You might also notice that cpap doesn't have a tube into your trachea.
Being sarcastic and dick-ish because someone suggests that good sanitation practices with a CPAP machine is a really good idea only makes you look like, well, a dick. As I said, I intend to be vigilant about maintaining the sanitation of something blowing air into my lungs all night. I would think to most users that just seems like an obvious thing, but if you want to look up obscure studies from Malta or ones that are 15 years old to give you a reason not to maintain your equipment, knock yourselves out.
Actually if you were to take a poll MOST users here would NOT agree with what you think is an obvious thing.
Just because it might seem obvious to you doesn't mean that "most" others will think like you do. You are in a small minority...tis your right to think however you want to think and do whatever you want to do but we have those exact same rights.

And this study which is the most relevant...is dated 2017...hardly an old study at all.

Believe what you wish but don't be calling people who disagree with you "dicks"...that's not nice language to be using.

. . . good sanitation practices . . .
. . . are found in the equipment manuals from the manufacturer, which do NOT suggest "a CPAP Cleaner."

But, hey, as you say . . .

I didn't endorse a CPAP cleaner... if you're going to pile on at least read my posts.

Glad I did my research before falling for soclean - sounds like it could do more harm than good.

Dawn, warm water, and a little light scrubbing. Does the same thing that the SoClean claims to do and more, because manual cleaning actually removes any gunk.

Still not convinced? Fine, add one part white vinegar to three parts water and clean your stuff. Let air dry. If you take a few minutes doing that in the morning, it'll be dry before it's time to count sheep later that night.

Therefore, it was my personal judgment to point out the fallacy of that sort of unscientific scaremongering in a thread entitled:

Nothing personal. Didn't mean to prosecute you for, or accuse you of, being a shill.

Sorry about that, sir.

And I get it that nursing school puts the fear of gosh into people about what goes on in a hospital. Rightly so. But that is often a place where multiple humans are all sharing germs with strangers with infectious diseases--which I would at least like to believe is not quite the same environment as that in most of our bedrooms.

Live well and prosper.

Oh....shit. You mean I'm not (re)breathing the same air that I just exhaled, because that would be totally pointless as it is mostly Co2 and not saturated with O2?

The points made regarding infection may be plausible if we continuously breathed the same air that we exhale, but we don't, because that Co2 laden air is expelled through the exhaust ports on the mask and when we take a breath, we're breathing in 02 laden air straight from the machine...which didn't come from our mouth.

Eh, what do I know? I'm just a dumb cop.

Responding to someone offering published, peer reviewed, studies, and mention of a crucial difference between CPAP and invasive ventilator therapy with "dick-ish" really does show where you're coming from.

Also, one would hope that someone training to be on the medical field would comprehend at least a little of the method of operation of a CPAP, and not make a ridiculous statement like "blowing air into my lungs".

Of course, the ignorance of how CPAP works by the medical profession is a large part of why we're all here.

Man, I had like four pretty good lines pop to mind for a reply to that. :) But I was raised to respect you and your profession way too much to take the bait in that kind of an online speed trap.

Damn. It's probably time for me to retire since you saw right through that and disarmed me all in one fell swoop. You know what the charge for disarming a law enforcement officer is?

Go ahead, give me your best, my skin is made of the finest grade I don't give a shit-onium.

Yeah, I'm pretty good at the old "don't just do something, stand there" thing myself in a high-viz post.

But I appreciate your contributions to the forum. And any law enforcement who can pull off self-deprecation get extra credit from me.

Hey thanks. I'm not actually an expert on anything related to sleep apnea, I'm just here for comedic relief. Kind of like a court jester.

I've been in this profession long enough to have learned not to take everything so seriously. That includes people, I regularly don't take people seriously...unless they're pointing a gun at me, then I take them seriously. I'm also not one to tell people how to live their lives. If it's within the boundaries of the law, great, do whatever the hell you want.

Well, that, and I like secretly licking my fingers before sticking my hand back into the community popcorn bucket.

Yep. Impartiality without indifference. As important in a forum as on the street.

Easy to learn, extremely difficult to master.
