Bad AHI but I do not wake up....
Bad AHI but I do not wake up....
So my AHI is always terrible, like last night it was 12.5. But I rarely wake up in the middle of the night. What does this mean? I would think that I would wake up when I am having this many events per hour but I do not. Does this mean my CPAP machine is adjusting and treating the apnea events that are occurring? I do not have access to Oscar or any software so that would not help.

Depends on what events you are having.
What do you mean you do not have access to Oscar?

Re: Bad AHI but I do not wake up....
Everyone has access to the data that the machine provides on the LCD screen so even if they can't use the available software for some reason....some data is available.
If you have the machine listed in your profile you have at least the AHI event category breakdown available.
Just because you don't remember waking up doesn't mean you didn't wake up. We remember wake ups only when we are awake long enough to form a memory of being awake.
To know what you might need to do to lower the AHI we need to know what that AHI is composed of first to be able to have any idea how to help you.
After that we need all your setting information....pressure, exhale relief, etc.

We have no way of knowing what your machine is doing without seeing any data. If your AHI is that high though...it's not treating something so it's not doing a very good job. The flagged events you see ....those are the events that the machine didn't prevent...the ones that slipped past the defenses.

Re: Bad AHI but I do not wake up....
I do not have a personal computer, I only use my work laptop and the company does not allow me to download any software onto it. So I cannot access Oscar or Sleepyhead.
Here is some of my data:
Pressure: APAP - 13 Minimum and 20 maximum
EPR of 1
Auto humidity
Not sure if any other data is relevant.
I use the Airfit P10 (lately) and the Halo chinstrap, my machine is the Airsense 10 APAP.

Re: Bad AHI but I do not wake up....
What is the central index?
What is the hyponea index?
What is the apnea index?
All of the above add up to the AHI.
What to maybe do about the higher than we want AHI depends on what kind of events that AHI is made up of.
Each of those categories/indexes is available on the sleep report if you look a little deeper.

Yes, you DO wake up all night long when you're having lots of events, you just don't remember waking up.
Get OSCAR
Accounts to put on the foe list: dataq1, clownbell, gearchange, lynninnj, mper!?, DreamDiver, Geer1, almostadoctor, sleepgeek, ajack, stom, mogy, D.H., They often post misleading, timewasting stuff.

It would certainly help if you could supply the information about events that Pugsy has noted, but I also wonder whether you might have a family member or friend who would let you use their laptop to download Oscar, take a look at your data, and create a screenshot. I've done this for a neighbor, and I think it proved to be helpful.

Re: Bad AHI but I do not wake up....
You can see more data on the sleep report screen if you get into the
clinical menu>settings>options; and set essentials to plus.
This will give you a breakdown of AHI, AI, and an estimate of centrals.
You need to set period to 1 day--the default is 30 days, ok if you want an average.

Re: Bad AHI but I do not wake up....
The machine reports my apnea events every night as almost exclusively obstructive. Typically central events are 1.0 or under. The centrals are never high every time I look at this info.

Re: Bad AHI but I do not wake up....
For obstructive apneas more pressure is needed.
More minimum pressure...how much more we have no way of knowing without seeing some detailed nightly pressure graphs as to what the machine is doing now with the minimum it has available.

I was able to access Oscar on an ancient desktop computer that I have, I did not think it even worked still. See attached for a few days from Oscar:

Re: Bad AHI but I do not wake up....
You need more minimum pressure for sure...maybe even more maximum pressure which means a different machine since this machine can't go higher than 20.
I can't see your statistics to get an idea as to what the overall average pressure is running...
Please see this thread for how to format the reports so that we can see everything we need to see.
viewtopic/t158560/How-to-post-images-for-review.html
But I suspect at least 15 cm minimum and probably more. You are essentially maxing the machine out at times during the night.
Some parts of the night are fine but there are some significantly ugly times....probably either related to being on your back or maybe during REM stage sleep. It's common to need more pressure when sleeping on one's back or during REM stage sleep.

I have been thinking for a while that I need a Machine that allows higher pressures. Is this a Bipap?
