live in Atlanta and don't have insurance at the moment. The local hospital told me that I would need a 2 night study, no negotiation, and that it would be about $10,000 total. My doc hooked me up at a local, private sleep lab. I was able to do a split study, and it only cost me $600, which I can pay monthly. They also told me that if I was able to pay in advance, they would knock off $100.
The unbelievable difference in prices really gets under my skin. No wonder insurance premiums are ridiculous.

I do not remember what my insurance paid back in 96, but O am sure iot was less than today.

I do know how much my cousin paid though.
He is very poor without insurance and no way for a study.
His mom told me about his condition and I invited him down and hookoed him up to m remstar apap- 6 16 and got lots of apneas.
I GAVE him my backup machine set to 12 and a spare mask.
Cost him nothing and he is doing great.

I Know this was a no no, but I did what I thought was right.
