Sleep Apnea and Sexual Health
Ok everyone be honest........................
I would like to get some sort of idea if treatment for sleep apnea with CPAP improves your libido and ED problems (if you are a man and brave enough to own up, if not I fully understand)?
I have been surfing the web a lot and have found lots of proof that Sleep Apnea causes sexual health problems. And they are finding that CPAP treatment improves or resolves these issues.
With so many users here and so many stories that are alike I was hoping that I could get some kind of feedback in this area.
I have been and always will be a faithful, loving and supportive wife, but I have to be honest and say that the last 6 yrs have been rough. The lack of desire from my DH has been hurtful. But now knowing that the whole time it was medical and treatable makes me want to hurt my DH doctors. UUGGHHH!! I was the one who put all the symptoms together and went with my DH to the Dr and demanded a sleep study.
I should still be a newlywed after only 6 yrs and am excited to be able to start over!!!

There have been some posts on this, and if you search for "libido", these are some that come up:

viewtopic.php?t=15997&highlight=libido
But the question usually gets lots of replies, usually along the lines of "Much better, thank you."

I had an increasing ED problem for 5-10 years. It was extremely upsetting as I could not understand why it was happening. I saw a urologist and he said I was probably anxious! (which I knew I was not)
CPAP dramatically reversed the problem as soon as I was able to tolerate the mask the whole night. Nightly erections during REM was the first sign that things where on the mend. These returned right away with treatment.
I think there is a good chance your husbands problem will improve dramatically with treatment. Its a hard topic to discuss publicly but it sure is a great thing to get back.

jskinner - DH hasn't ever lost his nightly erections. This is what has baffled me for so long. This is why I took the ED problems and lack of desire so personally.
But now that I understand about the lack of oxygen and everything that goes with sleep apnea, I am glad that we have made it this far!!
You are correct, this is a difficult subject to approach, but it is difficult on both the man and the woman, in different ways.
My fingers are crossed! My DH works nights so his titration was during the day, lets just say that things were pretty romantic and good the evening after his sleeping on the CPAP all day.
Looking forward to him being healthy from "Head to Toe" soon!
Thanks for the encouragement!

Yes it does. Not only does OSA have an effect on it but xpap treatment does help.
But also xpap treatment also helps diabetes and high blood pressure. I know from experence.

Confimed CPAP do help the libido
My sleep doctor doing his follow up check up (after 4 months) to evaluate my compliance to CPAP and high blood preasure (I was hypertense). He did asked me how was my sexual libido.
Then we chatted and he mentioned that it is a positive outcome of cpap therapy.
It's obvious, you feel with much more energy!

I knew I could count on you to give me the answer I was looking for, sweety!BrensTiredMom wrote:Can't say anything about ED 'cuz I don't have that equipment...LOL...but I can tell you that things have certainly picked up around here in the 'wanting to' department since I started treatment! Took a couple of weeks, though, so be patient...sounds like you are very patient so that's good!

OK, I'll step up without going into TMI zones.
I had noticed a severe downturn in my libido that coincided in the worsening of the symptoms that sent me to a sleep clinic (LOUD snoring, stopping breating, waking in the middle of the night to urinate, daytime tiredness). I passed it off to being in my 40's.
I've been on CPAP for about 6 months now and I've recently (say last 2 months) noticed an upswing my my libido - bringing it closer to what's 'normal' for me. While it isn't back to what it was, it's getting steadily better so I'm giving credit to the better quality sleep I'm getting.
