I've been on for 2 months and it's taken all that time to get to the point I am getting roughly 4 to 5 hrs of sleep before awaking and becoming aware of my surroundings. This has been an improvement from the beginning when I only got 2 1/2 hrs sleep and feeling worse than before starting cpap. I now feel I have more energy than before starting cpap, so I feel I am going in the right direction but not quite there yet. My question is; when I am eligible for new equipment any advice on which way to go. Would apap be a better way since I would be able to monitor my sleep.
I am presently on a Remstar Plus cpap system with a remstar heated humidifier, Mirage Swift Nasal pillow system and Premium Chin Strap. Any information would be appreciated.

Welcome to the boards Huricane.
I am glad you posted and that you are doing better.
I like the auto, because it adjusts to my different needs and I do not need to have the pressure to the highest setting I need. An auto adjusts to my needs whether I am on my side or back or stomach.
I love the info I get from the smart card.
I do not know all the Remstar Machines, but I do know that the remstar M pro will give details as well, but it will not auto adjust.
Remember that the auto can also be used as a regular CPAP.
Have you tried different interfaces. I am asking because I did not realize how important interfaces were to our CPAP sucess. I know that leaking and comfort was a big issue. After two weeks on the Swift, I was discouraged and exhausted.
Why are you using a chin strap? Do your lips stay shut with the chin strap?

One the remstar line, the plus is the only one where you can't get data.
So, I would recommend something better. CPAP vs. APAP is another story.
You can adjust your pressure on CPAP using date, whereas the APAP allows you to use different pressures at different times during the night as needed.
This becomes more and more valuable the higher your pressure goes, as well as if you need significantly different pressures during the night.
Can tell this from your data.
If I were buying I would get APAP (I did myself) since it can do everything a CPAP can do and more. To me it is worth a few extra dollars for the flexiblity. But if money is the issue, depending on your pressure needs a CPAP with data card capability may be enough.

If your insurance is like mine, they rent the machine for 2-3 months then purchase it. If you wait until the insurance purchases it you will have to wait YEARS before they will purchase a new one. Depending on your needs, an auto is the best. It can be used as straight cpap or auto as Selfseeker said. I would also recommend you get the software so you can keep track of your progress.
You didn't mention why you only sleep 4-5 hrs. Is there a problem? If you post questions you will get more than enough information about what might help.
