Who has the quietest APAP?

Post by Justin_Case » Thu Nov 02, 2006 12:26 am

Not to interfere with another thread on the M series, just wondering what you all think on which machine may be the quietest APAP out there, in not only machine noise but noise level in the mask. Of course, we all noise can be subjective.

There can be variations in sound level, pitch, whatever, imho, between any two machines of same model from same manufacturer. When anyone states that one particular machine is quiet (or noisy) I really believe that applies only to that one particular machine that the person is using....not to "those brands or models" in general.

It's luck of the draw, in my opinion, as to exactly what kind of sound any machine is going to make after it comes off the assembly line, regardless of specs.

I've used Respironics machines that were quieter (to me) than their equivalent Puritan Bennett or another company's model -- and vice versa. If "vice versa" can work threeway comparisons!

Why everyone knows the Remstar Classic Auto is the quietest... by 1dB

is that a Somnotech mask I see? It is supposed to be the most quietest mask on the market. Is it?

you know the quieter the mask is the more noisy the machine will be. If the machine is too noisy, you drag out your woodworking skills and make a sound insulated box to put it in and set it on the floor. Sort of like a shoe-shine box.

I found a source once for that high tech 1/8" thick sound deadening foam, same stuff they use on the inside of the machine but I lost the link.

Sound insulated box.... reminds me of this thread of long ago...

http://www.talkaboutsleep.com/message-b ... php?t=3203

Had hoped the link to the foam might be there, but sadly no.

Incidentally, to anyone reading that thread -- when TAS changed the format of their message board quite some time ago, some of the old posts got copied out of order during the massive switch-over. I think the post about 12 posts down was really the first post that started that topic...the post by <gothose>.

Gets a tad confusing when some posts seem to be talking about something that doesn't get mentioned until much later in a thread. But there is some very good discussion in that topic about how to build a safe soundproof box.

There are not many people at this forum that use or have used this company's machines. CPAP.COM now carries it. If you want a quiet and reliable machine you should check out the DeVilbiss RPM AutoAdjust CPAP.

i dunno, i had a new remstar auto non m series for about 5 and a half months and i thought it was quiet, but being as though i hadn't had any other machine to use before then it was a very one sided comparo, but after that machine got an error code 9, i believe. i took possesion of a resmed s7 autoset elite loaner from my dme for a couple days until respironics sent me my brand spankin new machine through their first touch program. and i gotta tell you the comparison between noise levels was very noticeable, even my new remstar was still quieter than the s7, that thing was annoyingly loud, lol.

i also can compare it to my s8 escape which is my travel machine, the s7 is louder than both remstar autos, and my s8 escape, and the escape is just a tad louder than the remstars. so there, if the s8 vantage is quiter than the escape than it is prolly just about even with the remstar auto's, non m series. i dunno about the m series, which i coulda got one when my first remstar messed up but since i didn't have the new version of encore pro i wouldn't of been able to manage my data if i would of let them upgrade me, lol. wow, sorry for the book lol.

Everyone is worrying about the noise, when we all as kids, used to pin cardboard to hit the spokes of our bikes. When did we get old? Jim

I know some will try and misconstrue the results even when obvious, so all my tests from now on will include this disclaimer:

I think Rested gal is right about it being a luck of the draw in getting a machine.
