Thanks. I will send questions in my data thread tomorrow so as not to clutter this one. I am going to need to change the name up since Zonker set the new bar with Zonkers Crib. :D that will be hard to top. Cyn's pester the experts ? Cyn's game of thrones? Or as the mask leaks? Hmmmm.

Generally the advice is okak. It's just that sometimes it's wrong and can't be let go without being corrected. If that brings abuse, so be it.

Few, if any, seem to be interested in YOUR "opinion" of what is 'okak' and 'wrong'.

Hi Pugsy and Palerider, I went to the sleep center and they called Resmed and then made a couple changes to my settings. Though it's still a little difficult to get comfortable and fall asleep, it's much better. I still feel a sense of hyperventilation to start but not as bad as it was and I did fall asleep.

Last night I slept for a couple 2 hour stretches without being aware of waking up during those periods, which is very unusual for me. I did wake up exhausted and feeling pressure or tightness in my lungs. Is this something to be concerned about? Or will this stop with time? Or should I change another setting?

Here are my current settings along with what was changed:

Max IPAP 9
Min EPAP 5
PS 4
Ti Max 3 (it was 2)
Ti Min .3
Cycle low (it was medium)
Ramp 45
start EPAP 4
Essentials on
Trigger High (It was low and they changed it to medium but I changed it to high because it seemed to feel better)

Thanks so much for your help!

Feeling a it of soreness in your *ribs* is fairly common with new people, your rib muscles are working a bit harder to exhale against the small pressure the cpap creates.

That feeling fades after a few days.

Don't change anything right now. Right now the way it is set up it won't/can't auto adjust but for now lets not worry so much about that and instead concentrate on getting you some solid blocks of sleep and then you can evaluate the software reports to see what's going on.
For all we know these settings might be doing a really good job anyway.
We gotta get you sleeping halfway decently first and then we have solid real data to evaluate. Without the sleep the data is pretty much meaningless....and you have to be comfortable to be able to sleep.

Give yourself some time to adjust. Some people take to this stuff like a duck to water and other people find it not so easy for any number of reasons. Don't beat yourself up over it or when you wake up because stress only feeds that insomnia monster more and makes it harder to get rid of him.

The tightness in your lungs or chest wall is probably just the chest wall muscles being a little sore from the exercise/work of exhaling against the pressure.
Chest wall muscles are like all our other muscles and when we give them a new work out they get sore but in time they slowly become less sore and finally to the point they just aren't sore anymore. You probably feel a little discomfort if you inhale big or exhale hard...this will fade with just a little time.
It's very similar to the feeling people get when they have costochronditis or an inflammation of the chest wall.

I may have some soreness in the morning myself...I am currently doing a little experiment but only plan for 1 hour....
IPAP 25.....EPAP 18 and PS of 7....man is this ever big pressures....
my normal pressures are 7 IPAP and EPAP 4.
Special experiment using the Bleep mask at ultra high pressures to see if it will even stay on the nose because someone needing these high pressures wants to buy it and see if it will work for him....we were wondering if it would blow across the room and stick to the wall...  So far other then me hyperventilating a bit...the mask is sealed solidly even at these pressures.
Final report will be over in the Bleep/DreamPort review thread.

Re: adjusting. I was told by experts here to put my mask on start my machine and do something relaxing like watching a favorite movie or reading a book. Its a great way to get used to it when you are not trying to sleep.

Thanks for the advice Pugsy and Cynmatthes! Pugsy you're a brave soul with that research!

I realize I didn't share that I kind of felt short of breath along with the tightness in my lungs. Like I couldn't get enough air to get all the words out. Is that also just part of adjusting? By the afternoon I think I was back to normal in that way.

A little short of breath kinda goes along with the muscle soreness. The body tends to want to avoid doing anything that makes it hurt.
This should also fade as you get more accustomed to the new "work/exercise".

I completed the experiment....got not quite an hour total. I will be posting in the Bleep thread in a bit. Gotta get the report and screen shot and get it uploaded.
Man was that ever a work out...The Bleep held up beautifully though.
I had a couple of events flagged too. Not real because I wasn't asleep...I was sitting upright on the couch playing a silly game on the iPad and watching TV. Had one OA and one Central flagged.

Aborted because I have to get ready for bed soon and I had just about all of those pressures I wanted to deal with. Whew....

Thanks Pugsy.

(: Is there another site other than sleepy head that I can input my data into and get more detailed information on what's happeneing? It seems sleepyhead? It seems that this site is closed down: https://sleepyhead.jedimark.net/, or do I have the wrong site?

You can still download and use SleepyHead from the website link you have....he just isn't going to be working on it anymore...but you can still download it and use it.
The download links are still active or they were...if they aren't you can find it here
https://www.apneaboard.com/sleepyhead/

There are some people working on polishing up SleepyHead and doing some bug fixes but it isn't ready for release yet.
It's going to be called OSCAR.

Hi Pugsy and all - After those first two nights, I can't seem to use it without feeling like I'm hyperventilating. That IPAP of 8 is just too high for me much of the time. I even fell asleep once and woke up later feeling like I'm hyperventilating.

I tried reducing the starting EPAP and it won't go below 4. Of course there is no starting IPAP. I tried changing the minimum EPAP to 4 to see if it would let me lower the starting EPAP to 3, but it still wouldn't.

So it seems I'm stuck with at least an IPAP of 8 and an EPAP of 4 unless the PS is lowered. Is that safe to try? Would it be safe to have a minimum EPAP of 4 and a maximum IPAP of 9 with a PS of 3?

Sure you can lower PS or even turn it off if you wish. Quite safe.
