Oximeter: CMS-50D+ or CMS-50F?
Oximeter: CMS-50D+ or CMS-50F?
I'm trying to decide on an oximeter. I think I've got it narrowed to the CMS-50D+ or the CMS-50F. If I'm reading these descriptions correctly, both store a night's worth of data. And both look like they'll work with Sleepyhead.
The D+ is quite a bit cheaper. But the F has the rubber finger tip and the wrist-worn unit, which appeals to me.
I've read where both units have warnings about the battery not lasting longer than two hours, or the finger unit isn't supposed to be worn more than two hours on the same finger? Can anyone verify / clarify these issues?
Is there a better oximeter in this price range that I might have missed?

I have the CMS 50f, and used it quite a bit. It easily holds a nights worth of data and it does work with Sleepyhead. I have not seen any warnings about moving the finger tip unit, and since it's designed to record over night, I sure as heck am not going to wake up every 2 hours or so to change finger tips. I chose the f over the d versions because of the wrist mount, and finger tip unit. I have no experience with the D model, but it sure looks like it could come off very easily with just a little hand movement.
There are two downsides to the f model that I can think of. After several years, the display started to dim out on me. I have an older model (white face) versus the newer blue face that is commonly available now. They may have addressed that issue in the newer models. It also has rechargeable batteries. I've not experienced this but sooner or later they're going to start failing, and they're not easily accessible.
I've replaced my 50f with the 50i version and use that monthly. The main difference as far as I'm concerned is that the 50f can only record one session at a time. You turn the unit off, and you're going to need to upload the data before starting recording another session. The 50i can record multiple sessions at a time.

Haven't ever heard of the 2 hour thing at all. The batteries will last at least all night and my CMS 50 D+ lasted 3 nights I think it was.EdNerd wrote:I've read where both units have warnings about the battery not lasting longer than two hours, or the finger unit isn't supposed to be worn more than two hours on the same finger? Any that will record all night won't have a 2 hour limitation though. If someone had that problem then they must have had a lemon.
Haven't ever heard about the 2 hour wearing it on the finger limitation either. Have no idea where that might have come from.
If you are wanting to save money and if you are only wanting an occasional spot check of the O2 on a night here or there I would get the 50 D+.
But if you are planning on using it very often then I would go with the F model.
I got the 50 D+ because I knew I wouldn't be using it often and I was right. After 3 or 4 nights with nothing exciting getting reported I never wanted to use it again and sold it.
I don't know of any that are any cheaper that will do what you want. Now you can buy them on EBay for less from sellers in China and it takes a bit longer to get here.

My 50F has the warning about no wearing it for more than 2-hours on one finger. But then the ability to monitor all night makes no sense - so I wear it all night.

My fingers are too small for the one size finger clamp, so I wore mine on my thumb.
All night, with no discomfort. I suspect somebody is covering their hiney.

Re: Oximeter: CMS-50D+ or CMS-50F?
I had the 50F and used it for a couple of years until the display went so dim I couldn't read it. Then my computer wouldn't recognize it so I replaced it and bought the 50D. My thoughts on both:
The 50F is a little more convenient and I agree that the rubber finger probe is nicer. Being attached to your wrist makes it a lot easier to sleep with it.
For the 50D, I have little rubber bands and I use one of those to secure the probe to my finger because it seems to move around a lot being hard, plastic. The rubber band keeps it in place. It's not as convenient having the monitor loose, but since I don't do this often, it's not that big of a deal.
Both of them record all night, even if I sleep more than 8 hours. I've never had a battery problem like you describe with either of them.
I guess I'd go with Pugsy on this. If you plan to use it a lot, I'd go with the 50F (wrist) model. If this is maybe just an occasional thing you want to test, the 50D will be fine with a possible rubber band on the finger probe like I do!

Re: Oximeter: CMS-50D+ or CMS-50F?
for me, the choice is clear, the D+ is heavy (for a fingertip), cumbersome, and may need to be taped to a finger to stay on all night. It eats batteries (at best, you'll get 24 hours or 3 days on a set of AAA alkalines).EdNerd wrote:I'm trying to decide on an oximeter. I think I've got it narrowed to the CMS-50D+ or the CMS-50F. the F is much more comfortable to wear, and has a rechargeable battery.

50F is about the best you can get for the price point. I find it comfortable enough and never have any great amounts of artifact in the report. Software and connection, while rather archaic, have always worked just fine for me--simple plug and play.

Get the 50F
Go over to Cooper Medical for help with the set up (Kevin is a member here so check their prices before buying).
Lots of good stuff at Cooper - Hardware, Software, instruction Manuals, etc.
For example: http://www.pulseoxstore.com/themes/defa ... d_Help.pdf
http://www.pulseoxstore.com/content/abo ... -oximeters
I've used the 50F for a couple of years. No problem uploading to the computer using the appropriate software or importing to SleepyHead. I haven't had any battery problems so far.

Re: Oximeter: CMS-50D+ or CMS-50F?
Interesting. Many of us have used, SUCCESSFULLY, the 50F (and many others) and while we may have had a little difficulty, we got them to work. It wasn't all that hard, just took a bit of patience sometimes. I've seen you swear that an Auto machine was NOT an auto, when in fact, it is. When the rest of us found ourselves in similar situations, we took the initiative and learned about our machine and how to access the clinical menu and figure it out.xxyzx wrote:====raisedfist wrote:50F is about the best you can get for the price point. plug and play but not together and not nicely in the sandbox
it was a guessing game to get the data file imported
and 85% of the time there was no data in the file
apparently there is a magic sequence of picking and setting options and doing actions that work
but if you dont do it that way there is no data at all just an empty file
once i found out the incantation to importing files then that was easy
but finding the magical sequence of commands and clicks for gettign the actual data in was a guessing game that took too many tries so i quit wasting time with it
All I can glean from this is technology IS difficult for you. You can't seem to accept the fact that it's not the technology, but your inability and lack of patience that holds you back. Maybe if you stopped thinking of everybody and everything as a libtard, stopped being so angry and hostile - things might be a whole lot easier for you.
I debated about posting this, but decided I'm doing it for the benefit of those that are interested in the 50F or 50D. It would be a shame for someone with the fortitude to see it through to give up based on one person's inability to get it to work.

Not going to argue with you because it's pointless. You don't listen to anybody, about anything EVER that you disagree with. All I can hope is that new people out there don't take your comments too seriously and decide for themselves. That's my only motivation is to hopefully reach them, through and around all your crap. And believe me, I need boots and a shovel when I read some of your stuff.xxyzx wrote:=========Madalot wrote:-------xxyzx wrote:====raisedfist wrote:50F is about the best you can get for the price point. and many people on amazon say they had the same problems
so this is not one persons problem but the norm
the 5star reviews are clearly bogus advertising hype
if you got it to work so easy
why couldnt innovo tell us how to do it
their so called help was useless
i got it to work once
after two hours or playing and retrying
what i want is for it to work every time with less than a minute to get a report
better yet
dont make me futz with the software show me the summary on the device
and the report never showed max heart rate
i had to go into the xcel file to find that
i realise taht documentation is a thing of the past now that millenials who cant read or write are in charge of doing it
and i am willing to try a few logical things first on my own
but when nothing works intuitively yuo need to have documentation that is clear complete and correct
technology is not beyond me at all
i made a good living doing things that are far more complex than this device
but we had documentation that was correct clear and complete
how much time should anyone waste trying to guess how to make it work
either you are very lucky and found the magic incantation and remembered it
or you wasted way too much time playing games to figure it out
even the so called help could not explain how to import the file and make sure THERE ACTUALLY WAS DATA IN IT
WTF DOOD
if you import the file and click to open it you shuold find data not an empty spreadsheet

Re: Oximeter: CMS-50D+ or CMS-50F?
Thank you for staying true and proving my point that you DO NOT LISTEN. My guess, based on your attitude, is that you never learned/figured out how to hit "record" in order to get it to actually record and store the data.xxyzx wrote:I LISTEN TO FACTS NOT LIBTARD BULLSHIT
sorry you assholes think that facts and truth are crap
this thing is either intermittent buggy or a guessing game with amateur hour software
so CAVEAT EMPTOR
i hope everyone listens to me and looks at ALL the reviews on amazon
the 5 start are clearly bogus
too many people had problems with no data to call us all stupid
I USED THE INSTRUCTIONS AS SHOWN ON THE LINK IN THE POST ABOVE
I GOT A FILE INPUT
BUT THE DATA WAS NOT IN THE FILE
when i played around for a few hours doing every sequence of things and clicking every combination of options
then one time i actually got some data
others on amazon note they dont get data either
there is something wrong with either the hardware that the upload does not send data
or else the software that you have to do something for it to see the data
But being fair, I have to agree with you that the documentation that comes with is pretty bad. But, the device itself is VERY easy to learn and use so the documentation really isn't all that important. And - people here can and do help - at least when asked nicely!
I'm hoping that anybody new will ignore your rantings and ravings and focus on those people that post clear, well thought out comments and go from there. Anybody that doesn't and chooses to jump on your "libtard" train - well, they deserve all the trouble they get for not bothering to research further.

If your skin is fragile, long term use of the finger probe can result in pressure damage to the skin. This is why the recommendation calls for repositioning every 2 - 4 hours.
If your skin is tough, no problems with overnight use.
