Resmed s9 elite
Hey everyone, before I get started I have a resmed s9 elite . Ref number is 36000 and 36003.
I went to the doctor yesterday, and was ordered a sleep study but is going to be about 2 months before I get any results. I went ahead and bought a used unit for 150 [ humidifier and everything included ] . I literally have zero idea what pressure I should use, why I need to read data,l. Is there a good starting point on pressure? I cannot wait 2 more months, and many of you probably know. This at times can be torture.
I would appreciate any help, and links to get me started . I looked around a little bit and could not find much. Links to stuff would be great and any beginner info.

Try a pressure of 10 cm. It has been historically the "average" pressure that is prescribed/used.Wigsplitter wrote: ↑Sat Feb 09, 2019 12:04 pmHey everyone, before I get started I have a resmed s9 elite . Ref number is 36000 and 36003.

With the help of software such as Sleepyhead, you'll be able to monitor your results and tweak from there.

Re: Resmed s9 elite
And sleepy head looks at data of how your breathing is? Do you need a usb sd card reader also?
Re: Resmed s9 elite
Welcome to the forum.
I would suggest starting off with a modest pressure just to get used to everything and look at the results and go from there.
Settings...6 cm with EPR set to full time and set to 2.
Get SleepyHead software (see my sticky in the Announcements section "Newbies...please read" and let's get you just used to the pressure and the mask and then look at the data available and see how thing might could be better if they need to be.
You first have to be able to sleep comfortably to evaluate anything.....and you never know..you might be able to get by with a nice low pressure.
If your computer has a SD slot you don't need a special card reader. If your computer doesn't have a slot then a reader/adapter for using one of the USB ports will be needed. Cheap generic from Walmart will work just fine.
What operating system is on your computer? Need to know with the S9 machines because you may need to do an extra step with the SD card.

I have a modern pc . I have windows 10. And thank you very much for the help. I cant take the daytime sleepiness anymore. Driving to work, eyes falling asleep after 8 or 9 hours of 'sleep'.

Listen to Pugsy. She won't give you bad advice.
You need data because, otherwise, how do you know whether the cpap is working, and more importantly, what to do to make it work better.
There's links below on sleepyhead.

That's true about data, I was just going to go by how I feel. I have to go get the adapter and the program. I will have the cpap on monday. Which will be my first night. What is a good way to clean everything without the cleaner unit. And what water should I use?
Re: Resmed s9 elite
Tap water is fine until you can get some distilled water. The distilled recommendation is mainly for prevention of mineral build up in the water chamber and it's not the end of the world if a little build up happens.
Easily removed with vinegar or lemon juice.
For cleaning the machine just wipe the outside down with some sort of cleaning product..or even just an alcohol wipe.
Don't spray anything onto or into the machine though.
The water chamber and hose...good hot soapy water and rinse is good enough cleaning. Change the filter if you have one...if not just order some and change later.
Windows 10 writes a little text file to the SD card when you insert the card or use that USB drive...doesn't really hurt anything but the S9 machines don't like having that little text file on the SD card and if that little text file is on the card when you put it back in the S9 then the machine will tell you it's a bad card and want you to erase the card. Not really a big deal if you already have the data in the software but it's annoying.
So try to remember to slide that little write protect tab to lock it so Windows can't write anything to the SD card.
Don't forget to unlock it when you take it out of the computer though...but if you forget and watch the LCD screen when you put the card back in the S9 it will tell you that the card is locked.
The S9 machines are the only machines that care about that little text file.

There's no "cleaner unit" needed.Wigsplitter wrote: ↑Sat Feb 09, 2019 3:05 pmThat's true about data, I was just going to go by how I feel. I have to go get the adapter and the program. Dish soap, water, that's *all* that's required to clean the tank, hose, mask.
Wipe down the outside of the cpap itself. Take the filter out and replace it, if you've got a spare, if not, you can wash it out with soap and water, then let it dry before putting it back in.
Go here: https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual and request the clinical manual for a Resmed S9 Elite by email.
You can use plain tap water, over time, you'll get some mineral buildup in the water tank, just give it a vinegar soak now and then and it'll come right out. I line it with a paper towel, then I only need a little bit of vinegar and the paper towel wicks it up the side of the water tank. Or, you can use distilled water, to avoid the mineral buildup.

Re: Resmed s9 elite
Thank all of you guys so much for your time. Seems like you understand and feel my pain of this. I will be back on Monday to ask a few more questions, but have already gained a ton of info here.
Re: Resmed s9 elite
There's a fairly steep learning curve involved but we have your back and will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
What mask are you getting or got already?
I ask because I have some donated masks that I can send you so you can try other masks.
The mask part of this journey is IMHO the hardest part of it all.

I am not sure what it is called.

There is a picture of everything I got.
For the SD card...can I just get any sd card that is right size ? Or does it have to be the cpap one?

Any SD card will do 2GB to 32Gb whatever you have lying around or is cheap in your local store. There may be one in the machine already check the slot on the back of the S9 near the filter.
When you get the machine factory reset it and clear the old data the details will be in the clinical manual that way it only has you therapy hours and ahi on it.

I got my SD card at WalMart...cheap Sandisk card. I lost the first one.
I can't see which brand mask but looks like maybe one of the Respironics Amara View or maybe the ResMed F30...I can't see anything but RES....
I get the general idea though...it's what we call a full face mask.
Tell me...do you normally breathe through your nose just fine or do you have chronic nasal congestion issues that you can't clear up and you often have to breathe through your mouth to be comfortable?
I just remembered I promised someone to look through the donations stash for something...and I forgot to do it...So tell me if your nose is clear or not and I will see what I might have in the freebie box for you as well.

I would say I am mainly a mouth breather because it's most comfortable
