Hey guys

Post by Juggsy75 » Sun Jul 31, 2022 5:07 am

So I’m in uk and up until last week was using a Philips system one, getting good results, my 30 day average would go between 0.8 and 1.2….. however it developed a fault, and I insisted it be changed due to the issues with the foam,

They’ve given me a dream station one. When I questioned it they said it’s been refurbished inside so is now ok…. I’m not sure if it’s the case?

My settings are
Auto cpap with aflex
Min pressure 4
Max pressure 20

What I’m finding is my ahi seems higher, I’m averaging in the 2’s since I’ve had it, mostly hypopneas

Any clues why this may be, I’ve been told OSCAR isn’t compatible with this machine?

Get OSCAR and try it.

It's the DreamStation 2 that OSCAR had a problem with but as of right I don't think there is a problem.

There shouldn't be a problem with a DS1.

Settings of 4 - 20 are nothing more than the default settings.

Hi Juggsy75,

I looked up your previous posts on this forum, and it seems the PR System One you were given came from the sleep medicine department in one of the UK's National Health Service hospitals.

And now 'they' have given you a replacement. Is this the same 'they''?

Or have you been buying your own machine, as you said you might do, in a previous post?

Whoever it is issued you with this Dreamstation, if 'they' say it is now safe, then it is safe.

As to your settings, they are what are sometimes called 'wide open' and no different from what they'd be when the unit left the factory.

Has no one involved with your treatment suggested changing your pressures? No one at the hospital? (If the 'they' refers to a sleep medicine department)

Hi yes the “they” are the hospital, no interaction, I just turn up every yearly appointment, they check my card, give me a new mask and tube and a see you next year

Hello again,

I assume by 'check my card' you mean 'took the SD card out of my machine and inserted it in their computer'.

If your numbers are as you say – in the 2s – then the SMD staff won't change your settings. 'Under 5' has slowly become the standard that UK sleep medicine departments work to.

As to your pressures: if they give you 'in the 2s', then there's little reason to change them. The difference between 1.2 and 'in the 2s' is not, in my opinion. significant.

If your numbers ever get worse – eg, jump to 'over 5', then you could adjust your settings.

Leave the maximum at 20, because you want the machine to be able to go there if it ever needs to. But set the minimum at 2 cm below whatever the shareware says your median pressure is.

One reason for my saying this is that the minimum for any one person can change over the years as they get older and the tissues get less elastic. My minimum used to be 7.5 cm, f'rinstance. Then it became 9. And this year, 11.
