John:
I am no expert , just a thought that might help........ but if it were me....(famous quote)
I would assume the machine is writing the data to the card. (If I read all your posts correctly).
It might have trouble finding space in your database, such as not enough disk space left????
I would go down into the data base and move the folder that says "DATA" temporarily to another location or copy it somewhere then delete the old one.
Make a new, empty "DATA" folder.
Then try a new download from the "Smart Card"......................... Chuck

I have 130 GB of free space on my hard drive. The Encore Pro data files appears to take up only 120 MB, so space doesn't seem to be a factor.

Would there be any benefit to installing the software on another computer to see if that would make a difference?

It wouldn't hurt to try another machine. These machines have been known to go brain dead once in awhile. For unknown reasons.. It would just eliminate one more piece of the puzzle. and it sure is a puzzle John.....

I have temporarily installed the software on another computer. I've enabled the card reader. I'm running my cpap unit (just blowing in the room as I'm not wearing it). Is there a minimum period of time that I need to run it for the data to be transferred to the card so that I can test it?

Well, now I'm totally baffled. I installed the software on another computer, ran the cpap briefly to get some fake data, and it successfully downloaded into the second computer! So, I returned the card (with the same card reader) to the first machine, and it would not read data. Yet, it will write to the card.

So, does this mean that I need to uninstall and reinstall Encore Pro? Or, is this related somehow to the card or reader? Or something else?

well If you don't mind losing The data you already have, you could uninstall the "Encore Pro" with your uninstall program and just reinstall it. Or if you wanted to save your data You could try reinstalling right over the copy you have though I don't know if it would do it. You could also "Export the patient
file and import it back when you get "Encore Pro" reinstalled. Or save the "Data files" from the SQL file and replace them later. But thats what it looks like............ Chuck

John,

Have you TRIED your reader plugged into a different port? If you have a tower computer, is there an available port in the back?
I won't go into all of the "oddities" with my own setup, but there are many quirks with USB ports, cardreaders and how particular cards can be when it comes to being seated in the readers.....and including the operating system, drivers, other programs running and who knows what else.....it's hard to rule anything out. If Encore Pro has BEEN working OK and you haven't had any other problems with it (error messages), I would assume that you wouldn't have to uninstall and re-install it......unless all else fails. The database is stored in a different directory away from the Encore Pro software, so uninstalling and re-installing it shouldn't have an affect on it.

I'd concentrate on the hardware (cardreader) end of it first......then the rest.

Good luck,

Den

Ah, if only this were simple.

I tested the system again. Now it won't download data onto either computer. But, I can still write to the card (prescription data), etc. So, my one positive test with computer #2 may have been a fluke. I'm back to wondering if it is the card reader, the card, or the cpap. This is way too strange.

As nothing else has worked and that is a low cost option, I'll go for it.

If that fails, do you know how cpap.com handles situations such as checking my apap to see if it is the culprit?

It appears to be a software issue on your current PC if it works on another. I'd export my patient file so as to no loose any data and then try a uninstall/reinstall.

Well, while it worked the first time on computer #2, I've tried again twice with negative results. I can uninstall and reinstall, but it's not clear that this is a software issue since the card only worked one time on computer #2 and it hasn't worked for a week on computer #1.

I'll give it a try and report (but I'll order another card since they are cheap).

John,

You have one challenging problem there.

When you go to do the download I am assuming it is after you have selected a patient of your patient list (am guessing you are the only patient on it so this part should be easy), when patient is selected you then do the data download (PS I do assume you have the USB device selected in your options) if there is a succesful download, there will be a new entry in the downloaded items list (same place where it puts an entry if you change the prescription).

(by the way - I ran my machine for 10 mins & was able to get a download).

Good luck

When you plug in your M series, what firmware version does it display?

Mine is about a month old and has version 3.06 installed. It hasn't lost any data so far even on Saturday. I am using version 1.6.22 and I use the same version to read cards from my Classic and M series switching back and forth.

One thing I always do before using the card is to erase and setup the card using the EncorePro software Smartcard utilities. I'm on a laptop using XP Home with SP2. I have it on another computer with XP Pro SP2, no problems there either. I did have a problem with the Mako driver on the laptop, once I got the driver from the 1.6.22 CD-Rom did that one start working.
