Yes....and no.

In through the nose is preferable, since it preheats and moisturizes the air, and filters out particles you don’t want.

Out....Pilates and yoga teachers say through the mouth, as do wind and brass instrument and singing teachers.

Breathing out through the mouth with the additional airstream from CPAP dries the mouth.

I need to find a decent pillow that is not too expensive.

I have a phone appointment with the sleep disorders clinic on 20th May, relieved that it is on the phone & not in person as my partner won't be available to drive me to the clinic on that day & it's time-consuming to get there by public transport.

The dry mouth spray that I bought is a dental product & not something specific to CPAP - it was mildly helpful last night.

Nocturia is a common symptom of untreated sleep apnea. Of course not the only cause of nocturia but quite often the excessive peeing will stop when the sleep apnea is optimally dealt with.
I used to have to get up and pee about once every hour and with a painfully full bladder each time...once I got on cpap and the therapy optimized...I now sleep all night without having to get up and pee.

Nocturia caused by sleep apnea is from the stress hormone called ANP Atrial natriuretic peptide
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atrial_na ... ic_peptide
The short explanation is this...
during the apnea events the heart gets stressed and produces the ANP stress hormone which gets dumped into the bloodstream.
All blood goes through the kidneys for filtering and when the kidneys get that ANP to filter it triggers the kidneys to produce more urine and when more urine gets produced the bladder gets full faster and we have to pee more often.

There is a real good chance if you can use the cpap and get your therapy optimized that the nocturia will simply go away.
For me that symptom alone going away made using cpap totally worth it.

Dry mouth is usually caused by you breathing through your mouth. You also say your cheeks puff out- it sounds like your body can’t decide if it should mouth breathe or not. Lol.

I made a decision not to mouth breathe, and I’m working on it.
I always thought that everyone breathed in through the nose & out through the mouth.
No, it's not normal to mouth breathe at all, unless under physical stress.

Breathing out through the mouth always dries the mouth, not just with CPAP.

Jenny the Resmed My Air is a waste of time, you need to download Oscar or Sleepyhead, and make sure you have an SD Card in your machine, if you don’t have a card in your machine you can buy one for a few $ just get the cheapest you can find.

I have made an appointment with the doctor about excessive weeing, I assume this has nothing to do with CPAP but it is severely affecting my sleep at the moment, last night I went to bed at midnight & had gone for a wee right before getting in to bed, then I had to go to the toilet at 1am & again at 2:40am, I went again another time (around 4ish) before getting up at 7:50am.
It might be linked to your apnea. When you are in deep sleep a hormone suppresses urine production so one of the symptoms of apnea is that you wake up in the night to go to the toilet because you never get into deep sleep so the hormone doesn't suppress urine production.

On the dry mouth thing and breathing through your nose, I have a suggestion here. I got my machine a week ago and it has gone really well so far. Part of the reason for that is that a few weeks ago I discovered another symptom of apnea - a hypersensitive gag reflex at the dental surgery. One of the techniques I found to try to resolve that was to practice breathing through the nose even with the mouth open so I had been doing that for several weeks before I got my CPAP machine and it really helped being able to breathe when I first used it.

Find a time to do the exercise. Open your mouth. Close your eyes. Breathe in through the nose. Breathe out through the nose and repeat several times. It is quite calming if nothing else but if you can replicate it when you put the mask on at night then it may help.

For the record - I do wee quite a lot during the daytime aswell, morning excessive weeing may be due to the fact that I drink an energy drink (high in caffeine) first thing when I get up - I don't think I have to explain why I do that LOL......

Teal is my Working English Springer Spaniel and constant companion when at home

To remove the SD card open the big rubber cover with SD Printed on it (It may be stiff to open the first time there is a rubber tab to lift) once it is open you will see the SD card inside it is spring loaded so if you push it into the machine it will click then pop out so you can grab it and put in your computer.

I hope this helps

This is some of what the doctor at the sleep disorders clinic wrote in his letter to my own doctor (GP):

Inpatient PSG, AHI 14 events per hour
Epworth score 17
Oxygen desaturation index of 12.9 events per hour
mild retrognathia
mallampati score of 3
arched palate
reduced oropharyngeal volume

Most of this means nothing to me.
