Odd breathing pattern
Odd breathing pattern
Hi everyone,
Been on CPAP for almost a year now with mixed results. I am waiting for an overnight sleep test to see if I can't get some better treatment. My question though is...for the past week or 10 days I have noticed a bit of a change in my flow rate charts where I am seeing nightly episodes of some strange breathing patterns and was wondering if anyone could tell me what is going on?

Re: Odd breathing pattern
Hi, any reason you're not on auto vs the fixed one at just 7?
Re: Odd breathing pattern
The AirSense™ 10 Elite CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier is the premium single pressure machine in ResMed's AirSense™ line of machines.

Re: Odd breathing pattern
BECAUSE THEIR MACHINE DOESN'T DO AUTO!!!!!

If you're not going to spend a few minutes and figure out which machines are auto capable and which aren't, then please just don't post at all in these situations.

Re: Odd breathing pattern
If you go in and right click on the y axis numbers, you can change the scaling so that the trace isn't so squished, and you can see it better... I'd suggest -60 to 60.Rooster57 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2019 7:15 amHi everyone,

It looks like you're having what others have identified as 'palatal prolapse', where your soft palate gets pushed in the wrong direction as you're exhaling, blocking off your nose, restricting the exhalation flow.
Since you haven't filled out your equipment profile, we don't know what kind of mask you're using.

Re: Odd breathing pattern
I know the machine is plain, but I wondered why he doesn't have auto... so you can all give it a rest!
Re: Odd breathing pattern
Hi, any reason you're not on an APAP machine vs a single pressure CPAP machine with a fixed pressure of just 7?
If you had written something similar to that, I would have known what you meant in the first place.
I wasn't trying to be an A.H.
The way you phrased your question was confusing.
Giving it a rest here.

Re: Odd breathing pattern
Thank you - didn't realize it was confusing

Re: Odd breathing pattern
Thx. for your responses. I have updated my profile to show equipment. I have no idea why I was prescribed this machine. I did an at home sleep test, they told me I have apnea and they told me this was what I needed. After tracking my data for a while I wasn't satisfied that I had OA and had another at home test at a different clinic. They basically told me I don't have obstructive apnea but I do have hypoventilation and some desaturation during sleep, had a blood oxygen test and they said it was ok. I have been scheduled to have an overnight sleep test at a hospital, just don't know when (Canadian medical system sucks sometimes). Meantime I am going to keep using my machine as I seem to sleep better when I use it. Still really tired all the time during the day though. My experience over the last year is that I have a lot more central apneas and most nights don't have any
or very few obstructive apneas. Never heard of this palatal prolapse thing but I will read up on it.

Re: Odd breathing pattern
Probably due to you having few obstructive and mostly centrals.
My understanding is that more pressure can cause more centrals.
With a CPAP you can set a pressure and it stays at that pressure.
With an APAP you can set a higher pressure maximum that could trigger centrals if machine decided to raise pressure to kill false obstructive events. (or snores or flow limits or ect.)
Just my guess.
Other more knowledgeable people on here can do more than guess.
So I will shut up.

Re: Odd breathing pattern
Confusion is better than nastiness.
Re: Odd breathing pattern
No, it's not. It's harmful to people that are desperately grasping for help.

Re: Odd breathing pattern
Who died and made you the arbiter of everything?
Re: Odd breathing pattern
Good question Julie. As far as I know Pugsy is alive and well. Therefore PR cannot be the complete arbiter of everything.
