New equipment question
New equipment question
Hey All, I've had a respironics system one for nearly four years now and the humidifier has now quit twice. My insurance has agreed to replace the unit, and I've been given a few different options. I'm just looking at the basic stuff such as size, weight, noise levels, but wondered if there were any other opinions here on the options I was given:
1) Respironics Dreamstation - Seems ok - same brand I had before so I hope the humidifier holds up - it appears to be rather a large footprint.
2) Fischer & Paykel icon - looks to be pretty basic - small footprint
3) ResMed Airsense 10 - I have a couple of coworkers with this one and they like it.
Overall, I want something that isn't noisier or hopefully bigger than the unit I have. Also, I can't get the data myself on that System One, so I'd like to be able to connect to it and see leaks, etc, and I'm assuming any modern unit would do this. ANy other suggestions?

Re: New equipment question
Don't make that assumption....there are brand new models that don't give full data. There are still machines that only put hours of use n that little SD card.
Know which models offer full efficacy data beyond just hours of use.
Respironics full data cpap/apap machines...
DreamStation Pro model #DSX400xxx
DreamStation Auto/CPAP model # DSX500xxx
there are other higher end machines..all are full data
Avoid the DreamStation CPAP...it's a brick, no data beyond hours of use...model #DSX200xxx
ResMed full data machines
AirSense 10 Elite
AirSense 10 AutoSet
AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her
Avoid the AirSense 10 CPAP machine...while it does offer a little data..very limited and no graphs and no event category breakdown.
I call it a half assed brick.
F & P Icon....not familiar off the top of my head with the various models but even the full data machines don't give as much data as ResMed or Respironics machines. I don't recommend this brand for several reasons that pertain to my own personal preferences.
The ResMed machines are going to be a little more quiet than the DreamStation machines.

Out of curiosity, how much will the equipment be for you out of pocket with the insurance coverage?

Re: New equipment question
my resperonics crapped out on me too. i replaced it two weeks ago with the airsense 10 autoset for her. i really like this machine. it's a bit more responsive to events. hell, even the humidifier is a bit more responsive, if that makes sense!Clizby wrote: ↑Thu Aug 09, 2018 10:35 amHey All, I've had a respironics system one for nearly four years now and the humidifier has now quit twice. it is quieter, but i didn't think my former machine was particularly noisy. and it's not bigger than the resperonics.
however, i would recommend it.....

Which system one? there's a bunch, and they've got a history of having problems in the blower that looked like the humidifier fails.Clizby wrote: ↑Thu Aug 09, 2018 10:35 amHey All, I've had a respironics system one for nearly four years now and the humidifier has now quit twice. Not entirely sure - My insurance is going to pay for a new one though, so I certainly will not take my old one apartpalerider wrote: ↑Thu Aug 09, 2018 12:13 pm

Re: New equipment question
Based on my own limited experience I chose to stick with the Resmed AirSense 10 AutoSet "For Her" or the Airsense 10 Autoset "Unisex" model.
I have both units and although I have had no prior experience with any other brand or model that the units seems pretty darn solid, are thoughtfully designed and seem to be VERY popular models that support full data logging that is compatible with SleepyHead.
I had a choice to take the PR Dreamstation Auto (it was the same cost as the AirSense 10 AutoSet) but I didn't like the larger footprint it had and the smaller humidifier than the ResMed units. Despite the Dreamstation having marginally quieter operating sound levels that the ResMed units seemed quieter. Reading on some old posts it also seems like the Dreamstation has more issues + the annoying screen backlight + built in beeper that has no business being on a CPAP machine.

*shrugs* Cheap way to have a backup machine for when there's problems with the new one.
