Re: My cpap
- Brand new account
- This board occasionally has problems, with new accounts
- You've certainly done some things, why haven't you listed any? Have you even washed it?
- It's hard to take this post serious.

Re: My cpap
Very difficult to remove smells completely. I would try running the machine outside or at a window when there are no smells lurking. It may take several days. This is a case where ozone may help.

2] wash tube, mask, and humidifier.
3) say a short prayer

Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.
Re: My cpap
1. Buy a new machine and gear.
2. Learn to embrace the odor of skunk.
3. Learn to mouth breath...exclusively.

Doesn't matter. He won't be back until 2061.
Re: My cpap
I don't understand the reactions saying in essence that because he or she is new, this post is bogus. But even if it IS bogus, wouldn't this history be useful for others?

History?
Have you put skunk in the forum search?
How often do you think this problem comes up?

Re: My cpap
I’ve used this concoction on dogs and surfaces before and it works well but I’ve never used it on a CPAP so I’ll preference this with a warning that I don’t know whether or not this could damage your equipment. If you’re willing to chance it I would start by cleaning my hose, mask, and humidifier chamber with the following mixture: 1 quart hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda, 1 tsp dish detergent. You may also want to wipe the exterior of the machine with the mix. If you don’t want to chance using that mix you can try cleaning everything with vinegar, it should help but doesn’t work as well as the peroxide mix. Coffee grounds can help both absorb and cover up skunk odor. You can put bowls of coffee grounds around your bedroom to help with the smell in the air, maybe even try sticking your machine in a bag of dry coffee grounds and baking soda be sure of course any parts of the machine that grounds could get into are covered). I would also toss the filter and put in a fresh one.

Re: My cpap
If his CPAP is skunked up, what about the walls of his room, the bedclothes, the mattress, the curtains, ... ?
Re: My cpap
Ouch,

I haven't. Tempted now, but I think I'll pass.
In general, removing odors seems to be a repeating theme, though.
One is not pressing walls, bedclothes, etc up against one's nose and breathing through them, especially when CPAP is in use. But most of those things could be cleaned with a skunk odor remover, unlike, say, a CPAP machine's internals.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 11:47 amIf his CPAP is skunked up, what about the walls of his room, the bedclothes, the mattress, the curtains, ... ?

Re: My cpap
Why don't you *ACTUALLY* read the entire content of my post. Me stating him being new, was just *ONE* of the contributing factors, the others were him not attempting to wash it, or stating as much.
Now put on your thinking cap for a second, lets assume this was you, and skunk spray had infiltrated your machine.
What would you do first?
Wash the parts that you regularly wash anyway and see if that solves the problems, or somehow come to the conclusion that maybe people on a CPAP forum have experience with their CPAP machines getting sprayed with skunk and share what they did?

I read ALL of the posts, and all in their entirety.
Lots of people ask questions here have little to nothing to do with CPAP. This one at least is marginally involved.
Feel free to reply, but I have no intention of continuing a bitter discussion if that's where its going.
