Besides that and because of it's size, I could see them requiring you to "gate check" it on some of the smaller planes I fly on that fly into some pretty small airports.
Trying to convince them that it should be carry-on would be futile because it just might NOT fit into the small overhead bins.
I would not want to even chance that my APAP would be out of my control for the duration of the flight.
Actually with the tiny airlines it (to me at least) would be like putting it in the trunk of the car. So I think I would be willing to check it.
Just a thought.

I agree that gate checking MIGHT be a tad better than just checking it in at the counter.
But the SAME people are the ones that are putting the gate checked luggage into the plane. Would you want THEM putting your luggage into your trunk?

FYI this poll was first published in 2005...
Given the current activity I wonder if the results have changed since then. Personally, though, I've been quite happy with the provided bag ... the only time it wouldn't be sufficient is if I wanted to carry a battery too.

I'm looking for a bag (strictly for car travel) that will fit my cpap case with everything in it, my head pillow (cpapmax which is 21" x 13"), my mask, heated hose, extension cord, sterile wipes, and a small bottle of distilled water. I would like something that is a valise style, in other words something that is wider then tall, and will allow me to store the water bottle upright inside it.
Any ideas?
If not, then would the bag that John linked to have room to hold the cpapmax pillow?

Great find chunkyfrog!
I had a connecting flight through O'Hare in mid August & I'd swear I've seen those same 2 baggage handlers there.
It may just be the quality of those 3 YouTube videos.
But, if not, Dave Carroll may be the worst lip syncher there is!
I've been to Nova Scotia (including Halifax) many many years ago.
Pretty laid back people. Guess Dave had a lot of time on his hands.

It's odd this thread just popped up all of a sudden from years ago, by the moderator?
The bag Respironics provides for the System One machine(s) is ok, not great. The biggest problem aside from the thin padding is that it is not very clear where a lot of the items are supposed to be placed, aside from the actual blower/humidifier.
It would be extremely helpful if they had provided a picture or something to indicate the best way to properly pack the hose, power brick, masks, etc. It would make loading it a lot easier, faster, and less prone to damage. I have seen pictures of the ResMed S9 bag and it seemed a lot easier to pack, in a more straightforward manner.

Threads that contain a poll are often resurrected with no accompanying post if someone just happens to find the poll and participates in the poll by making a selection.
Making a selection on a poll triggers the same response as if someone had typed a comment in a thread. The thread goes right back to the top of the main forum page.
One doesn't have to type a reply to trigger the going to the front of the line again placement.
The moderator had nothing to do with it.

it is strange how these things pop up. in my opinion it all comes down to ensuring proper funding for realistic best solution for all we can try to include. whats available is available for reasons no one truly understands unless they ever occur being truly desperate. sorry guys, but MOST people, (some) MOST people not reliant on a device such as CPAP, such as maybe a small baby with prader willi syndrome, or spinal muscular atrophy. however i suppose though most have never even heard of such a horror in first place, then to actually live it is a different story. however those of us that even maintain privelage to be able to access this forum may not understand some how places those diagnosis may never even be treatable because they will never diagnosed............so, if you shop around, and chose an extra carry on bag, you are enabling others from not even having a trunk to put anything in. i suppose you just have to wait around for a visit from a friend who can continue to guide you. or a pop up message.

I've been traveling quite a bit by airline this year. I would not trust my CPAP (at least in its Respironics soft case, or a typical soft sided carry-on bag) to the checked baggage handling system.
Sometimes I think it would be nice to have one fewer bag, but even if I could squeeze my CPAP machine into my current carry-on, there have been enough times where I have had to check my carry-on (either gate check, due to small regional jet, or gate check because all the overheads are already full) that I now believe I am better off having the separate CPAP bag with the medical device bag exclusion rule in my favor.

I have a Lowe's camera case, rolling, which works very nicely -- CPAP plus humidifier, masks, hoses, all power cords, in the compartment. It would take my Hozer, too, except the pieces are like a quarter inch too long....
What model case are you using?
I have this one.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003X1 ... UTF8&psc=1
I will note that the case John is recommending is actually less than the one I got. OTOH, this one does come apart into two cases -- the second one is a compartmentalized one for carrying camera lenses in. For me, it works great for carrying all the small bottles of various supplements and/or medications my husband and I use. Keeps it organized and really helpful.
I'll see if I can find some pix of the case in action, and THEN see if I can find my account to upload them.

I travel all over with my very expensive sewing machine using a Tutto "machine on wheels". They make a small one that might be a perfect carry on cpap bag. They fold to about 3" and when I am not travelling, I can use it to stow my little sewing machine to get to class.

For the little I travel I might still consider this bag but would probably put the cpap in a bag inside the compartment for easy removal. Just last week I had my second cpap in 2 years ruined by baggage handlers. Problematic since my prescription is so old it will not be honored by anyone that makes repairs. This last, I watched as my ramp checked bag was thrown to the ground and another bag tossed on top of it. Which reminds me, I need to write a letter to US Airways since they would do nothing about it at the time.

I bought the Rick Steves Avanti carry on to carry my CPAP so I didn't have to schlep it over my shoulder all the time. I bought it specifically because it said it would fit under the seat. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. But it is considerably smaller and lighter than most rolling caryons, and works well for what I need. I don't know why they discontinued it, but I found it's still for sale here:

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.
