I posted earlier that I had two really good nights, but my machine didn't pick up the data. I "think" I did better, but I couldn't get any numbers to prove it.

Last night I used the Peace (lavendar) fragrance, which is my fav. The data was picked up on my card this time. I was very happy! I had ONE apnea episode of 9 seconds. ONE! Zero Hypopneas. Now, I'm going to have to let this run out for a week or so to see if it is a lasting trend, but ONE apnea!

Is there a clinical reason that the use of EOs would lower AHI?
Now that's a question I'm going to be able to answer some day. Pedroski noted the same thing on the pur-sleep thread way back when and I've asked him to weigh in here.

It might have something to do with the fact that lavender in particular has some interesting qualities with respect to sleep. The abstract from a recent human study states:

"Aromatherapy is an anecdotal method for modifying sleep and mood. However, whether olfactory exposure to essential oils affects night-time objective sleep remains untested. Previous studies also demonstrate superior olfactory abilities in women. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of an olfactory stimulus on subsequent sleep and assessed gender differences in such effects. Thirty-one young healthy sleepers (16 men and 15 women, aged 18 to 30 yr, mean±SD, 20.5±2.4 yr) completed 3 consecutive overnight sessions in a sleep laboratory: one adaptation, one stimulus, and one control night (the latter 2 nights in counterbalanced order). Subjects received an intermittent presentation (first 2 min of each 10 min interval) of an olfactory (lavender oil) or a control (distilled water) stimulus between 23:10 and 23:40 h. Standard polysomnographic sleep and self-rated sleepiness and mood data were collected. Lavender increased the percentage of deep or slow-wave sleep (SWS) in men and women. All subjects reported higher vigor the morning after lavender exposure, corroborating the restorative SWS increase. Lavender also increased stage 2 (light) sleep, and decreased rapid-eye movement (REM) sleep and the amount of time to reach wake after first falling asleep (wake after sleep onset latency) in women, with opposite effects in men. Thus, lavender serves as a mild sedative and has practical applications as a novel, nonphotic method for promoting deep sleep in young men and women and for producing gender-dependent sleep effects."

Okay. I just got mine three days ago and can't believe how much it's helping me sleep. I hadn't even heard much about aromatherapy until this came up on the forum. I used to wake up in the middle of the night and just couldn't stand to put the mask back on so I'd sleep on my side. After 2 years I didn't sleep all night with my cpap until three nights ago. I slept all night straight through and had that rested feeling in the morning. I haven't felt like that in years. WOW! I am totally sold on this! I am actually looking forward to going to bed now. Its so relaxing to smell a hint of orange or mint through that mask.

So far I've tried clear and spice and love them both. I don't like flowery smells that much but will probably try the peace in a day or two.

I'm definitely going to tell my doctor and RT about this one

Bret -

Did I read somewhere that you had changed the oil mixture for some of your products from the original version of the Pur-Sleep?

That's right, based on feedback and further research. Right now the formula for Clear and Spice has changed. Some of the others will change slightly in the future. "New and Improved" IMHO.

Can you again tell us what changes were made ... how does the new clear and spice differ from the old?

Thanks.

I've used mine for a few days, all with the "clear scent"

Clear is the scent I liked the best. I may try "spice", but hated "peace"

It does seem to help me fall asleep faster, but I've been waking up more. Don't know if they are related, but thats whats been happening.

I'm also waking up more congested, but I believe that is because allergy season in Virginia is still in high swing, and several people I know have been more congested in the last few days.

I had another great night with the system and want to restate a suggestion to sleepguy.

When I went to choose a scent to "spend the night with" I picked up a bottle of "Deep" I couldn't remember what was in it. My computer was already shut down and I couldn't go to the website to see the fragrance combo in Deep. A listed description of all the oils (which I own from the first system) would be a really nice addition to your kits. I just went to your website and copied the description for each oil and printed a sheet for myself to keep in the box with the oils.

It would also be helpful for people who are pregnant (and need to avoid specific essential oils) or experience a reaction to any particular scent to have a list to refer to.

I think this is a great idea, one that will be implemented once time and resources permit. Thanks for the suggestion.

What?? Sleep Guy, you're actually implementing suggestions from customers?? Why, that's darn near HERESY in these days and times!!! LOLOL

Seriously, the fact that you stopped production for a while and researched the claims about your product in its initial form was one of the major things that first attracted me to your products. When I read all the initial concerns, I actually rolled my eyes and thought "Sheesh, what is wrong with all these folks making these wild, unsupported claims??" And then, you voluntarily withdrew your product, did the research necessary, rethought your idea and now we have Pur Sleep in its present form. Plus you've been listening to the suggestions here, such as 3 pads in a starter kit, using a ziplock bag, etc. Pretty darn impressive, Sleep Guy. Add in the fact that your products WORK!!!! and wowzers!!

Keep up the great work and keep the Pur Sleep improving and coming!

Thanks.

Kajun

I have been using my Purr-sleep everynight and I really tend to go for the Paradise , Clear & Peace. Mostly the first 2. I don't know if I sleep deeper really but I feel like it.
I only have one complaint about the system and I guess it can't be avoided.
The cord for my ResMed S8 Elite is right under the intake and I have to wedge the tray under there and it is inconvenient. Half the time my pad ends up out of the tray. To bad we can't come up with a little spool or something that could velcro right to the cord!
Not complaining....just brainstorming!

I traveled for the first time with my A-Flex and decided to bring my Pur-Sleep. I couldn't imaging not using it just because I was visiting someone's home. I asked each person if they would mind if I used the Peace (letting them smell it) and got an OK from each. I'm so glad I did as I had a good nights sleep even on a hard flat bed. I'm buying them a pillow topper for Christmas : )

BRET, WHAT KIND OF CHANGES DID YOU MAKE TO CLEAR AND SPICE. I LOVED THEM THE WAY THEY WERE- IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT. BY THEY WAY I REALLY LIKE THE SMELL OF DEEP- I DIDN'T CARE FOR IT THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES I USED IT BUT NOW I LOVE IT. I DON'T LIKE THE SMELL OF COMFORT, TOO EARTHY, BUT IT REALLY KNOCKS ME OUT FOR THE NIGHT, SO I TRIED MIXING IT WITH CREME AND ITS MUCH MORE TOLERABLE. PLEASE DON'T DILUTE THE PEPPERMINT SMELL OF CLEAR TOO MUCH OR DILUTE THE SPICE SMELL. SOME OF US NEED STRONGER SCENTS- I CAN'T SMELL THE WEAKER ONES. PAT
