Anyone Sleep Through Power Outage
Hi Guys:
You long timers must have dealt with power outages in the past. How long does it normally take to wake you up?
This morning I just noticed my clocks were blinking meaning we lost power. After looking at Oscar I saw it was a tiny 1 minute and 20 second outage.
I never woke up, like it did not happen. I would have thought the SECOND the power goes out breathing would be so hard it would automatically wake you up. I am sure if it went on for 15 minutes I would be awake but just wondering on other experiences.
Thanks.

Why would you think that?SJ-Paddler wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 6:27 amI would have thought the SECOND the power goes out breathing would be so hard
Re: Anyone Sleep Through Power Outage
Put on your mask and connect it to your machine without turning it on.. Now sit and breath. It's no different from breathing without CPAP.

Re: Anyone Sleep Through Power Outage
I noticed the difference in effort right away.
Stenting my airway eases my breathing--no question about it.
I woke within a short time of the outage--I think my snoring woke me.
Minutes, perhaps--not seconds.
Without cpap, my snoring is LOUD.

Re: Anyone Sleep Through Power Outage
Had outages with mask on, but within a very, very, very short time (secs, mins - I'm asleep so don't actually know) I fight to breathe and wake up (to find no power).
Your body won't let you die without a really good fight that will wake you quickly. Won't happen.

To answer the OP question....
22 minutes slept through outage...actually what happened was it took me 22 minutes after outage started before I woke up to realize the power was out.
Figured it out by comparing the time I woke up (phone told me) and the time the machine ceased recording anything.
I slept just fine with the machine off and moving air through the vent holes only for 22 minutes and I think that the silence woke me up more than anything else. I was NOT in the least bit in distress when I finally woke up.
You can move enough air through the vents holes or that little valve on FFmasks...to survive and it really isn't all that difficult.

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.

Re: Anyone Sleep Through Power Outage
I always worried a little about power outages, which happen at least several times a year where I live, so I installed a circuit alarm in a plug on the same circuit as my machine. It goes off when our power cuts out, so it's definitely doing its job. The one I got is made by Reliance, and it's available on Amazon for around $19.00. The sound it makes is similar to the sound of an alarm clock going off.

Re: Anyone Sleep Through Power Outage
I complained about the outage affecting my cpap use;
but my neighbor informed me that her concentrator also stopped.
PERSPECTIVE.

Re: Anyone Sleep Through Power Outage
The first time I woke up immediately it seemed like. But there was nothing to do - the lites were out and couldn't watch TV - couldn't get back to sleep.SJ-Paddler wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 6:27 amYou long timers must have dealt with power outages in the past. I hooked my machine up to a battery and now I sleep right thru any outage like it never happened.
If you use a cpap the best thing you can do is get a DC power cord and a battery (or two) for your cpap - connect it to the battery each and every nite and you will never look back.
Avoid using a inverter as it uses more power than DC does.
