download error...Please help!
hi all
if it's not one thing, it's another
i've had my data capable machine for a week now, and i've been happily downloading away; also using encore pro analyzer
yesterday, when i put my card in the reader, the light stayed red, and i was getting an error message
i unplugged everything and tried again, changing the reader to a usb hub, which seemed to help
tried to download and there seemed to be no problem extracting the data, but then it wouldn't save to pdf, print or let me view the report...error message again
any ideas? incidentally, the data still showed up on epa
thanks
sharon

Sharon,
I haven't had that problem, or any with data cards.... YET.
It sounds like some problem with your EP installation, and not the card itself. But I could be wrong on that. To be sure try the tips below.
I suggest that you get the FREE CardUtility from http://www.mycpap.org It's a very small application that is great. It works independently from EP. It has a tiny footprint, is reliable, safe and extremely useful.
It allows:
1. Save of card data to a .bin file of only 32KB no matter how much therapy data is on the card.
2. Restore data to card from any saved .bin file of your previously saved .bin file therapy data.
3. Format card to salvage corrupted cards.
Put your card in the reader and start the CardUtility application, and pick or make a folder where you want to save your therapy .bin files. Then select Save Card To PC. Check to be sure that the date-named 32KB file is in the place where you saved to. You can add to the pre-selected .bin file name or change it to suit.
Then select Format Card.
After formatting the card.... select Restore Card From PC. Then try viewing and using the card data again in EP.
I hope that'll resolve the problem. If it doesn't, have your computer here by 0800 tomorrow and I'll resolve the problems. (Ok, so I jest. But the helpful thought was there.)

Sharon,
Before you go erasing your card, I would try another USB port (make sure it's one that's connected to your motherboard. Don't connect through a hub.
Have you re-booted your system? You might try that with the card in the reader at the time it boots up. (that's the way I do it in the mornings)
If you try a different port and it "discovers" a new device.....go ahead and let it do the card reader installation again.

i originally had it plugged directly into the tower; until i unplugged it from the usb port on the tower and plugged it into the hub it wouldn't even READ the card; the light stayed red on the reader ; once i rebooted, plugged it into the hub and re-installed the reader, it seemed to be reading the card
i insert the card, the light goes from red to green; in "smartcard utilities" i choose "download data"Sharon,
WHAT specific error were you getting?
Den
it says "extracting data from smartcard"
then it says, " updating database"
then it asks what i want to do, and i choose the "save as pdf" option
it goes to the page showing my folder, and when i hit save the error message pops up saying "an error has occurred while downloading data from smartcard; error source Respironics SmartCard 2
i'm so green, den, i don't have the first idea what any of this means...is it odd that epa is still reading the data, though?
thanks

The CardUtility from http://www.mycpap.org doesn't destroy the data if you select Save Card To PC. It saves all the card data to a .bin file wherever you want to save it to on your PC. Then you can select Format Card and do a complete card format. Then select Restore Card From PC to reinstall the data you saved back onto the card. Nothing is lost, but you get to format the card and have your data too. The CardUtility is a valuable accessory that works independent of Encore Pro and the MSSQL.

Hey Sharon,
I was having a similar problem a couple weeks ago. I just ignored it for a week and tried it again and it started working.
It was different though, as it wouldn't put the data into the database and the error code had to do with timing....so it was with the SQL DB (I'm guessing as it fixed itself)
When you tell it to put it into a .pdf file doesn't it give you the option of doing nothing??? If so, that's what I normally do. Then I open the report for that date period from the list and save it to the .pdf from there.....
I may be confusing the issue, but.......I'm sure Wulf or someone will have a better answer than mine!!!!!
good luck!!!!
cheers

I've downloaded two versions of it, but haven't gotten around to trying anything with it, yet.

I keep two (2) new, spare cards as just- in-case replacements. I always save my card data as a patient into Encore Pro and the database first, as seen on the “Patient Interaction List.” I never set EP to automatically save when it reads the data from the card.
In “Preferences” – “System Settings”, in “Default Download Complete Action” I select “Do Nothing.” I do manual saves from “File” and “PDF Export” in “Report Viewer.” Thus far, I haven’t had any problems at all with data-saving, corrupted data or error codes popping up. I mean, yet.
I also save the entire card data with CardUtility 1.04 to a .bin file each time the card is read, daily. That way a corrupted card or data won’t cause me to lose everything. Just the one day of data when the card or data corrupted. Really great is that CardUtility saves all of the card data to an always 32KB .bin file -- very much smaller than the EP .xml Patient Export file.
You can save the entire Patient data set from within EP by selecting "Export Patient"," but that saves to a .xml file which can be quite huge when you get months of data accumulated.

I'm a little confused as to what you have written. (but I don't have 1.8 installed on my computers)sharon1965 wrote:den

This is from the instructions that "Sleepy-in-AL" wrote for the 1.6 version.
62. You should now be on the patient homepage for the patient you just entered. On the left side, select "Download Data" from the "Interactions" group. Then click on "SmartCard Reader".
63. Accept defaults for "Referring Physician", "PCP", "Clinician", and date and select "Yes" the smart card is going to be returned to the same patient. Click "OK"
64. If you receive a warning that the SmartCard doesn't match the patient, select the appropriate response to continue downloading
65. If you have properly run the "Don't Erase data after downloading.reg" mentioned above, you will be asked if you want to erase the SmartCard. Select "No" to preserve the information on the card.
66. From here, you can view the downloaded data or exit encorepro and go to MyEncore. To skip to MyEncore, jump to step 70. Otherwise keep going here to view your detailed EncorePro data.
67. Double click on the date in the "Interaction List" in the middle of the screen under "Patient Compliance." To see meaningful details instead of just compliance data, select the radio button next to "Full Details" in the Report Options dialog then click "OK"
68. You should now have a "Report Viewer" window. At the top of this window, there are buttons to change the view and page up and down through the report. From the file menu, you can export the report in a number of formats including PDF and HTML.
69. When you are through here, you can close the "Report Viewer" and close "encore pro".
.
.
.
(Qualifier - the part about running the "Don't Erase data after downloading.reg" thing would not apply in 1.8.....nor would the MyEncore commentary)
.
Does this look like the procedures you're using?
At what point is the problem occurring?

Den,
I agree, but eliminating the card from the equation as a problem is far faster and ultimately safer than possibly doing reinstalls of programs, drivers etc. Windows only tolerates so many removes and reinstalls of programs before it chokes on leftover program files and goes comatose. I always try to eliminate the exterior variables first before going Win-Registry deep with changes.

Wulfman...
She shouldn't have to reinstall the Encore Pro program.
It may want to install the cardreader driver if she plugs it into a USB port that's on a different "root".....but that's no big deal. After about 2 years of dealing with one of my "flakey" ports, I finally got to experimenting with mine and tried different ports until I found one that was consistent.
It did go through the driver installation again, but that was not a big deal.
