Encore Pro Pre release
Is this a "fatal" error? Is there a box where you click "OK" and then what happens?.....program goes away or allows you to continue or what?
Is the message coming from the Encore Pro program or from Windows?

A Class ID (CLSID) is a unique identifier that identifies a COM component. Its used as a handle of sorts so that other applications can interact with instances of a particular object.munsterlander wrote: I searched for CLSID, but could not find anything helpful. When I deleted the CLSID code from my registry, it came back with the same number when I reinstalled. Does anyone know how to determine where that code comes from.
If you post the actual CLSID value here, we "might" be able to help determine which component its belongs too. (Its the long number after the CLSID=" No guarantees but I'll do my best.

That CLSID is for a 3rd party control called the 'ComponentOne Chart 8.0 2D Control'munsterlander wrote:CLSID=(58A968A5-E3CE-4743-9CE4-A27357009527).
Its installed as the OLE Extension Control file olch2x8.ocx
Located in the following directory C:\Program Files\Respironics\Encore Pro
Check to make sure file exists and if so we'll have to see if its registered correctly

If the file does exist then try registering the control manually.jskinner wrote: Check to make sure file exists and if so we'll have to see if its registered correctly
To do that, open a Windows Command Prompt and change to the C:\Program Files\Respironics\Encore Pro directory. Then type:
regsvr32 olch2x8.ocx
Some things you might check are in the Control Panel/Administrative Tools under "Services" and "Event Viewer". Services might tell you if the (Encore Pro) programs are running, stopped, disabled or whatever. The Event Viewer keeps logs of System, Application and Security events.....including errors. You might be able to determine what caused the errors by checking in these places.
Just a thought.....

When I go to program files\respironics\encore pro the file is there. I tried to change the command prompt to c:\Program Files..... I guess I don't know enough about using the command prompt because I can not get anywhere. When I "Start-All Programs-Accessories-Command Prompt" It comes up with C:\Documents and Settings\my name>. I can't change it to get to the Encore Pro Directory. Man, you will be a hero if this works.

I just generated the error message and check the security and events logs with no indications of a problem.
Thanks again for the help.

It works
After learning a little more about the command prompt, I finallt succeeded. "IT WORKS!!!!!!".
Thank you jskinner.
When entering command prompt, It began in my documents and settings. I had to type cd "c:\Program Files\Respironics\Encore Pro"
That got me to the right folder. I then typed regsvr32 olch2x8.ocx
I received a message that it worked. I then started Encore Pro and my reports came up with no errors.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.

Well done, Mate. I just got back from a C#/.NET course in Toronto, and the instructor suggested your approach. He noted that probably some or another program that was installed on the computer was probably blocking the component registration, but that for a novice user who was uncomfortable with the Registry, reinstalling Windows, then EncorePro, then whatever other apps might be a better solution. Your approach seems simpler and more elegant to me.regsvr32 olch2x8.ocx
Now on to rewriting MyEncore to work for BiPAP. Shall we call it MySecondEncore, or do you have a snappier name?

This tip might be too late for anyone to use, and does not pertain to all problems that say "Encore Pro Cannot instantiate control .....etc". But This fixed my problem which happened after I did my monthly hard disk clean up. I used a registry cleaner (which I have used faithfully for over 6 yrs with no problems) . I got the message that Encore pro couldn't instantiate control. and it mentioned the pertinant "CLSID's" (about 6) that were missing. Fortunately I made a backup of the registry beforehand, so just had to undo the repair. Hope this helps someone out.......... Chuck
