Travelling with CPAP
Hello People
I use a travel bag as well as I am often taking my CPAP overnight as I travel around alot. I Keep a spare mask and I putting a cushion which is a stuffed toy of"thomas the tank engine" It help protect the cpap from slight bumps and knocks.
I take my hose and extra power leads as other hotel or houses have power socket which a good distance from the bed. So packing extra power leads is must! I take a power board with several sockets and a surge arrested to protect the CPAP machine from deal unwanted power surges.

Been on CPAP for a while.....I had moderate apenoa
I am on the road quite a lot and so far I have placed my CPAP in checked baggage. I know that's dangerous, but I am very careful to wrap the machine in bubble wrap, place it in it's case, and then pad it very good in the suitcase. So far, no problems. I told my wife tonight, before seeing this post, that I might try it as a carry-on for my return trip tomorrow. It is just so much trouble getting through airport security, on and off the plane and rental car shuttle buses, that I try to limit what I carry. I have to carry a computer bag loaded with stuff that weighs a ton. I was thinking of getting a hard case of some type to pack the CPAP in and check it that way. I really think I would be more interested in something like that than carry-on luggage. Besides, the case it came in should work fine as carry-on. I guess I will find out just how well it works tomorrow!

Over the years I have traveled extensively for work, including internationally, and I honestly don't understand the concern with packing your CPAP in a checked bag. As long as it's a good sturdy one. If you have soft sided luggage then yeah, you may be taking a risk.
I empathise with you on the carry-on issue. With brief cases/computers and other needed carry-ons having to hassle with the CPAP would put me over the top. I'd pack it inside a good solid suit case and check it. Unless you plan to fire it up while napping during your flight

The design is fine except it would be better if the padding was better if you traveled much at all.Wuzer wrote:The bag my remstar pro came with is perfect. Can't imagine a better design.

Re: Specialty CPAP Travel Bag/Carry On
By the way, if you are willing to pay the cost, I had found a carry on bag that is designed to handle most CPAP units:
http://www.ezeinnovations.com/shop/eze- ... ge-system/

I no longer travel enough to warrant purchase of this luggage. But if I was still traveling as I once did, I would probably purchase it.
Oh, and I have no association / connection with the company that makes this. It's just a good design that I had found.

Re: Specialty CPAP Travel Bag/Carry On
The problem I see with this is that this may be counted as your one and only carry on. If you were carrying the CPAP in a separate case, it could be considered as a medical device and you would be allowed a carry on in addition. Because you have other items besides medical devices in this unit, the airline may not consider it as a medical device.

That might be an issue, but in all honesty I've always found the airline personnel fairly decent if you treat them reasonably. If an airline was to ban carry on luggage (such as due to a full flight), they would probably allow this with the CPAP device in it. But always take the time to be personable with the personnel. It almost always makes it easier.LSAT wrote:The problem I see with this is that this may be counted as your one and only carry on. That's a pretty neat design. If I were going to be flying a good bit, it would be seriously worthwhile. Then again, it might be nice to cut down on what I take when we go by car.JohnBFisher wrote:By the way, if you are willing to pay the cost, I had found a carry on bag that is designed to handle most CPAP units:

I have a Lowe's camera case, rolling, which works very nicely -- CPAP plus humidifier, masks, hoses, all power cords, in the compartment. It would take my Hozer, too, except the pieces are like a quarter inch too long....

I know the person behind this design. Re: Specialty CPAP Travel Bag/Carry On
I had noted that. It's one of the reasons I thought it was a good product. Like I say, if I was still traveling, I would probably buy one. It has space for work material (computer and files). It has space for the xPAP device and chargers and hoses. It's designed to take apart quickly (but keep stuff together) for screening. A good design, plus they seem to want to do the right thing. Impressive!msla wrote:... I know the person behind this design. He donates a portion to the profits ...

Re: Specialty CPAP Travel Bag/Carry On
I use a hard plastic box from walmart to protect my unit with snap on lid. The box is 12x12x10 inches -it travels well in my truck and protects the machine. It also has room for my glock and 17 rounds. . I won't fly anymore so I haven't dealt with that .
The tub is the cpap stand by the bed and can be used to clean the gear inside of a bathtub as is my custom . I take several of these for different purposes when I go for a week or more.
I don't carry water near the unit but i always have bottled drinking water with me , tap water would be fine in the humidifier for a couple of weeks.
I just want to keep the minimum all together so it can run when I get there. At home I have another with all the extra filters ,masks ,couplers, hoses etc.
I defiantly want my mask and machine in a hard case. Mine only came with a bag.

Re: Specialty CPAP Travel Bag/Carry On
Besides that and because of it's size, I could see them requiring you to "gate check" it on some of the smaller planes I fly on that fly into some pretty small airports.LSAT wrote:The problem I see with this is that this may be counted as your one and only carry on. Trying to convince them that it should be carry-on would be futile because it just might NOT fit into the small overhead bins.
I would not want to even chance that my APAP would be out of my control for the duration of the flight.
