Aura/Twilight NP Low Leak Rate--Please Help!!

Post by schaefage » Sat Mar 03, 2007 9:45 pm

Hello,

I just recieved my aura/twilight np a couple of days ago and I found something in the encore data that disturbs me. My AHI was good at 1.3, but my leak rate is running from and average of 12 on one occasion to an average of 20 on another occasion, but never higher than 20.

I am very concerned about this since this is below even the base vent flow rate:

viewtopic.php?t=4940&highlight=aura+vent+flow+rate

I presume there could be three reasons for this low flow rate:

1. The vent ports are blocked by something (but I checked this repeatedly).

2. The vent ports are inadequate, or this particular aura headset is defective

3. There is something wrong with the smart card reader function.

4. There is someting wrong with my version of encore pro.

Now I can see how somebody would get false high readings for the twilight/NP, but how would I get false low readings.

If they aren't fasle low readings, then am I breathing back too much CO2

Have any of you had this problem with the aura or another mask.

Please help, I really love the mask, but I don't feel I can wear it if it is not blowing off enough CO2. I will have to go back to the swift if I can't figure this out.

Kent.....I don't have answers for your questions...but, I can give you info on something I observed last night.

I've been using a CL-2....and my leak rate has been running around 43....even with Oldgearhead's garbage tie mod....and the use of lanolin for a better seal.

Last night, I tried out a Twilight Aura for the first time....and my leak rate was 25% lower. My air supply is a M-series Auto with integral humidifier.

I noticed that the Twilight Aura makes more noise than the CL-2....and I think it's because the exhaust port holes are fewer in number than what's on the CL-2.

Maybe the above will help you figure it out....

Kent, I got a lot of nice low leak rates with the Twilight NP. Leaks of 15, 17, things like that. Felt fine. Been using it for over a year. I wouldn't worry about the low leak rate you're getting with that mask.

Ditto to what RG wrote. Low leak rate.

Maybe contact the manufacture of the mask for an explanation. to put your mind at ease.

Thanks guys, I've come to the conclusion that a low leak rate is normal.
