Penguins are so cute, having them watch me would be comforting--
As long as they have already been fed . . .

but I'll be damned if I would let a fellow law enforcement officer off the hook for doing something absolutely stupid, especially when they should know better than anyone.
You know, my level of respect for you just went up a few more notches.

There's far far FAR too much 'buddy buddy' corruption in the police forces these days, covering for each other no matter what happened... Cops should be held to a *higher* ethics standard, simply because they have so much power over people.

It's good to know that you have a higher standard than many.

The more that we let slip, the more the public loses faith that we are men and women with honor and devotion.
Why do so few see that?
I'm a little late with this, as I've been busy with work and being sick. At the same time.

Anyway, those are my ethics, they don't always line up with the "good old boy" clique. My reasoning is very clear: A Civil Society is bulwarked by the Rule of law, and the Rule of Law is bulwarked by police officers. If the general faith in police is depressed in the general populace, that harms the Civil Society as a whole. It is incumbent upon us to be the example. We enforce the law, therefore we better be damned sure we're also following it. We have a whole lot of power, and that power has rules and provisions that need to be followed when exercising it, otherwise, we look like simple jack-booted thugs. I am not a jack-booted thug. I have a professional job to do, and at the core of that job is protection of the Constitution of both my State and my Country. Wrapped up in that is, of course, the Bill of Rights, which means that my job also constitutes protecting the rights of the People. I take my job very seriously, and I work diligently to make sure that everything I do is above board and beyond reproach. It is simply that important to me.

My job is to enforce laws, and sometimes, even law enforcers break laws. As long as due process is followed and they are convicted, they are clearly no longer law enforcers, but law breakers. It's very black and white. We should not be held in a special regard under the law simply because we enforce the law - which means, as stated, that we should absolutely know the law. Full stop.

I'm more than happy to be in the law enforcement thin blue line club, but not if that includes people that really push the boundaries of the law, or cross those lines. I'm not good with that. Given my...special abilities, there have been times when I have been tasked with "assisting" other jurisdictions (and even my own) with internal investigations involving fellow officers. If that means people hate me for whatever reason, so be it. I work for the good of the People, not just "my" people. I do not have an "us against them" philosophy, for when it comes to the "People", that also includes us.

I don't know if any of that makes sense, but there it is.
