Please help with an answer!!!
Hi,

I'm about the worst person here to be answering any of your questions. But I do want to make a couple of suggestions. Your questions are such that you might consider posting them as a new topic. There are so many topics here that often it is easy to miss a question. Posting a topic might make your question more noticable.

Also, if you don't get a response or want another, you might consider using the PM (private message) feature of this forum, and you might PM someone like Rested Gal, who has a lot of experience on this forum. She or some of the other big users of this forum (like Wading thru the Muck and others) might be able to direct you to some previously posted topic that might help if they can't help you directly. You just never know what might help.

I wouldn't give up asking your questions, if I were you. Forget all the silly lamenting of this topic. Many people here really do want to help if they can. And if noone can help with just the right answer, many here really do care about people's situation. We bicker and complain sometimes (OK, often) but for the most part, this forum is full of helpful people. They might not be available all the time or may miss some questions, but they do want to help. So don't give up.

your original question may not have been answered because no one on here has had gastric bypass surgery. My guess would be yes, you will still need the CPAP, at least until you have lost the weight you need to. The bypass surgery doesn't take the weight off you for several months. Do you have any obstructions via your oral cavity or nose? this will also determine your need for CPAP in the future.

17 episodes an hour is probably moderate. I'm not sure of the cut-off point. Anything over 5 is considered sleep apnea. You oxygen saturation rate is very low. Anything over 90% at the hospital and they will put you on oxygen, so you may need oxygen in addition to the CPAP.

You'll probably find out more at your second sleep study when they titrate to see what pressures you'll need.

Janelle,

One correction. Anything BELOW 90 and they will often give supplemental O2. Without knowing how much you desat (oxygen level drops) when on CPAP, talking about supplemental O2 might be a bit premature. Often when treated, people do not desat like they did without treatment... Best bet is to check with the Doc AFTER your titration study.

Another Tip for bpoe689

If you check this message board "everyday" like I do......It's easy to get "wrapped up" in what goes on in here. Good advice for you (and all of us) is ...Don't get emotionally involved by allowing your feelings to get hurt because someone didn't answer your questions. I've allowed myself to travel down that same road a few times. I would find myself getting upset..."Over what" ??? Now, I try to take everything with a grain of salt.
Linda was correct with her info on posting a new topic.

Have a Blessed Day my friend
Rich

PS I have severe OSA (sleep study indicated 100 apneas per hour) ouch

Wow, Rich. With that kind of OSA severity, it's a wonder you were able to "sleep" at all during your sleep study. Goodness! Sure hope things are working out for you.

Brain fart, translated to the keyboard. I did mean BELOW 90%. Since the poster had a desat rate of 76%, I think it was, that is pretty darn low, isn't it?

Haha. "Brain fart" eh?
Like that phrase.

As to the 90%, I knew you had typed that wrong and meant less than 90%. No worries.

But I sure liked the "Brain fart" thing!

Janelle,

If you find an error like this in your post you can click on the edit button in the upper right corner and "fix" it. I often catch typos in rereading my posts and fix them.

What typos?

Yep, know about the edit function. But I have ADA and can't be bothered to read before posting.

Gee, now I'm not so sure if it was a brain fart or a senior moment. Could have been either!

So let me get this straight, your DENTIST keeps you from re-reading and fixing your posts?

Odd.

Liam, with a big toothy grin.

Okay, see, now another Brain Fart. I meant ADD. I'm not quite hyper enough to earn the H.

Ah. So you were never good in algebra, and THAT'S why you don't edit?

Liam, in full bozo silly mode.

Janelle,

I guess your missing my point. Instead of posting your correction, just go back and fix the original post when you find am error. Nobody will ever know.

Maybe the ADA will help you with your ADD.

Yes, I know I can go back and edit, but if I do, then all the resulting posts will make no sense. Right?
