Years ago, a mouse died in an inaccessible part of the furnace ductwork.
The vent is right below my cpap. It stunk for a few days and then went away as the rodent dessicated.
Skunk smell is organic, and will dissipate faster than tobacco.
Don't sweat it.
In the meanwhile, realize that skunk perfume is one of the most effective sinus clearers on the planet.

I don't understand the reactions saying in essence that because he or she is new, this post is bogus. But even if it IS bogus, wouldn't this history be useful for others?
Why don't you *ACTUALLY* read the entire content of my post. Me stating him being new, was just *ONE* of the contributing factors, the others were him not attempting to wash it, or stating as much.

Now put on your thinking cap for a second, lets assume this was you, and skunk spray had infiltrated your machine.

What would you do first?
Wash the parts that you regularly wash anyway and see if that solves the problems, or somehow come to the conclusion that maybe people on a CPAP forum have experience with their CPAP machines getting sprayed with skunk and share what they did?
Way to take things personally!

I read ALL of the posts, and all in their entirety.

Lots of people ask questions here have little to nothing to do with CPAP. This one at least is marginally involved.

Feel free to reply, but I have no intention of continuing a bitter discussion if that's where its going.
Because my post was the *ONLY* post that listed him being new as one of the criteria for it not being taken serious. What other post were you referring to when you said, "I don't understand the reactions saying in essence that because he or she is new, this post is bogus."?

Well, if my reaction quoted that item, or even immediately followed it, I might understand your point better. As it is, my reaction was towards a trend of dismissal that was from several people.

I'm just more in favor of a generally welcoming environment. At least until someone has directly proven to be unwelcoming. Do you feel that's what happened with OP?

Now you're just being a dishonest liar. But because I didn't quote your post, I'm going to use your idiotic logic and justify it, by telling you not to take it personally.

If you don't want things getting bitter, don't be so dishonest.

I actually had this happen....sort of...the skunk wasn't immediately outside my bedroom window though. I live out in the country.
Woke up in the middle of the night breathing skunk...I guess the skunk and my outside kitty must have had a disagreement of sorts. Funny thing the kitty never did stink so I guess he avoided the skunk well enough. He's a crafty old kitty.

Anyway....all I did was run the cpap machine on the front porch outside the next day for about 8 hours with no filter...quickly tossed the one that was in the machine. I didn't even bother washing the hose or mask because I couldn't really smell any skunk after I ran the machine for 8 hours. New filter of course...and the smell was gone...but again the skunk didn't actually spray right outside my window kind of thing. I think it was more of a traveling through the yard kind of thing and the wind brought it through my open window. It was strong but not eye watering strong.

First thing to try for any unpleasant odors...simple and easy first....run it outside in fresh air all day and see if that fixes things or not.
If not...then we look deeper but often just airing a machine out real good is all that is needed.

While your account was created 7 years ago, you haven't been around much, presumably haven't read much, until recently, and so probably don't know the long history that the forum has with "drive by" idiots that post something provocative, and then never come back, presumably because their pathetic little lives have no joy in them, and they're just trying to provoke a reaction, much like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdhpPQr5xnU

Back in the worse old days when guest posts were allowed, it happened a few times a week.

Or on a bad night...maybe a few times a night. I always called them "drive bys".....
See enough of them and we do get cynical. Some people are just more cynical than others and heck, even I have days where I am more or less cynical depending on my mood.

We still get some that you guys never see. There are some drive bys that do take the time to register and post nonsensical stuff. It's not obvious spam but it just isn't logical either. They might be posting to sneak under the spam radar to come back and edit the post or the signature like as that still happens too. I never know for sure but some of the drive by stuff I simply disapprove and you all don't see it.
No sense in resurrecting a 10 year old thread with "I feel your pain bro"...kind of thing. Waste of everyone's time reading it not to mention the people who get sucked in and don't realize the post dates and respond to someone who hasn't been here in 10 years.

Since I personally had the skunk issue sort of but in a less dramatic way.....I know it's not something totally impossible and thus I approved it. If there is a chance in hell that the problem is real and someone needs help then you guys know that I am not going to deny help....even if it means I got suckered by a drive by.

I get that PR, it happened when I was more active in the past too. My point is just that I prefer giving people the benefit of doubt and letting them prove me wrong. That's how I am in life.
As a support group we might push away people being initially aggressive, and that seems the opposite of what we should do.
BTW, I stopped coming here years ago because I got fed up with it, so I'll admit this isn't new...

There are other forums, people don't *have* to come here, but some do because it is loosely moderated here, and they can get away with being trolls, where they would be banned on other forums.

As has been pointed out before, there's only three people on this forum that have an business telling others how, or what to post, Pugsy, Johnnygoodman and Carolinegoodman.

Anybody else doing it is just an unwanted busybody.

So, I'm not telling you not to chide others because they're not posting the way YOU want them to, because that would not be my place either.

Message received.

It was not my intent to chide anyone, although I agree that's how it was received. It was my intent to express an opinion.

Yep....I noticed that as well.
Could be a legitimate reason...could be we were a victim of a drive by. Could be they can't find their way back here.
Not the first time and won't be the last.
That's why I often wait before I go into any long detailed responses to people...make sure they come back kind of thing and really want help. Saves my fingers a bit.

and in your case, it's well worth the wait.
