If a hose cover (or two) doesn't stop the rainout, here's what I've been using for past three years, with zero rainout:

Wow ! In my case the rain out is not that bad (setting at 3), few drops of water in the hose. Probably location difference, where I am located, is in the tropics, "summer" all year long and humidity is high. I will try M Series without the humidifier later on, having tested other type of CPAP without humidifier before.

Gasp, you using ComfortGel mask, right ? How good is it ?

If you are wondering how good the ComfortGel mask is for condensation, not perfect. I do see moisture between the gel and outer soft interface that sits on my skin, but only when the humidifier is on and I have rain out in the tube. The first night I didn't have condensation - I think I didn't have the humidifier on as no water was gone the next morning : 0 The mask was dry and comfortable on my skin. However, when I have rain out, I feel blasts of tiny droplets through the mask.

I love the ComfortGel for it's soft and gentle touch on my skin. I was given a small, that was too big as it reached the corners of my eyes and touched my upper lip. Today I got the petitie size and when trying it on, see that it properly sits on the bridge of my nose and comes to just under my nose, leaving the area just above my lip free (rather than smashed). Fit is everything! Tonight will be my first night on the new petite mask.

I love that the headgear as it is so adjustable. It's very comfortable and is soft and the fabric has give. I also like the clips that allow quick and easy removal of the mask without disturbing the velcro settings on the gear.

I sleep on my side and the mask works well for me.

If you want to know something I haven't answered her, just let me know. : )

Err, I meant how does it feel or any problems, sorry did not ask specifically. Anyway is great to know it suits you fine. May make a new purchase for a ComfortGel or other mask soon.

aflex

Post by packer » Wed Jun 20, 2007 6:15 am

I have had aflex 10 days now- I like it

I raised the ramp up to 8.5- this seems to feel better than the lower settings to start- I think because the aflex handles your breathing better you dont notice the pressure-

I am back to using Swift because Twilight NP rainout problems- i have humidifier set on 2 with Swift- no problem- when twilight at 2 it has lots of water in it- I prefer the twilight- less leaks etc- but rain is problem. I have a polar fleece hose cover but that doesnt seem to help the Twilight

I have ordered the heated hose and await its arrival- then will try twilight again

Please keep reporting on the Aflex machine. I use a straight cpap with no data reporting. I am considering to buy an AFlex with my own money. My budget is tight and I don't want to make a mistake.

Thank you.

AFLEX WORTH IT?

Post by packer » Thu Jun 21, 2007 6:24 am

how to answer your question?? hmm? [ I dont know your circumstances, pocketbook etc}
so- a resounding probably !

here is my situation- yes I definitely like it better, it is easier to deal with for me and makes it easier to breath. I LIKE how the clex part works- somehow I think the cflex part - exhale- is better on aflex than on the tank. thats the biggest plus for me-
I had a lot of trouble when I first started, had a cheapy that DME dumped on me because I didnt know any better, So I fought my way to getting apap- it was better but I had old used one smelled like cig smoke- then after a LOT more fight with DME and insurance I got new DME and a new tank- and it worked better and smelled better- I was going to keep it but was reading here all the time and heard of new aflex so talked new DME into letting me try it- I am first one through them with it- it is definitely better

rest of story of course is mask- I had full face at first and was going to quit- then first DME gave me a Nasal aire II- better but I didnt like it- then I got swift 1- much better and i really was doing pretty well- then I got twilight NP and it was great- leaks way down etc- then weather changed and it started raining real bad so I went back to swift-

I am awaiting heated hose delivery so I can use twilight with new aflex- I have high hopes for that combo

so- thats my story- it is of course complicated in this hosehead business!- but yes if you can afford it get new aflex- I am not very rich or poor - if I had to make choice I would buy this out of pocket
hope that all helped packer
ps- you need version 1.8 with new aflex- another story as you probably know

Comfort Gel

It feels a bit heavy on the face - but also very soft on the skin. I tried a mask that had just a silicon interface, no gel or lily soft piece that covers the gel, and the plastic just sat on my skin - a bit hard.

The only problem I have is fit. I need a smaller size than the small and a larger size than the petite. They advertise a fit for everyone, but for me, this isn't true.

Small: Too tall from bridge of nose to upper lip - width is fine.
Petite: Just right from bridge of nose to upper lip - width too narrow (pushes the side of my nose in - can't breath : )

The forehead piece is very comfortable as it spreads out the pressure across a soft baffled piece of silicon.

I'm boiling it this weekend for a customized fit. Maybe I can get the part that presses into my eyes and upper lip to move away a bit.

Re: 1st night went well on A-Flex

Post by Patrick A » Thu Jun 21, 2007 5:02 pm

[quote="gasp"]I usually have to get up 3-5 times a night. Last night I only got up once to go to the bathroom and then woke earlier than usual in the morning. When I woke up for the bathroom visit, the mask startled me. Sheesh, you'd think my sub-conscious would keep me better informed than that, letting me know what to expect when I woke up : ) I should have practiced how to unhook myself. The materials said to keep the mask on, just disconnect the hose. So here I was trying to figure out how to do that. The one on the mask is too tight to get off. Then I decided to take it out of the back of the machine. Now I'm wide awake, taking 6 feet of tubing with me to the bathroom. There has to be a better way.

I thought about leaving the mask off and going back to sleep without it, but then thought how silly that would be since I had surprisingly slept half-way through the night with it. So, I gave it another go and woke up a couple of hours later when I rolled over on my tube. I took it off this time and slept another 2 hours without it. I have to come up with a tube solution. Guess I'll be doing my first mod on my Comfort Gel mask so the tube stays going over the top of my head.

The A-Flex performed flawlessly. I didn't have to fight the pressure coming in or out all night. Of course, I haven't had any other machine to compare it to except the one in titration. Getting used to the mask was my only issue. Oh, and the bright blue lights on top of the machine that lit up the whole room. I haven't found a way to turn them off yet. I will call Respironics so at the very least they know a customer wants them dimmed.

So far, so good.
